A popular bumper sticker said, "Prayer changes things" But does it really? Though the Bible reminds us to "pray continually"(1 Thess. 5:17), faithfully (Rom. 12:12) and "on all occassions" what exactly should we be praying for?

The God who Sees –

And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have also here looked after him that seeth me? Genesis 16:13

God sees you as much as if there were nobody else in the world for God to look at.

The infinite mind of God is able to grasp a million objects as once, and yet to focus as much as one as if there were nothing else but that one ... as much, as entirely, as absolutely without division of sight as if you were the only being Gods hands has ever made.

Can you grasp that?

God sees you with the whole of God’s sight – YOU! You are the particular object of the Lords attention at this very moment.
AS YOU PRAY TODAY. Contemplate the thought that God sees you entirely, constantly and completely.
 Know that because the Lord sees you, God also knows your every need even before you speak it.
 Pray to see as God sees, to focus in the things that are important to the Lord.

Whoever cannot be alone should beware of community. Such people will only do harm to themselves and to the community. Alone you stood before God when God called you. Alone you had to obey God’s voice. Alone you had to take up your cross, struggle, and pray and alone you will die and give an account to God. You cannot avoid yourself, for it is precisely God who has singled you out. If you do not want to be alone, you are rejecting Christ’s call to you, and you can have no part in the community of those who are called…

But the reverse is also true. Whoever cannot stand being in community should beware of being alone. You are called into the community of faith; the call was not meant for you alone. You carry your cross, you struggle, and you pray in the community of faith, the community of those who are called. You are not alone even when you die, and on the day of judgment you will be only one member of the great community of faith of Jesus Christ…

Whoever cannot be alone should beware of community. Whoever cannot stand being in community should beware of being alone.

Biblical Wisdom

For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.Romans 12:4-5

Questions to Ponder

  • Why do so many people in our society seem to fear being alone?
  • Why do so many churches seem to be mere aggregates of individuals rather than true communities of faith?
  • In what ways can a disciple establish a healthy balance between aloneness and community?

Psalm Fragment

Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them. Psalm 111:1-2

Journal Reflections

  • Write about times when you have intentionally been alone. How did it make you feel? What did you do? Did your aloneness have any impact on how you felt when you were with others again?
  • Write about your experience in community. Do you feel an integral part of your community? Do you feel like you have a good balance between time in community and time alone?

Intercessions

If you know anyone who seems lonely, pray that they might discover true community. If you know anyone who seems afraid to be alone with themselves, pray that they might discover the joy of solitude, of being alone with God.

Prayer for Today

O Lord, when I am too much alone, help me seek community. When I am too dependent on the community, help me to set aside time to be alone.

Thank you for this devotional! It is my prayer that, as I turn to The Word tonight, I will focus on Jesus as if He be the One and Only Being in my world and in my knowing! In His holy name, I ask this, Amen!

With love and prayers for my brothers and sisters here in All About God,

John 14:26 - "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

Jesus called the Holy Spirit "the Comforter." Whenever peace enters your heart in the midst of grief, whenever joy enters your heart in the midst of a trial, whenever you see evidence of His life in yours, you can be sure the Holy Spirit is flowing through your life. Can He forget you? Never. The seal of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, is on your life if you are His child. Whenever you pass through a room or walk through a crowd, His oil of gladness sends a sweet aroma of Christ through the air!

When you don't feel like praying, that's when you need to. You need to pray until you do feel like praying. You see, you're not praying by yourself. The Spirit is praying through you and for you, helping to present your petitions to the Father -- petitions that perhaps you yourself are not even capable of expressing. Do not approach God with your hands full of the brass of your emotions. Rather, approach Him with hands and heart full of the sweet incense of His worth. Just keep praying.

Romans 8:26 - "Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

GENESIS 1:28! The Lord said; And God blessed them and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that move th upon the earth! All the underline word here, are our daily devotional guide word. And we all need them

God had you in mind before you were even born! He planned you, he loved the thought of you before you were born, he made you exactly the way he imagined you in his love. And he pledges himself in these verses to carry you every day of your life until you die and he takes you back again. A passage worth memorizing—live as if this were true, trust as if this were true. (It is!)

When we go through difficulties, it's easy to lose sight of God's love. It's precisely within these situations that God reveals his heart. He is not an unconcerned bystander. No, he is right there with us in whatever difficulties we face. He has already ransomed us, and he will not allow anything to overcome us. How can it, if he is with us and we are clinging to him? Is God overcome by anything? As long as we stay connected to him, he will take us safely through every trouble, any flood or fire that threatens us.

Thank you LORD for directing my steps. I know that with YOU all things are possible. Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do. All praise belongs to YOU.
