All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2 Peter 1:3

Me to You.

I love the saying, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never no what your going to get.” This week as I was walking through the internet I saw an advertisement on one of the many banners that is posted every where and it was for a church and they were using this famous title. I have been struggling with this title all week. Wondering if life is really a box of chocolates and what kind of chocolate would I be?

As a child growing up I could expect every Valentines day that my grandfather would be getting me a box of chocolates. I would wonder what kind I was getting, one in a heart shaped or the new snoopy ones? And every Valentines day I would be utterly surprised at the box of chocolates that I was presented with. Of course as I got older the box got bigger. But when I hit about the age of sixteen I stopped receiving these boxes of chocolate. I didn’t understand for awhile until a comment was made one day from my Grandfather that now that I am sixteen I probably would be getting a boyfriend and not needing him. Oh yes, now I understood.

When the movie Forest Gump came out and he uttered the famous words “My momma says life is like a box of chocolates, you never no what your gonna get,” I can remember this saying being over used and over produced by many people, teachers, parents, mentors. I always thought to myself, “why am I being compared to a box of chocolates?” but as I grew in my spiritual walk with the Lord I came to realize that I could understand why life was being compared to a box of chocolates.

Just visualize opening up a big heart box. As your looking down upon this box and wondering what kind of chocolate is what because really they all look a like and you don’t want to get one that is “nasty” because it will mess the whole day, but you can’t tell what is what, so your reach down and pick one up and you poke the bottom out and see what color goop comes seeping out. Is it a pinkish color or white? Maybe a dark truffle? This is how we can easily compare life.

Just like this box of chocolates we receive “gifts”, blessings from God. Now we can put our box aside or we can open it and see what God has in store for us. Just like the chocolates God puts special things inside of us to be used. We can look at the box as just some chocolates that are okay or we can take a chance and pick a chocolate that might not be what we want, but we can learn to deal with it. I see the goop as Gods plan for us. Sometimes it is so good and other times we hate the flavor. God will never give us too much chocolate or goop that we can’t deal with. He will never just leave us to sour the taste of one that is bad, but he will help us through. He wants us to take big bites out of faith. He will give us the desires of our hearts, if we only trust in Him. We might go through many boxes until we find the perfect chocolate, but it’s all in God’s timing, not ours. He will give us the right chocolate at the right time. God doesn’t make bad chocolates.

Today’s Prayer

Jesus, thank you for the box of life that you in trust us with. Please help us to take a big bite of faith this week. To trust in you and walk with you. Help us to keep our chocolates in your heart box. I love you so very much and I thank you for your wonderful plan that you have for us—good or bad goop. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Questions for Thought

Is there any type of “goop” that you have yet to deal with?
Is there a certain box you are in that you shouldn’t be in?
Are you in God’s heart box?
Have you chosen to put your box aside or to open it and start taking bites?
Do you trust that its in Gods timing and not ours?
