All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

As a Catholic Christian I am often hurt by the contempt with which the Church is written about here at All About God. net.  And yet I know that many Christians would not be able to answer even basic questions about the Biblical-based teaching and practice of the Holy Catholic Church.  So, here is a quiz that I found at Catholic Bible 101.  Can you pass this quiz without looking up the answers before hand?  And if not, then could we all agree to get to know Catholic Christianity before we condemn Catholic Christians?

Hi Carla,
I’ve only just seen this reply of yours...
I did not realize that this was an old post. Sorry.
Don't worry about what I said then. I don’t blame you for leaving the discussions. I am thinking of doing the same myself....
Have a great week!
Helen
Sharon,

We love you and appreciate you. If we did not we would not care, but we do care about you and yours, so we are willing to even seemed judgmental and ugly to a world that yells out " tolerance is the way of the walk."

I pray you know we mean no harm to you and take no pleasure in being offensive to you. We simply want to love you with the truth.

That is all, your brother in Christ. DV
Dear Sharon,

I echo David's words here. We can't compromise the truth for the sake of tolerance. I just ordered a great book which I recommend to you 'No Believer left behind' by Don Z. Weldon. I am in the process of reading it.

Much Love in Christ,

Doctrine is extremely importand.

2 Timothy 2:15 (New International Version)
5 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

1 Peter 3:15 (New International Version)
15 ... Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

Matthew 16:12 (New King James Version)
12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees

Act 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

1Ti 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

1Ti 1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

1Ti 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

1Ti 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Titus 1:9 (New King James Version)
9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

2Jn 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

Rev 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam,
Rev 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

2 Timothy 2
14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his,"[a] and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."
Amen David.. Doctrine...combined with a personal encounter with the Living Christ.. I found this video today...

Carla,

Great video! And I agree 100%

Sharon.
David,

Interesting video. Very bad time for the church. But, the Holy Spirit brought great good out of what was arguably the most evil time in Church history.

Sharon.
I have watched the EWTN network on tv, The prayer of the rosary, discussions with priests and nuns, watched childrens shows, the popes address in Rome not too long ago and I was blessed! I see that some traditions passed down can be Life affirming to faith and love for Jesus. I see genuine love and devotion for our savior and for the church and the sacraments that encourage focus on spiritual things. I was never raised in the catholic faith but in the viewing and hearing things pertaining to the Catholic faith I can see a place where faith and a love for the savior CAN grow. There was a program of TBN that I happened on during ressurection time. It was Tatiana and her sister and friend singing the stations of the cross. It was the most beautiful, moving, worship experience I have ever had, and it was a Catholic service. May God continue to bring all who have called to our Jesus to unity of the faith that exalts Him in all the earth. And tear down the walls of division that keep us seperated that the world would see the love we have for one another and give glory to God.
Terrie McNair,

EWTN is fabulous! That entire network was begun by one little nun, Mother Angelica! She is a powerful force for good!

And that you for saying something nice about Catholic Christians!

Sharon.
I just want to say, Sharon, that I have read with much interest these discussions back and forth. I am in such awe of peoples ability to formulate and prepare such grounded and thorough reason by scripture and the compassion I see in everyone here who has responded to this discussion. I am not that eloquent or able. I will watch with continued interest and know that I am learning alot on both sides. That is my weakness, to be able to logically, systematicly (sorry...spelling off)explain answers to some complicated questions about certain questions of faith. I have such respect and love in Christ for you all! I just started the book Testimony of Hope by Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan. I was drawn to it because of the depth of this man's LIVING faith and love under such horrendous circumstances. This catholic priest has much to offer to anyone who wants to walk closer to Jesus by his words and testimony and his life of sacrifice and self denial that shows a true love for his Savior. In the end may we all come to the unity of faith that glorifies Jesus as the Only Way, Truth and Life. Blessings to you all!!!!! terrie
