Love Is: 1 Corinthians 13, Am I?

In this book Gumbel tells the story of a woman that promised herself to read 1 Corinthians 13 everyday, in which Paul explains so beautifully what love and what the importance of love is.

Love

1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I…

Photo Journal: Spring as a Kingdom Metaphor

It may be me but spring seems to liven me up. Realizing that all day you have not used the log burner (which is, with the current price of wood a joy in itself), playing outside under the stars on my good old “stekkie” which is the Dutch word for a favorite little

spot, reading the Bible in the…

Photo Journal: Porters Pass and Psalm 121

Those that know me a little better know that I am not particularly a fan of snow. When people talk about snow fun I usually start to glare as snow fun used is like a “contradictio in terminus” for me. But, we

ended up taking the boys to the snow. All the excuses could not rescue

me and in all fairness, I do not know a child that does not love snow.I

tried hard to escape the inevitable, tried every excuse in the book yet

to no avail. In hindsight I am glad, since I have to…

Just Do It: Thoughts on Ecclesiastes 11:4

Todays Purpose Driven Connection email by Rick Warren focused on Ecclesiastes 11: 4

Whoever watches the wind will not plant, whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

In the email this was translated as

If you wait for perfect conditions you never get anything done.

The post continues with explanation how this promotes to serve with

what you have and not wait until the circumstances are… Continue

Quote of the day: Graham Truscott

Today I started reading Graham Truscott’s “You Shall Receive Power” (http://www.truscottmissions.com/GrahamBooks.htm) and I’d like to share the following quote from the book the title of which is derived of course from Acts 1:8:

“We simply have not had the the Power to obey our Lord’s command “to preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15 which is understood be me as all creation a in the NIV translation.)…

Hanging onto God's Word: The Bible an the Butterfly

Some time ago I posted a picture of one of the ‘adopted’ butterflies in the house after we’d rescued the cocoons from the winter cold. When going through my archive I stumbled upon the pictures below and upon a

closer look I realized that this was probably even more amazing. Of all

the places this good butterfly could have chosen to sit down after the

first short flight, it…

I am the gate

Another mobile phone picture I re-edited. It reminded me of John 10:9

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.

I am the gate? When Jesus compares himself to the door or gate one should keep in mind the way things worked in those days. The sheep…

Psalm 51: Create in me a pure heart

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

When David wrote this Psalm he had gotten a reality check. The prophet Nathan confronted him with his adultery with Batsheba (See 2 Samuel 11 and 12).

David had a good look into his own heart and saw the condition it was in. And it was not a pretty sight. He was offered a clear view on the damage, devastation so you wish that had been brought about…

Free Ebook: Ian Wishart’s The Divinity Code

Down Memory Lane

I remember well when reading Ian’s “Eve’s Bite” an more specifically the parts about Dawkin’s “God Delusion” how it was so beautiful to see someone so fierce in standing up for his faith. In fact I was jealous a bit actually. At the time I was not a

Christian, yes believed that there must be more to the universe that

sheer coincidence, random…

An Inconvenient Truth?

32Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God (1 Corinthians 10:32)

Today I visited an acquaintance. We were supposed to be visiting the Healing Room Christchurch but it was closed because of the school holidays. Upon my arrival I saw his state of being was not too flash. He

felt rejected by society and most of all by what are supposed to be his

brothers and sisters…

An Interview with Pastor Ravi Daniel in Pakistan

Introduction

All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Mark 13:13)

All men will hate you; that is not a pleasurable foresight for anyone that is considering to become a follower of Jesus. At the same time for many in the western countries, “hate you” will have a different

meaning. Many will think probably of how some people dislike

Christianity or about Atheists making claims about the…

Day of the Pentecost, First Half Year as a Christian and Quiting the Smoking.

Yesterday I celebrated the Day of the Pentecost at Harmony Church which has really

become my home church. Rapidly building a reputation as that young new

church “is where it is really happening” I found myself there yesterday

committing quietly to stop the smoking and this time no more “bs”.

Tomorrow I am celebrating my conversion exactly 6 months ago on 25

November 2009. Looking back it has been an amazing ride which… Continue

‘Raising the Dead: A Doctor Encounters the Supernatural’

ROME, ITALY (ANS) — The audience of more than 270 doctors from some 40 countries around the world sat in stunned silence today (Friday, May 21, 2010) in the eternal

city of Rome, as a renowned heart doctor produced evidence of how,

after he had prayed for a patient who had died and was being prepared

for the morgue and then he was brought back to life after that prayer.…

Apologetics an why the church needs it

It is amazing to see how years of looking at the Christian faith with a view of exposing the church as a fraud, have left me with an apologetic basis that can be drawn upon for the greater good. For those

of you not familiar with the term I refer to 1 Peter 3:15, 16 which is

can be used as the biblical rationale for apologetics:

“… Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with…
