Ramona,
What a beautiful life God has blessed you with. I feel such serenity and peace when I read your profile. I am so encouraged by hearing of people all over the world loving and being loved by the same God I am loving and being loved by in my little spot in the world. There is only one God, one Spirit, and one Savior and He has drawn us near to Him. I share the same interest as you as I love to read and study His Word.
In Christ we are loved,

We can't; God can.

The forgetful servant
By Jon Walker

"All of you, serve each other in humility, for God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5 NLT)

Serving others requires forgetfulness on your part: You need to forget your own needs.

You cannot be self-centered and serve the real needs of another person. "Don't be selfish …," Paul says in Philippians 2:3, "Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself." (NLT)

Jesus gave his disciples an example of this humility when he stooped to wash their feet: "So during the meal Jesus stood up and took off his outer clothing. Taking a towel, he wrapped it around his waist. Then he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him." (John 13:4-5 NCV)

Foot-washing was customary back then (not just for pedicures!) because people wore sandals or walked barefoot on dusty roads. Usually a host had his servants do the dirty chore, but Jesus saved this service for himself, "taking the very nature of a servant …." (Philippians 2:7 NIV)

It is interesting to note that the disciples hadn't already taken care of the dirty feet, not even slipping into a self-service scrub. Could it be they considered this task beneath their dignity?

But it wasn't beneath Jesus.

He placed his disciples' needs above his own – even as he approached his darkest hour.

What does this mean?

The forgetful servant – The life of a servant requires a kind of forgetfulness, the ability to forget our own needs in the process of tending to someone else's. "We should please others. If we do what helps them, we will build them up in the Lord. For even Christ didn't please himself." (Romans 15:2-3 NLT) Look to the needs of others, and trust God to supply your own needs. (Philippians 4:19)
Live well for others – "We want to live well," Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:24, "but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well." (MSG) Everyone we serve is someone important to serve.
Do what Jesus does – "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet." (John 13:14 NIV) How would this change your marriage (or some other family), if you began to serve another person before you considered your own needs?

That's My King

The late Dr. S.M. Lockeridge, a preacher from San Diego, California
who said these words in a sermon in Detroit in 1976

********************************************

My King was born King. The Bible says He's a Seven Way King. He's the King of the Jews - that's an Ethnic King. He's the King of Israel - that's a National King. He's the King of righteousness. He's the King of the ages. He's the King of Heaven. He's the King of glory. He's the King of kings and He is the Lord of lords. Now that's my King.

Well, I wonder if you know Him. Do you know Him? Don't try to mislead me. Do you know my King? David said the Heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork. My King is the only one of whom there are no means of measure that can define His limitless love. No far seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of the shore of His supplies. No barriers can hinder Him from pouring out His blessing. He's enduringly strong. He's entirely sincere. He's eternally steadfast. He's immortally graceful. He's imperially powerful. He's impartially merciful. That's my King.

He's God's Son. He's the sinner's saviour. He's the centrepiece of civilization. He stands alone in Himself. He's honest. He's unique. He's unparalleled. He's unprecedented. He's supreme. He's pre-eminent. He's the grandest idea in literature. He's the highest personality in philosophy. He's the supreme problem in higher criticism. He's the fundamental doctrine of historic theology. He's the carnal necessity of spiritual religion. That's my King.

He's the miracle of the age. He's the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him. He's the only one able to supply all our needs simultaneously. He supplies strength for the weak. He's available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He's the Almighty God who guides and keeps all his people. He heals the sick. He cleanses the lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharged debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent and He beautifies the meek. That's my King.

Do you know Him? Well, my King is a King of knowledge. He's the wellspring of wisdom. He's the doorway of deliverance. He's the pathway of peace. He's the roadway of righteousness. He's the highway of holiness. He's the gateway of glory. He's the master of the mighty. He's the captain of the conquerors. He's the head of the heroes. He's the leader of the legislatures. He's the overseer of the overcomers. He's the governor of governors. He's the prince of princes. He's the King of kings and He's the Lord of lords. That's my King.

His office is manifold. His promise is sure. His light is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His Word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. I wish I could describe Him to you . . .but He's indescribable. He's indescribable. That's my King.

He's incomprehensible. He's invincible. He's irresistible. I'm coming to tell you this, that the heavens of heavens can't contain Him, let alone some man explain Him. You can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your hands. You can't outlive Him and you can't live without Him. The Pharisees couldn't stand Him, but they found out they couldn't stop Him. Pilate couldn't find any fault in Him. The witnesses couldn't get their testimonies to agree about Him. Herod couldn't kill Him. Death couldn't handle Him and the grave couldn't hold Him. That's my King.

He always has been and He always will be. I'm talking about the fact that He had no predecessor and He'll have no successor. There's nobody before Him and there'll be nobody after Him. You can't impeach Him and He's not going to resign. That's my King! That's my King!

Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Well, all the power belongs to my King. We're around here talking about black power and white power and green power, but in the end all that matters is God's power. Thine is the power. Yeah. And the glory. We try to get prestige and honour and glory for ourselves, but the glory is all His. Yes. Thine is the Kingdom and the power and glory, forever and ever and ever and ever. How long is that? And ever and ever and ever and ever. And when you get through with all of the 'forever's, then . . .Amen.

(Just for our English readers:
I told Ramona it is nice meeting another South African here on this wonderful site with the best internet family. And that we at church have a fishnet fasting programme where we have 7 groups who fast every other day for our countries, churches, rulers etc. For we need to be free fom the oppression of the enemy, for in Mark 9:29 these kind cannot be driven out execpt by fasting and prayer. So in obedience we fast and pray and seek His face. For I believe God has great plans for us.)

I would like to share something with my friends and members. My daughter, Mari, married to a pastor was having a struggle with negativity and she started a journal.

She is an extremely sensitive and loving person but we all go through our little valleys and ditches... and she was going through a phase where she was feeling "down". This is when she decided to start a journal and I take the liberty of sharing a piece which she e-mailed me. (She knew that I was praying a lot for her and I think that she wanted to comfort me and to put my mind at rest).

Actually she is a very special person as she was a gift from God to me. My son, Benjamin, was fifteen years old when she was born! After trying to have a baby for many years (and after one miscarriage of 6 months) doctors )gynaechologists advised me to have a hysterectomy. I was adamant that I could and would (by God's grace) bear a child again. I had several operations and treatment (fibroids removed) and many other little niggly things which I do not want to talk about.

One day I was feeling ill and I was forced to pay a visit to my house doctor. He did some tests but could not see anything really seriously wrong. So, in his wisdom, he also did a pregnancy test. (At that time I was cynical and did not think that it was possible). I think I had given up hope. Dr Radford asked me to come back after two days to see him.

When I went into his examination room he was smiling from ear to ear. He walked up to me and hugged me and kissed me on the cheek: "You are pregnant!" he cried out. I was stunned. My husband was a lecturer (professor) at a University and Doctor Radford could not contain himself. He called the University and asked that my husband contact him immediately. My husband, needless to say, was scared out of his wits as he imagined all kinds of ill-fated news about his wife. Instead, our doctor was almost in tears and laughing when he got my husband's call: "Congratulations, Daddy!"he said loudly with such a smile on his face. "Your wife would like to say something to you too" and he gave the 'phone to me: I was in tears and when I spoke to my husband, he was also crying on the other side! We were overjoyed and could not praise God loudly enough! God sometimes takes a long time to answer prayers but when he gave us a premature baby girl (she was born at 6 and 1/2 months and weighed 3 lbs) we knew that she was special.

She just lived to serve the Lord since she was tiny. She was sensitive and loving and even when she was at primary school she already decided she wanted to become a minister. My son just loved his darling little sister (who only started walking at 18 months! But she was so cute and so clever, according to her brother. When she told him (he had then already qualified as a medical doctor) that she wanted to go into the ministry he advised her to become a teacher ... because there she could be a Fisher of men! So, she became a teacher and had the privilege of being taught Education under her father's wing! When she was born, I joked and said that because, like Hannah of the Bible, I had begged God to give me a child, she would be named Samuelina... But instead we called her Mari.

Needless to say, I thank the Lord that she is a devout child of His and I dedicated her life to Him! But life is not easy at times and hence my story which I started begins:

I want to share a portion of my little "Samuelina's" journal with you:

Gratitude: the key that unlocks the door

"You simply will not be the same person two months from now after CONSCIOUSLY giving thanks each day." Sarah Ban Breathnach

The media successfully achieves in sketching a life in South Africa that is dark and evil. When we open the newspaper or turn on the radio and television news, it is totally void of any positivism and light.

At one stage in my life, nothing seemed to make any sense. It was as if I always ended up clueless and empty-hearted. I felt so unfitted for the world in which I had to live and yet it seemed as if there was nothing I could do to feel less spasmodic and ungrounded. Every day was a constant battle against negativity. It felt as if I was about to be engulfed by a tsunami of cynicism and pessimism that was consuming the world around me.

Daily I struggled with a spirit of ingratitude. It was as if everything around me was, setting snares of worry and fear which were trapping me, making me feel totally incapacitated. I felt intimidated and unequipped to handle even the slightest challenge that came my way. I felt emotionally and spiritually exhausted and this manifested itself in the form of chronic physical illnesses.

I had a deep conviction that I had to do something to counteract this dark, cynical spirit that was so prevalent in my soul.

One day I just grabbed one of the children's exercise books and in desperation just spilled out all the negative thoughts and emotions onto the pages. Initially I was shocked at all the complaints that just streamed out, like a gushing waterfall. I however decided not to analyse or judge any of these cogitations. I simply put my hand to paper and scribbled down everything that was depleting me emotionally.

