Explaining the essence of the Sermon on the Mount of the beattitudes

1     Mathew 5:3-10

{3}   To be poor in spirit is to have a humble opinion and acknowledge your own helplessness they are sensitive to their own spiritual needs and rely on God. {4} Jesus was acquainted with grief, those who mourn are blessed; for there will come a day all tears shall be wipe away from their eyes and be comforted. {5}  A meek person is not weak but strong, gentle and kind in all circumstances especially humble and displays self-control, meekness is a personality trait and is a fruit of the Spirit. It should mark the Christian’s attitude towards a sinner. When Christ comes they will inherit the earth. {6} Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness ‘will be satisfied for they will be filled’ their desire for honesty and integrity as well justice in their society {7}  Those that are merciful are always compassionate showing God’s mercy and possess a forgiving spirit toward others who mistreat them for they will receive mercy from God. This grows out of one’s personal experience Mercy of God. {8}  The pure have singleness, in heart which has no hidden motive or selfish interest and is open, to all things and are pure in heart whose conscience are clean for they shall see God and are blessed. {9} Blessed are the peacemakers for they live in peace with all men, and are at peace with God for they shall be called sons of God. {10} When we are persecuted for doing good we accept it and willingly submit to it, for we are blessed as a child of God; for our integrity will expose the ungodliness’ we rejoice and are exceedingly glad for we process the Kingdom of God.

2   what is the theme of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount?

The beatitudes are a lifestyle how to live.

3   Define the meaning of the term, ‘kingdom of heaven’

The Kingdom of heaven is where ever God is allowed to Rule in the heart of men it is not a matter of food or drink or what we can see it is rightness’ peace joy in the Holy Spirit.

4   Why is it so blessed to be a citizen of the kingdom?

To process all qualities in Mat 5:12 “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

In 2 Pet 1:5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,

2 Pet 1:6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

2 Pet 1:7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

2 Pet 1:8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Pet 1:9 For he who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

2 Pet 1:10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

2 Pet 1:11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

5   Approximately how many prophecies are there concerning Christ?

Prophecies in the law are 330

6   Did Jesus fulfil the law? How?

     He did By fulfilling the purpose he came to earth for.

 7   Define the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees      

The Pharisees are greedy for wealth and they think that their righteousness is a way of Richness.     

8   Define the righteousness of the Kingdom

The righteousness of the Kingdom is not about words and action, or about gain. It’s to do with the hearts motives

 9   What does the word ‘Gehenna’ means?

 The name of a place everlasting punishment ‘hell’

 10    What is a stumbling block?

A stumbling block can be certain books, movies, pictures, and a situation

 11    What are we destined for

We are destined to the Kingdom of God

 12    What did the law have to say about divorce?

Whoever divorces his Wife, give her a certificate of divorce’

13    What is your opinion about divorce?

Whoever divorces for any reason except sexual immorality and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. God hates divorce;

 14    What is an oath or vow?

An oath or vow is an agreement you shall do according to all you say as in (Num 30:2 )  "If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

15    How do we stay true to our vows?

By letting your yes mean yes and no mean no anything else is contrary to speaking the truth in your heart.

 16    Which vows should you honour?

Better not to make a vow in the first place.

 17    How did Jesus expose the hypocrisy of the scribes and Pharisees?

By showing them that what they were doing was taking the Lords name in vain.  They were just doing it another way.

 18    What supports the Christian swearing of oaths?

It appears the scripture is against the use of oaths But you would support the swearing of an oath in important matters.

 19    Should we exact any vengeance on anyone?

No we should not it is left up to God

 20    How should we react to having evil done to us?

React to evil by doing Good (Mat 5:39 NKJV) “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. As an expression of love

21    What is an Old Testament example of forgiveness to a brother?

To love your neighbour as your self  (Lev 19:18 NKJV)  'You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am the LORD.

22    How should we love our neighbour?

 (Mat 22:39 NKJV)  "And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.'

 23    How do we live up to being sons of our Father in heaven?

We are to Show kindness to the evil and the unthankful.            

 24 What should we not do concerning fasting?

 We should not disfigure our face with a sad countenance

 25    Why should Christians fast today?

Christians should today fast prepare tor service and to please God.

 26    Explain the definition of the body and eye as a lamp.

The person whose motives that are pure, and have God’s interest at heart are flooded with light, and believes and forsakes earthly riches.

 27    How is ti that we can be distracted by physical needs?

Physical needs are painful

28    What is required when disciplining others?

Wisdom and knowledge humility and Love

 29    When should proper judgment be made?

Being careful in our judgment of others, at all times

 30    What kinds of judgment does Jesus condemn?

Judging without mercy and love

 31    What is the literal meaning of the word ‘perseverance’?

It’s a continuous action. To ask, seek, knock.

 32    How should we continue to persevere in Christ?

We are to persevere in looking to God for help in making proper discernment

33    Why should we follow the ‘golden rule?

We are to treat others how you want to be treated in Love that is "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

 34    How do we enter the kingdom?

Enter through the narrow gate for many are called but few are chosen for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it.

 35    What is the result of being a doer of the word?

The result of being a doer of the word is we will reap a harvest in due time doing Gods Will

36    How do we act upon Jesus’ words?

In being obedient to all that Jesus teaches.
