All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I have been stuggling for sometime with the role of women in God's Church. And would appreciate others thoughts on this subject.

I come from a bacground where women were indirectly forbidden from holding leadership roles. Sunday school teaching of 4th grade and below, social women's ministiries, etc. was all. I even found this to be true teaching in a Christian middle and high school. I could teach but that was it. Since my husband and two wonderful daughters were in this same environment, that is how they still feel to one degree or another. I am struggling with this issue directly. I am in a wonderful, Spirit filled church with a husband wife leadership team. I am seeing first hand how powerful a Spirit-filled woman in leadership can be.

My pastors recommended a book "10 Lies the Church Tells Women" by J. Lee Grady. I found it very insightful and informative. The 10 Lies he discusses are:
1) God created women as inferior beings, destined to serve their husbands.
2) Women are not equipped to assume leadership roles in the church.
3) Women must not teach or preach to men in a church setting.
4) A woman should view her husband as the "priest of the home.
5) A man needs to "cover" a woman in her ministry activities.
6) Women who exhibit strong leadership qualities pose a serious danger to the church.
7) Women are more easily deceived than men.
8) Women can't be fulfilled or spiritually effective without a husband and children.
9) Women shouldn't work outside the home.
10) Women must obediently submit to thier husbands in all situations.

I can say, after being in a Spirit filled churhc for over a year, a lot of my old beliefs were based on man's interruptation rather than God's. I now believe and have had God address almost all of these issues with me. For the most part the female's role in the church and God's work is the same as the man's. God is truly no respector of persons. There is true freedom in Christ and allowing Him to speak directly to the Spirit filled person.

I am not sure about this either; I read in the Bible that women were not to take on leadership roles either; much of what your book says. I will do more research on this as it has disturbed me as well.(Although,I believe women do have their places; Mothers have been said to be the best prayer warriors;because of their intense prayers/especially for their children & god holds a special place for them & the prayers go directly to gods ear!.) I also believe that it sounds like old politics as in old times; that women were always to be treated as second class citizens. I will research this subject intensely because I'd like to know also. ( sound sort of male chauvinistic to me-> even though submissive wives is in the bible.) And perhaps, God may really want it to be this way; Because the man Is supposed to be respected as the leader of the community, church,& home. I have seen it in the old testament,& will look in the new tstmnt to see if it applies to future & to what extent. <+> 1),7),8),9)& possibly 6) dont ring true & sound deceptive to me. 5) the man to protect the women i believe, is what they mean there. 6) in mixed company possible mayhem would ensue.& 9) refers to it keeping married women/moms from their fmly duties. (But these are only my interpretations & are not biblical)...1) God didnt make us stupid or inferior; ,just the weaker "partner" to be protected by the husbands.
