WHILE I AM WAITING

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the LORD.”
(PSALM 27:14 KJV)

You might be very surprised to know that the word, wait in the above verse means something very different from our English word , wait.

When we think of waiting, we think of some one waiting for a bus, or waiting for to be seated at a restaurant, or even waiting for a red light to change. When we wait we are inactive.

But if you check out the Hebrew word for wait; qavah (kaw-vaw') it is more of an action word.

We discover that are some things we should be doing as we wait upon the LORD.

Let me point out some aspects of the Hebrew word qavah that will give us a better understanding of what waiting on the LORD is all about.

1. While we are waiting we should bind ourselves together with the Lord.
Binding ourselves to the LORD by twisting together is how wait is described in this word in the Hebrew language.

A. Psalm 130:5 (NASV) says, “I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.”

Reading and meditating on the Word Of God (the Bible) will bind us together to the LORD.

May those who fear You see me and be glad, Because I wait for Your word.' ( Psalm 119:74 )

B. “I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.”( Psalm 40:1 )
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication(prayer request) with thanksgiving (praise) let your requests be made known to God.” ( Phil. 4:6-7 )

Prayer, petitions, and thanksgiving will bind us to the LORD while we wait.

2. While we wait let us have a hopeful expectation by being on the lookout for for the LORD.
Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.” ( Psalm 27:14 )

“Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.” ( Psalm 33:20 )

There is an element of faith, hope, and expectation that we need to have as we wait. This grows out of our binding ourselves to the LORD in prayer and the Word.

3. While we wait we should patiently tarry on the Lord.

“Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.” ( Psalm 37:7 )

“I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.”( Psalm 40:1 )
“My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.” ( Psalm 62:5 )

Waiting upon the LORD can be a awesome time for coming to know the LORD. We are forever changed when we bind ourselves to him with prayer and worship, by being in the Word, by having a hopeful expectation, and by patient waiting on God.

Prayer
Father God teach us about waiting upon you. We bind ourselves to you with our prayers, with our praise, and worship. Thank you also for you Word that you have given to us that also works to bind us to you while we are waiting.. “ All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” ( 2 Timothy 3:16 )
Father help us to hide your Word in our hearts, it is then we wil have faith and a hopeful expectation of your mighty power working in our lives. We pray these thing in Jesus name, amen.
