hi all,

i'd love to hear any comments you may have to share about:

-the importance of memorizing scripture

-any particular time when your memorized scripture has come in handy, or

-what verses you have memorized, and why

thank you,

thanks for the encouragement and ideas everyone, since i posted this a while ago i have gotten to experience some of the blessings some of you have shared, and reading through these is great encouragement to continue to commit scripture to memory. i pray the Word of God dwells richly in all of us

Scripture is extremely important...  It's our food.  Memorizing scripture has been helpful so many times when I'm speaking to a fellow believer and they are discouraged or upset... I don't have to pull my bible out if I already know it.

Proverbs 3:5,6 is one of my favourites... Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not lean on your own understandings.  In all your ways acknowledge him (Submit to) and He will direct your paths.

Romans 8:28 God works all things together for the good of those that love God and are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[k] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 41:10...Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Like Grazer I have seen Christians speak bible verses and it causes problems..... usually when they are spoken to people who are hostile to God...  I've also seen Christians get hurt by verses spoken.  However, I disagree that it is not beneficial to memorize verses...  It's always beneficial for us to have verses on the tip of our tongue.  We just need to learn when to hold our tongues and when to speak.   Praise God for the discernment He gives us and the wisdom.

I've just started a new thing... I put bible verses in a glass vase on my desk...and personalized them.  Every day I pull one out to remind myself of God's goodness and His promises...

For example.. It looks like this:

"I will give you peace Carla, at all times and in every situation."  Thessalonians 3:16

I also gave one to a friend of mine as a gift.. It blessed her very much..

Blessings, Carla

thanks Carla, i love that idea of personalizing bible verses
