GOD WILL DO IT!! (A New Year Prayer)

The words, “God is faithful, and He will do it!” came to mind when I was looked at this photo. It needed a text to put in the corner.

But then I asked, “He will do WHAT??” I thought I should look up the context…

The NKJ says:

“Now may the God of peace HIMSELF sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” (1 Thes 5:23-24)

And there was an “Ah-hah” moment!!

It is HE who makes us holy!! HE is doing the sanctifying work in us!! It’s not up to US to strive to be holy! It is the Holy Spirit who makes us willing, and then who cooperates with willingness to make it a reality!!

That’s because of the new heart He has given us. We ARE new creatures, with new desires and aspirations!! God has done that change. We can’t change ourselves. We can dress up our old self, and make it look like it’s holy, but it doesn’t pass the test. Our own works fail miserably.

As Isaiah says, “Our righteousness is but filthy rags!!” Apart from His work of grace in us, we are nothing!!

So if you love God, and you know Jesus, I pray that this truth will be a reality for you! I pray that you will discover how to rest in Him, and quit striving. May you know His wonderful and complete GRACE!

As the NCV puts it…

“Now may God himself, the God of peace, make you pure, belonging only to him. May your whole self—spirit, soul, and body—be kept safe and without fault when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. You can trust the One who calls you to do that for you.”
