All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Ok ,here is the scripture:
2 Corinthians 6:14-15
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accordhas Christ with belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever

If we have a friend or someone in our lives who is an unbeliever are we not to sit with them ? Is there not the same hope for them as there is for us and how are we to show the light of Jesus if we keeo them out of our lives without having them think we think we are better than them? Would that not deter them from wanting what we have in Christ?

My personal findings have been that when I am with SOME non believers, they shrink away when I mention anything about Christ, Church or anything that deals in the Holy Spirit etc. I try and make light of the situation and explain to them my life has turned around since knowing Jesus and give them some examples. Now the bible does say "I will make you fishers of men" Mark 1:16-20 which means finding non believers and discussing with them that Jesus is our savour. Lucifer is always present edging us to listen to our friends who then spout off about the cruelness in the world and why does my God (if there is one) allow it. While they are talking to me I am constantly reading the body language and eye signals that help me to identify how far I can push their buttons. Sometimes it can become a heated debate, but at least I’ve got them talking about it.

Maybe this is not the answer you were looking for, but there are plenty in the bible.  Blessings to you.

We need You Lord, more than the next breath we take. If everything were gone tomorrow, You are enough. The "stuff" we obtain is nothing. The relationships we build, are meaningless, if we don't know You. Without You we are empty. You are the giver of Life, fill the empty place in our souls and build our lives according to Your will, and to fulfill Your purpose. We praise Your Holy name, You alone are God and You are enough! Amen.

Hey Dear Nancy, i take this verse as meaning firstly marriage: if a person is saved and is led by the Holy Spirit I cannot think they would deliberately choose to marry a non believer, of course there are verses referring to marriages between non believers and believers but I believe these refer to when one becomes saved whilst already married or perhaps one member of the marriage drifts away from the Lord. But if you are making the decision as a child of God, then it makes obvious sense to marry a fellow believer otherwise all manner of problems could occur.

To be yoked is to be 'joined together securely', so this verse can also be applied to friendships, as you say, of course we can be friends with non believers and witness to them, and through us they may come to know Jesus, but the verse suggest not to become, for eg: bestest friends with a non believer as surely the differences in belief and ways of life would be too far apart., also could lead us into being tempted into the wrong path.

Hope I made sense.

Lucy I think you made perfect sense - and made a couple of excellent points concerning marriage as well as intimate friendships. Brilliant sister.

Nancy in some translation it is, not have inappropriate relationships w/ unbelievers.  We are going to be around unbelievers, In the case of Solomom we can see why God told him not to have wives,etc.,w/ women who believed in different "gods."  He thought himself to be wiser then God, so he disobeyed God and, influenced the Jewish beliefs.  We have to share Jesus w/ unbelievers, so we must be around them(i know goes w/o saying)  It is when we allow them to influence us, as opposed to the other way around.  That is when we get in trouble.

think Chris has pretty much said. Being yoked doesn't only refer to marriage. It refers to any situation you find yourself taking on burdens in. And believe when you take on the burden of a sinful nature you very quickly can fall into the sin.
yes. I agree but what if you keep in the light. If you stay focused on the Lord. Whatvif you draw from his strength and not lose sight

If we do that the Lords light will shine. The unbeliever will be drawen.

If we keep our focus if we keep in the light.  If small word with huge meaning

Yhe lord makes us stronger as we mature does'nt He?
Our natural nature cannot be trusted but the nature he strengthens in us that is more like Jesus Can be trusted. The work HE does in us CAN be trustedf. :)
Oh never mind. Just saw that inappropiate word
huh what is that
? What is what???
