Walking In The Spirit (Holy Spirit) Part 2

The Bible says that God created man in His image. But what does that mean exactly? Did Adam and Eve look like God? The answer is yes - but not in their physical characteristics, such as hair, eye colour, nose shape. Adam and Eve were created as spiritual beings with characteristics like their Father, God. After they were created, God breathed into them and they became living beings.
The Hebrew word for 'breath' is the same word for 'Spirit.' God is spirit. So God brought them to life with His own breath, His own Spirit.

You are firstly, a spiritual being. You were made like God so that you could enjoy a relationship with Him. For intimacy with Him, you had to be like Him - a spiritual being. Your spirit is the part of you that communes with God and will live forever.

Though in essence you are a spiritual being, God gave you a soul too. Jesus said to love God with (amoung other things) "all your soul."
Your soul can be defined as your mind - what you think, your emotions - what you feel, and your will - what you choose to do.
Through your soul, you relate to people and the world around you.

Because your soul is where you make your choices, this is the part of your being that must be continually brought under the leadership of the Lord. What you think, feel or choose to do, can either draw you closer to God, or move you further away from Him. Thus the soul is the primary battlefield as you learn to walk in the Spirit.

Though people tend to think of themselves based on what they look like, the physical part of their being is the least of what makes them "them." In reality, our bodies are only temporary housing. It is important, however, that as a Christian you use your body to honour God. This means that you choose to live a holy and respectable life, walking by the leading of the Spirit, not by the leading of your body or soul.

The Bible is clear that one day we will put aside our earthly body for a heavenly body.
