Feed your soul … THRIVE, #4
No adult really needs to be told how to care for his body …
just reminded.
No one needs to be told how to care for his mind either,
just challenged.
But, the soul? Different story. Pray tell me, how does one
care for her soul?
Your soul is the part of you that consists of your mind, character, thoughts, and feelings.1 [It is] like an inner stream of water, which gives strength, direction, and harmony to every other element of our life. When that stream is as it should be, we are constantly refreshed and exuberant in all we do, because our soul itself is then profusely rooted in the vastness of God and his Kingdom, including nature; and all else within us is enlivened and directed by that stream.2
In order to feed your souls, choose to T.H.R.I.V.E., meaning,
choose to:
          Trust God fully
get to know the Holy Spirit
          Read God’s Word
      be Intentional
Value every day, giving God thanks
          Exercise daily (outside, if possible)
We are living in history-making moments—difficult for sure, but giving us unique opportunities too. Personally, I want to emerge from Covid quarantine stronger, more alive. ‘You?
With that intention, Lord willing, these Morning Briefings will come to you five days a week to start your morning with the Lord. Let’s do this together—as I ask God for the inspiration to encourage and challenge you from the Word of God, will you ask him to help you discipline yourself and be intentional in feeding your soul?
I take you to the 139th Psalm ~
But first, a prayer for each of us: Holy Spirit, would you speak to me from the words of this psalm right now? Would you guard me from distraction as I read the precious thoughts of God toward me? And, would you enable me to see myself as the ‘me’, the ‘I’ in the words of the psalmist? Amen.
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.3
Do these words awaken your soul, Friend? I pray so.
Thank you, Lord, that you know us inside and out,
that you know what we think and do,
and are always with us.
Thank you that you never leave us alone.
Amen.
Choose that which will feed your soul today,
Christine
