All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Many people have heard the story of Jesus walking on water. That can be found in Matthew 14:22-27:

22 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o’clock in the morning[a] Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

...Now why am I saying this? Well, later on in the story Peter decides to question Jesus.

28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. 31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32 When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed. (Matthew 14:28-33)

So whats the big picture here? Basically, Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and focused in on the storm. In doing that, he began to sink. It just goes to show that when we take our eyes off of our Savior, and instead look at our problems, we begin to fall short. We need to put our trust in God, and let him take care of our storm. If we don't, we can do nothing but fail. Sometimes it might be hard, but there needs to be an understanding. I don't know about you, but I serve a God who is in control of my storm. He is bigger than my storm. When you look at God, is He not bigger than your troubles? Put your trust in Him, and don't let your focus drift off into the land of darkness.

Thank you for reading this. This is my first blog...and I love this scripture. Its so amazing. The message behind it just gives me so much hope. I hope it does to you as well. Have a wonderful day and always remember that Jesus is BIGGER than your storm! :)

Sarah,
This is an awesome word you are sharing, I absolutely love it and it is timely for so many people. So true, if we keep our eyes on Jesus and listen to what He said, we will be fine. I love it here where Jesus is telling his desciples back then and us now to not be afraid because He knows what fear can do to people, fear make them sink.
These are good scriptures too, make us realize the power of the Word of God, trust in what He said to be the truth.
Psalm 138:2: “For You have magnified Your word above all Your name".
Psalm 119:9 “How can a young man cleanse his way? He answers, “By taking heed according to Your Word. 11 “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
God bless U sweetheart today and for the rest of your life in Jesus name!
