Ok, okay...way behind in adding flowers from my woods, I'll start with this year's (2013) early bloomers then add ones from previous two years alphabetically.  Actually I have two files regarding flowers, the first is simply" Flowers" and the second is "Herbs", I'll do a separate listing of the herbs that have lovely flowers.

The first bloomer we have in Spring is Crocus vernus, which has various colors, this batch of  yellow buds is just peeking through a light dawn snowfall Easter Sunday a week ago. (Easter, Mar 31, 2013)

A close up of a single bud.

Next day it had fully emerged and bloomed.

Crocus vernus, a side view of purple ones just blooming, showing fur that helps protects from snow & frost. (April 2013)

Crocus vernus,  a cluster of mixed colors. (April 2013). Usually the end of March or mid-April is our last snow.  At this time of the year the ground is pretty much covered with dead leaves, small twigs, grass, empty shells of nuts with a fewclear areas of muddy ground where the deer have bedded down.

Always one of my favorite flowers, both my Irish and Scottish grandmothers had these everywhere around their small farms.  Only last a few days, but always a sure sign winter is over. And, the pretty much always bloom right at Easter here.

Crocus vernus,  a cluster of white. (April 2013).

Narcissus jonquilla, Daffodill Patch behind the cabin (April 2013).  Several days after the Crocus' bloomed, the first of the buttercups opened.

Tulipa gesneriana, heavy frost on tulip bud. (Mar 2012). The third flower to bloom here are the tulips, again close to Easter depending on temperature. With an early warm spell fo a few days they have a tendency to bloom too early and die the next frost.
