DEVOTIONAL THOTS: John 7
He didn't want to travel in Judea because Jews there wanted to kill him John 7:1 (GW)
When I still worked with Young Offenders I recall receiving death threats in fact one youth even got hold of my phone number and threatened to kill me. The Police were called in to investigate. I have never been threatened with death because of my faith in Christ. I have been ridiculed, laughed at and insulted. With the way things are changing here in Canada that may change. I receive a weekly news letter that repports of Christians being killed for their faith in numerous third world countries. Its hard to imagine. In John 7 Jesus' own are seeking to kill Him because of His teachings and especially of His claim of being God's Son - of being His equal. Instead of searching the scriptures to see whether or not His claims are justified they want to kill Him. Even His own brothers doubt Him.

Prior to leaving for Bible College 38 years ago this month one of the elders approached me and told me that though the Bible College was a Christian one I should still check with scriptures everything they teach. In a lot of congergations Bibles are more and more absent. I mean why should I bring my Bible from home when the scriptures are flashed on a screen? Yes, I have been negligent! The answer is to follow what is being taught for even the best of us make a mistake. Years ago a speaker I knew was preaching from 1 John (one of my favourites) and as I followed along I noticed he made a mistake. Later I cornored him on it and tried to discuss it with him but he would have nothing to do with it. Jesus spoke the Truth for His Truth or His message was straight from God. In fact Jesus points out to the religious leaders that they taught the Law but did not follow it. Know anybody like that today? Unfortunately there are those who are guilty of it. I remember some parents telling their kids not to smoke and swear yet in the breath they are doing it. Its the old "Do as I say not as I do." We can be assurred that God's Word is true and you will know it as you read AND study it. Someone once said it has the "ring of truth" about it. I accept it by faith.
1 Faith assures us of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see. 2 God accepted our ancestors because of their faith.
3 Faith convinces us that God created the world through his word. This means what can be seen was made by something that could not be seen.

So the people were divided because of Jesus. John 7:43 (GW)
So many people were divided in their beliefs as to who Christ really was. It hasn't changed today one bit. Some believe He was simply a rophet, a good man, a wise man and so forth. Here is my confession. I belive with all my mind, my heart and with my soul that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God and that out of pure love for me God sent Him to earth born of a virgin, born in poverty but rich in grace, love and forgiveness redeemed me as I heard His message, accepted it by faith and yielded my self (unconditionally) to Christ and through baptisim became one with Him Ro.6:1-11.I now live to serve Him and die to join Him for all eternity in Heaven with God the Father.
