All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Dear Editor,

My name is Robin Sherman. On July 5, I read the article in The Item about the Blue Laws. The city council wants to do away with the Blue Laws. I think the blue laws should in place.
One reason why Blue Laws be should kept in place so people can rest and ready for the next working week. Now, people are saying they earn more money if work and that is true. There is a phrase the verse in 2 Samuel 2:30 that says, “Those who honor me, I honor.” In the bible Sabbath Rest is mentioned several times. Sabbath Rest is not without trials but rather a special period of time to draw closer to God; It is a period of rest where God anoints you with His Grace, Power and Strength and renews your Spirit for ministry.
Another reason why the Blue Laws need to stay in place is so that there are Christians who are working in retail stores can go to church. If the stores are allowed to be open before 1:30 PM, many Christians would have to make the decision go to church and risk losing their jobs or go to working. In Exodus 20:8, God commands us to keep the Sabbath Holy. How can Christians keep God's laws holy if they are enforced to worked during church's hours? If they don't work on Sunday mornings, their bosses might fire them. In the old testament, God's people observe Saturday as their Sabbath. Sunday became the holy day when Jesus rose from the death on first day of the week. We see that in Matthew 28. After that Christians began to meet on Sundays so they can worship the Lord to honor Jesus.
Are we, as Christians, going to let our local government do this to our freedoms? I say no. If every Christian contact the city council by a phone call, an email or write a letter, they would have to keep the Blue Laws in effect. We can do this. The local government works for us.