I continued this process daily until I started getting nauseous at the sound of my constant nagging and whining. Then I tried something new, I wrote down a few basic things that I was grateful for: my health, my loving, patient companion and friend, my two beautiful, talented children, my wonderfully generous and supportive parents, my first cup of rooibos espresso in the morning.

The result was astounding: my level of anxiety diminished and my restless, fearful spirit subsided. I had this overwhelming realisation that I had always been surrounded by an abundance of blessings in my life but have never made an effort to CONSCIOUSLY become aware of them, let alone celebrate them! That realisation was a turning point in my life. I knew that it would always be easy to surrender to pessimism, but I also realised, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it was possible to pro-actively counter-act this negativity.

Gratitude is the antipode for caustic, pessimistic emotions.
Sarah Ban Breathnach states: "The magic seed of contentment are planted deep within us."

Sometimes we have to search intensely to find happiness that we can embrace, gratitude that that is truly authentic, but it is well worth the effort.

By acknowledging the blessings that already exist in our lives, we focus on abundance. This, in turn, helps us to rediscover the joy of living!

My "griping" notes have been reborn into a gratitude journal- a tool which has helped me to realize that optimism can truly be learned. Serenity and contentment are possible in our anxiety-drenched society, if an inner shift is consciously made in our hearts and minds.

I have found gratitude to be the key that unlocks the gate leading to the secret garden of authentic happiness.

Now, at this present time, I have been going through negativity because of the situation in South Africa and I have been weeping to see how the foreigners are being persecuted (little babies and tiny toddlers, mothers, men and young boys and girls) destitute. They are being robbed, killed, beaten and despised.

I read this portion of Mari's journal and I feel slightly uplifted...

Please join me in praying for our foreign neighbours (Simbabweans).

I PRAY THAT GOD WILL SOFTEN THE HEARTS OF THE AFRICAN PEOPLE.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL

For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2, NIV)

If the apostle Paul ever made a New Year’s resolution, I suspect it was similar to the one made here, where he resolved to know nothing but Christ and him crucified.

Paul’s message was radically simple: Salvation is in Christ alone. That means it’s not Christ plus your good behavior, not Christ plus the years you taught a Bible study, not Christ plus your tithe, not Christ plus the church you attend.

It’s not Christ plus the number of verses you memorize, not Christ plus your title in the church, not Christ plus wisdom from the latest Christian seminar, not Christ plus a desert fast – or even a dessert fast!

It’s not Christ plus a good driving record, not Christ plus well-behaved children, not Christ plus your newly shined shoes, not Christ plus the right job, not Christ plus the right spouse, not Christ plus a college education, not Christ plus the latest technology.

It’s simply Christ. Christ plus nothing. That’s our message in this still-new millennium, and it’s a message that is as right throughout 2008 as it will be in 2999. May your New Year’s resolution be nothing but Christ and him crucified.

What does this mean?

JESUS + 0 = SALVATION

Check your beliefs – Is there something you think you need to do or achieve to be fully accepted by God? Are you adding to that Scripture, changing it to say, "I resolve to know nothing except Jesus and …?"

Pray through this verse – "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:2, NIV) Ask God to teach you this year to know nothing but Christ and Him crucified.

Hello Ramona!
Thank you for all your loving messages! You are such a loving and thoughtful woman of God! You are very encouraging and inspiring. that touches my heart that you are soo caring for South Africa and the world like it is. I have 2 small children, and I pray every day that the Lord will protect them from the world and its lies, deception, anger, crime, and war. Its scary raising children up these days. I dont mean to be negative, but I just am. I cant belive that you cant say "God" in alot of schools, or talk about Jesus.Abortions are still legal, and Gay marriage is becoming legal in alot of states. It saddens me. Its alot different now a days from when I was growing up too. Keep me and my children in prayer, my sister. I need all the strength I can get as a mother in this world. Thank you!!!!
God Bless you always,

Hello Ramona,and welcome!
How are you?

This is Paige, another moderator here on TheNet, and Im very blessed to have you join our
community of believers, as we grow in the love and wisdom of our Lord . Its soo neat to meet new friends here from all around the world .
You will find TheNet a safe place to get to know other believers and share your love and life in Christ.

I really like it here because its a great online source of Christian information, and fellowship. When I find it hard to get out of the house or hard to get to church, I get online and get "filled" with His word and all the other believers and thier prayers. Its soo good to know that when Im hurting there are others that are too and in need of the same love and support I do from the Lord.
Praise God for His work on the Cross!!! We are all one body now and can work together to heal and help other members.

Also, Id like to invite you to come over and visit us in the Womens Group where women from all ages and all walks of life come to encourage and be encouraged to help, and be helped, to share thier wisdom with other women , and get prayer that we all need as women to continue in our faith and the path God has set before us all.

I hope to "see" you often and I would love to get to know you more as we walk this faith.
Im your friend, and if I can help or answer any questions for you, Im here.
