It depends on the context of the particular verse. Some cases it means terror, a literal fear of God. In some cases it refers to awe for God, a reverence. For the believer there need be no fear based on Romans 8:1 and 1 John 4:18

Romans 8:1: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. (NIV)

1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. (NIV)

There are no stupid questions. We learn by asking questions and seeking answers.

Thank you LT for explaining this, I was wondering that too! God Bless You!!
Jeremiah 32:39 I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them.
Psalm 86:11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

Dear Sandra:) What I believe in my heart about the fear of God is when you get to the point in your life where you agree with the word of God on everything, you have it in your spirit that what God says is to be true above all, His Word is above anything else. The fear of God is when you want to do it His way and the way He says it to be. You are united with God because you love Him and He loves you.

The bible is full of love stories from God to us. To fear Him means to agree with Him, He says He loves you, He sent Jesus to die for you, to forgive you of all your sins, His blood was shed for you, He forgives all your sins and remembers them no more, He heals all your diseases. You are righteous because Jesus paid the price for you. The fear of God is to agree with Him. God says we are all sinners and need a Savior, we become new creation when we receive Jesus in our hearts, all things become new, the old has passed away. When you accept Christ in your heart, God calls you righteous, believe Him, this is the beginning of the fear of God, this is what wisdom all about, be united with Him on what He says about you and everything that concerns you. If you sinned in any way, ask God to forgive you and go on accepting His love and His forgiveness, this is to me what it means the fear of God. Agree with God that you have an enemy and his name is Satan and all he wants from you is to destroy you, hurt you and kill everything that is beautiful in you and in your family, agree with God that His power is greater than any power and His name is mightier and more excellent name than any name, the name of Jesus.
