All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

1 Corinthians 8:1 King James Version (KJV)
8 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

1 Corinthians 8:1 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

8 But of these things that be sacrificed to idols, we know, for all we have knowing. But knowing bloweth, charity edifieth [Soothly science, or knowing, in-bloweth with pride, charity edifieth].

Wycliffe Bible (WYC) 2001 by Terence P. Noble

These are my thoughts.
We should act in love with using our knowledge and not use knowledge without love.

1 Corinthians 8:2 King James Version (KJV)

And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

1 Corinthians 8:2 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

But if any man guesseth [Forsooth if any man guess, or deem], that he knoweth any thing, he hath not yet known how it behooveth him to know.

These are my thoughts.

We cant truly claim anything because it is all the Lord’s.

Some one obviously doesn't know, or understands anything about the new creation. But again the natural man receiveth not  the things of the spirit of  God, for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them for they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (KJV)
14  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

Better yet read the chapter in entirety.

1 Corinthians 8:3 King James Version (KJV)

But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

1 Corinthians 8:3 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

And if any man loveth God, this is known of him.

If we live by our love for the Lord, He will know it.

1 Corinthians 8:3 King James Version (KJV)
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

1 Corinthians 8:3 Wycliffe Bible (WYC)

3 And if any man loveth God, this is known of him.

These are my thoughts.
We can only love God by receiving Christ and by Christ God knows us personally, He can have a fellowship with us that we need.

1 Corinthians 8:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

1 Corinthians 8:5 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

5 For even if there are so-called “gods,” either in heaven or on earth — as in fact there are “gods” and “lords” galore —

This world may serve many different thins but we know who God truly is as Christians.

1 Corinthians 8:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

1 Corinthians 8:5 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

These are my thoughts.
This world makes gods and serves many things but only the Lord is worth serving and gives life.

1 Corinthians 8:7 King James Version (KJV)

Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

1 Corinthians 8:7 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

But not everyone has this knowledge. Moreover, some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat food which has been sacrificed to them, they think of it as really affected by the idol; and their consciences, being weak, are thus defiled.

These are my thoughts.

Some people are weaker because of their past knowledge, we should not be a stumbling block to these.

We should try to live in a way where we uplift each other and avoid things that could weaken other believers.

1 Corinthians 8:8 King James Version (KJV)

But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

1 Corinthians 8:8 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

Now food will not improve our relationship with God — we will be neither poorer if we abstain nor richer if we eat.

These are my thoughts.

Food is always physical. While fasting can draw us closer to God, he is saying eating is meant to physical and not a spiritual act.

1 Corinthians 8:9 King James Version (KJV)

But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

1 Corinthians 8:9 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

However watch out that your mastery of the situation does not become a stumbling block to the weak.

These are my thoughts.

We should not let our freedom in Christ cause those who that are burdened down by rules to slip away or be confused.

1 Corinthians 8:10 King James Version (KJV)

10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

1 Corinthians 8:10 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

10 For if others see you, who possess knowledge, eating in the temple of an idol, might they not, since their conscience is weak, be encouraged to the point of eating food sacrificed to idols?

These are my thoughts.

We should be encouragements to other believers rather then be someone who makes them weak.

1 Corinthians 8:11 King James Version (KJV)
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

1 Corinthians 8:11 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

11 Thus by your “knowledge” this weak person is destroyed, this brother for whom the Messiah died;

These are my thoughts.
Lets not let what we know cause us to bring others down but let it be used to bring them to the cross.
