NIAMEY, Niger — At least 68 churches, two of which were Baptist, have been burned in the West African country of Niger.

Panlieba Tchalieni, president of the Union of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Niger, reported that the church burnings, carried out by Muslim extremist group Boko Haram, occurred in the Zinder region and Niamey.

“In terms of Baptist churches in Niger, we have two churches that are burned: the first evangelical church in Niger built in 1928 and another behind the Niger River built 15 years ago,” Tchalieni said.

Boko Haram, a Nigerian-based radical jihadist group that seeks to establish Sharia law, has extended its activities to other countries in West Africa, including Niger, where it has carried out recent attacks in the southeast.

Thousands of civilians fled their homes in the southeastern Niger town of Diffa. The area was already under stress, providing refuge to some 150,000 people who crossed the border to escape the violence in northern Nigeria.

Niger, which shares much of its southern border with Nigeria, declared a 15-day state of emergency in Diffa after a series of attacks by Boko Haram.

Kojo Amo of Ghana, chairman of the western region of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship, appealed for prayer and support for the Christian church in Niger. “Please let us remember Christians in Niger in our prayers that the Lord will strengthen them in the faith during this difficult time.”

Amen watchman. I believe that one of the reasons we haven't faced persecution yet is because of the remnant that stay on their knees & in front of the throne. More & more are playing Happy Church but there are still those who believe the Lord & take Him at His word. You're correct about those who are dying for Him are better off then those who are killing because of Him.

Tammy,

Thank you so much for posting these.  So much persecution all around the world for our brothers and sisters....and yet....I hate to even speak it, but we are so desensitized here...we can't even wrap our minds around what Christianity is, let alone living it out.  I'm tired, I know I sound like an old record, but we MUST be vigilant and sensitive to what our family is going through.  Ironic, but I'm afraid that the reason we are not suffering persecution here in the West is because our Christianity is holding hands with the world and not speaking the Truth, but instead just trying to get along.

I watched an interview with a Catholic leader this morning....I was awakened when he spoke a statement about this world is going to become better and more peaceful....According to the Word, it's NOT, it's going to become darker and darker and darker.

I'm so saddened for those who can wrap themselves in their blankets at night, with a full belly, and a roof over their heads, and nothing more to worry about but what they are going to eat for dinner.  I'm saddened for all of those who are dying without Jesus, for those who are killing because of Jesus, and for those who are dying because of their Faith.  I'm less saddened for those dying for Jesus, then I am for those who are murdering them because of Jesus.  My heart quakes with grief for them.

These people know not what they do, they, like us who are immune from the persecutions of our brothers and sisters abroad, simply follow the crowd.

When is the last time the church here in America has grieved, cried, intercessed and fasted and prayed for those who are struggling.  Perhaps we've not been truly blessed here in America from religious persecution.....because we do not carry the Good News to our neighbors, or live the Truth.  I would tell you that you will be persecuted for your faith if you did these things.

Begin to live the Truth and you will find persecution of every sort and of every way.  You will be challenged socially, financially, and physically.  Even from those in your own courts.

The Good News
