All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

James 1: 21, 22, “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and
receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye
doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Jesus doesn’t care about sin. He doesn’t about divorce or gambling or pornography; He doesn’t care about drunkenness or lying or homosexuality or abortion. He doesn’t care about the truth of His Holy Word. Jesus just wants to make us happy and prosperous and help us to fulfill our dreams…even if He isn’t in them.

Jesus is too nice and too kind to make any serious demands on us about growing in holiness or living a godly life even though we’re His people who were bought with His blood. Even though our salvation cost Him His life, we don’t believe that ought to cost us anything. After all, we have Christian liberty and His grace covers us--no matter what we do. He loves us too much to demand anything from us that makes us uncomfortable. He is a God Who puts few, if any demands on us, and Who is completely devoted to our happiness and He doesn’t care what we do just as long as we enjoy ourselves and give Him a passing acknowledgement (when and if we have time).

We’ve been blind, so very, very blind to God’s truth. We’ve willingly embraced a false God and a false gospel. We’ve listened to Satan’s lies (and his counterfeit gospel) for so long, that we no longer know what truth is or if there even is any such thing. All we know is that we want to have fun…to have a good life…a good marriage…children who make us proud…baubles and bangles and all of the glittery, shiny things that the world offers… no matter how empty they truly are. We no longer separate ourselves from the world and hide ourselves away with God (that is so very old-fashioned). This world offers us so very, very much (if we‘ll only sell ourselves to buy it), but it delivers so very, very little. All of the world’s false gods will ultimately leave us either disappointed or destroyed, but we refuse to acknowledge that. That happens to other people who weren’t focused, who didn’t have a plan, who weren’t smart enough to straddle the line and keep a foot in both worlds…but we aren’t like that. We are so much more talented, brilliant, prepared…we can beat the system. We can buy the world and dine with Satan and still have Jesus. We are in pursuit of our dream (whatever it is) and we’re going to reach it. When we do, we’ll have all the “stuff” (fame, money, freedom, things, success, downtime) that we want and then we’ll tell everyone how God has blessed us. Unfortunately, right now, we simply don’t have time to read God‘s Word, or go to church, or pray…but God, being god, simply understands (He always does, we‘re sure, after all, we don‘t give him a choice).

We no longer know the real Jesus: the stripped, beaten, humiliated, suffering, poverty-stricken Savior Who crushed by His Father for our sins. We forget that He said in Luke 9: 23, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” We’ve convinced ourselves that truth is relative and we can pick and choose what we like. That is a lie of the devil borne in the darkest part of hell. God’s truth isn’t a suggestion, it‘s a command. “Follow me” means be like Me. God’s ways stand whether or not we accept them. Jesus wants to be our Savior, He is our Lord (even if we refuse to acknowledge it), He will ultimately be our Judge.
We’ve formed a picture in our minds of Jesus as an elevated human. We’ve downplayed His deity and His commands so long that we’re now hardened to them. The trouble is not that we haven’t heard the truth but that we’re ignoring the truth. Satan has deceived us and we’ve let him. He’s convinced us that we can have the best of both worlds. He doesn’t care how “sold out to God” we appear to be as long as our heart isn’t in it. He lets us, even encourages us to be partially obedient to God because it’s easier to sell us that than it is outright rebellion against God. The trouble is, partial obedience is no obedience at all. Jesus didn’t die so that you could be comfortable sinning but so that you would be conformed to His image and hate sin. All of the lies of Satan will never change that.

Thanks Winifred. It is so easy to be deceived by the one who pretends to be "an angel of light". God bless, Anna
