All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

“And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” (1Kg18:41)

Sound is an impression made on the organ of hearing. When your ear does not feel that impression, it means deafness. Sound had been used for many things in the past and it is still in use till now. Sound has different effect even upon our mood. In the past, during war, sound was a form of information to prepare, start or stop a war; it has been used as a warning sign of impending danger. Even the scriptures says “For if the trumpet give an uncertain voice, who shall prepare himself for war?” (1Corth14:8ASV)   Sound is also used in measuring distance between objects like the depth of a sea, distance between hills etc.

Sound can make you sad, joyful, fearful, expectant etc. With sound, you can actually depict what is happening. The ingenuity of sound is now very much employed in the making of films. Even in advertisements and in different programs, the sound you hear will go a long way to instruct you about the goings on in the environment. To be a good lover of music, you must have a good ear for sound. For music is just about the harmonising of different sound to produce the needed effect.

The power of sound have been used positively and negatively mostly in the area of music. The world has perfected the use of it and now they know how to get at the different group they want. You may not like the lyric of their music (which I personally feel is crazy and senseless) but you cannot take away the rhythms, which they get right. If you are not careful, you will find yourself responding in gyration before you consider the lyrics, that my friend is the power of sound.

It cannot be over emphasised that sound determines your mood. Even in the course of our daily interactions, we weigh words based on the sound they produced. We judged a statement not only based upon the contents of word alone but based on the context also which has to do with sound. This is what determines our responses, and our responses are always affected by the feelings we received off the sound of the word.

In other words, the power of words is primarily tied to the sound they produce. It is the sound that ultimately determines response. As the scripture says “If even inanimate musical instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone [listening] know or understand what is played?” (1Corih14:7AMP). The scripture is saying in essence that our responses in life are determined by the notes we can pick up from the sounds around us. Your life inadvertently is being controlled by the sound which you choose to hear consistently. It is not anybody’s fault, for if you are fed up with the way you are, you should change the sound around you. Either the one you speak to yourself audibly and inaudibly or the ones spoken to you by others either audibly or in audibly.

We have ignorantly for a very long time considered ourselves victims rather than victors in life. Now, don’t get me wrong, when I talk about being a victor or victim, I am especially talking about your perspective to life. You are not a victor because you have abundance; neither are you a victim because you don’t have enough. That is the world’s measure. How do you see your life? How do you measure yourself? These quizzes are answered only in perspectives. The Bible says the only thing that overcomes the world is whatever is born of God and the victory that overcomes the world is our faith. So a born again person has positionally overcome the world and its ways but the experiential victory will only manifest in his/her life through faith in the word of God. That is, living a life actively governed and directed by the word of God is what makes you a victor. So a man of faith, not minding the fact that he has abundance or is deprived is a victor not a victim. Period!

But the Bible also says that “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”. In other words, faith will only be developed and manifest out of your life when you give absolute and total yield to the sound of God’s word. As long as you have purposed in your heart to give heed always to the sound of God’s word, it will build your faith which in turn set you up for the victorious life. We can surmise then by saying that the sound of God’s word releases notes of victory which if you surround yourself with and respond to, you must be victorious.

You cannot surround yourself with God’s truth and remain a victim the rest of your life. That is impossible. The sound of God’s word is never a sound of defeat, neither is it a sound of failure, therefore you cannot be hearing the sound of the overcomers and the victorious and be dancing to the tune of the failures and the defeated. Something must be wrong somewhere, it is either that you are deaf to the sound or you don’t know how to pick notes or you don’t know how to dance. Whichever is the case, you need divine intervention, and you need healing to hear, to pick right notes and to dance.

In the midst of drought and no rain for three years, Elijah heard the sound of abundance of rain. The man was operating on a different pedestal from the sinful people around him. He was seeing and hearing differently. Notice that he was well provided for in the midst of the lack, so having taken care of the sins of the nation, he reverberated the same sound he had been hearing to the whole nation. You too child of God should be hearing a different sound from the sinful world, you should be dancing to a different tune, you should be responding to life situations differently because your case is different, you are a victor, you are provided for already, you are an overcomer, because you are already born again. Hallelujah!

I want you also to know that in the realm of faith, it is always sound before sight. The voice (sound) of faith is heard before the manifestation. That was what Elijah was demonstrating. To the man of faith, his word gets ahead of him, he eats the benefits of his word, and his words create his future. Whatever a man of faith wants he speaks by faith and he expects to meet it up front. His words are a reflection of the sound of music he had been hearing and he wished to dance to. Since he has released the notes, without any doubt he will surely dance to the music of healing, abundance, protections, holiness, breakthroughs, promotions, favour, fruit of the womb, business opportunities and every good thing which the Lord had promised His children in His word. So which music are you hearing? What tune do you intend to dance to? What sound are you constantly giving heed to? Your answer speaks of the future awaiting you because you will always dance to the sound of your music!!!
