I think that the long and short of it is that if anyone has continuing, deliberate sin in their life then they had better get right with God. That is the heart of what I am saying as Heb 10:26-27 says to CHRISTIANS, "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God."
There are many, many other such warnings to believers. Many try to say that these warnings are to the unsaved but that is as silly a thing as I have ever heard. Others say that they are warnings to believers but they will never happen and that is as equally silly as a warning without a consequence is a toothless tiger ... how many would stop at a stop sign if there was no penalty?
God doesn't come to dwell within us because He has nowhere better to go. He comes to cleanse us as 2 Thess. 2:13 says that we are "saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth".
I think that we have exactly the same opinion but a little mis-communication makes it appear that we are not saying the same thing.
For example, you said "What he [Paul] is saying is that it isn’t OUR righteousness at all that saves us. It is the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST - COUNTED as our righteousness" (it says that in Phil 3:9) and I agree 100%. You also said, "You see God looking down on us, keeping score, seeing if we are righteousness. It is something we are still striving to achieve" but I don't see it that way. What I see is God living within us and declaring us righteous because "He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous" (1 John 3:7) and we can only "do what is righteous" through the power of the Spirit.
To me, you sum it up perfectly in saying, "But living by the Spirit is NOT something I do to enter into God’s Grace – God’s Grace is what ENABLES me to live by the Spirit!" It would be putting the cart before the horse to say that we enter His Grace by living according to the Spirit as we don't receive the Spirit until we repent and enter into His Grace.
I have a lousy memory and only just remembered that we discussed this before.
Hey there Paul. Yes, what I am saying is that by Grace we are saved through the power of the Holy Spirit and to remain saved we must "live according to the Spirit" otherwise we will lose our salvation (Rom. 8:12-13). God's Divine Power, the Holy Spirit, enables us to resist sin and be freed from our sinful nature ... after being saved, we can choose to walk in the Spirit or ignore the Spirit's conviction and sin. My video Salvation Part 1 covers that point so I will put it at the end of this comment. Also Part 4 deals with the Once Saved doctrine.
“For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”- 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
May His Kingdom rises upon us.
hello paul, here is a joke from the AAG forum, i am sharing it with you-
WHAT'S A CHURCH?
A well-worn one-dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty-dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation. The twenty-dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the country.
"I've had a pretty good life," the twenty-dollar bill proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City , the finest restaurants in New York , performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean "
"Wow!" said the one-dollar bill. "You've really had an exciting life!"
"So tell me," says the twenty-dollar bill, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?"
The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church , the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church."
The twenty-dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"
