All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

one touch.

matthew 9.18-26; luke 8.40-56; mark 5.21-43

Any of Donald Trump’s positive political statements have been trumped by his absurdities, such as his denigrating comments to megyn kelly, the moderator of the presidential debate the other night. Frustrated by her questioning, his mask fell off, and his disdain for women reared its ugly head; and of course, he refuses to apologize about his remarks which just so happen to have relevance here.1

In ‘How Jesus reacted when he was interrupted, http://pastorwoman.com/ReadArchive.aspx?id=1624 ;

– we briefly considered what the King James Version refers to as the ‘woman with the issue of blood’. The poor woman had been menstruating for 12 long years, which not only made her anemic and weak, it made her a social and religious outcast … in short, unclean. Three of the gospels include this story, which means it has a lot to say about Jesus. Singlehandedly, Jesus did more to elevate the position of women than anyone who has ever walked the earth. “Perhaps it is no wonder that the women were first at the Cradle and last at the Cross. They had never known a man like this Man - there never has been such another. A prophet and teacher who never nagged at them, never flattered or coaxed or patronised; who never made arch jokes about them, never treated them either as "The women, God help us!" or "The ladies, God bless them!"; who rebuked without querulousness and praised without condescension; who took their questions and arguments seriously; who never mapped out their sphere for them, never urged them to be feminine or jeered at them for being female; who had no axe to grind and no uneasy male dignity to defend; who took them as he found them and was completely unself-conscious.”2 I am smitten by that description.

Matthew’s version of the events was actually the shortest, and so I wish to include Mark’s biographical sketch for you: http://www.biblica.com/en-us/bible/online-bible/?osis=niv:Mark.5.21...;

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with this woman’s plight; this is my rendering:

just one touch.

he was about his father’s business—she just had to take a chance

how lonely she was—how desperate. “if only,” she thought, “then . . . “

as she readied herself for the day, it was the first time in a long time

that she allowed herself to hope.

she had heard that he was in town, where he would be teaching that day—

so she went to intersect his path.

there were so many people would she even be able to get up to him?

then … she spied him, and as usual, he was with a familiar band of men—

seeing that, knowing they tried to sometimes keep people back from him,

it wasn’t too likely she’d be able to talk to him—but try she must!

she reached out for him . . .

all she was able to touch was the hem of his garment,

but it was enough—she felt a surge go through her … he felt it too,

he turned and asked who had touched him—

she looked into his eyes and told him that it was her.

would he scorn her too, like all the others,

because of her bleeding disorder?

oh, no, he was love … where he was, there was love-

he offered hope.

he healed the woman because of her simple faith

two thousand years later, he is love.

he is hope-

won’t you reach out and touch the

hem of his garment?3 The Touch, Christine DiGiacomo

Jesus is readily accessible to you, my friends. He only requires you have a little faith —so go ahead, reach out and touch him. He is waiting.
