Sathish,

There is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and then there is the manifested presence of the Holy Spirit. When we come together for worship we are seeking to glorify the Lord and to experience His presence moving amongst us and in us. The calling on the Holy Spirit is also an act of surrender whereas we invite Him to come, take control, have His way in our midst.

Thanks LT but to be more precise do we need to invite the holy spirit all the time ??

As an act of submission, reverence and a reminder of our dependence on Him ... it is a good idea. In the prayer I pray before I preach I acknowledge that He is here and then ask Him to anoint us (fill us) and to open our eyes and ears, and to conform us to His way.

yeah that's good , but my pastor here invites the holy spirit during the time worship , invites him again during the time of communion ... invites him again during the time of prayer .. but I have always felt that why to invite he resides in all our hearts ... its a free gift and the price has been paid

I may view inviting Him at every aspect of a service each time a bit excessive, but that does not make it wrong. One of the key points to remember is that though the Holy Spirit indwells us we invite Him to take charge of the service, to work in our lives corporately, to move in our midst in power. Repeating something is not bad in of itself as long as the true purpose is not lost and it just becomes a thing we do. In what we call the Lord's Prayer we see that we are to ask the Lord to "give us this day our daily bread" and yet we also know that God has promised to provide for us and yet we are taught to ask daily, as well to lead us not into temptation, etc ...

Again, I think it is an act of submission asking the Holy Spirit to come and take control of the service, reverence in that we remember He is God and we are the created, and dependence for without Him the church would be without power from on high.

Lord Bless,

LT

Amen

The Bible says where two or three are gathered, He will be there also.  That doesn't mean that He's not there when we're not gathered but there can be a stronger outpouring when we do gather.  And so we invite Him to be there in force, strong.  We ask, keep on asking, seek, keep on seeking, knock, keep on knocking.  Even if He is there, we still ask so to keep Him near and dear to our own hearts, to open ourselves up to wanting Him more.

Seek, I think this verse if very much misquoted & taken out of context but that's for another discussion. :)

yeah John I agree to to ur point , that's what my ideology about this topic is .

At church, I pray that the Spirit would convict people, touch those that are re-born, touch those lost & that the speakers words would be from the Spirit & the flesh be moved aside. 1 Thess 5:19 NIV says Do not put out the Spirit's fire. So, obviously His fire can be suppressed. I don't think anything is wrong with praying for the Spirit to move among God's people. There are some who may have suppressed it & the prayer may stir up that fire in those who have put that fire out. I also pray that His Shekinah Glory would fill His house revealing His glory & grace.
