All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

For Grace Baptist Church

Introduction

In this message I would like to discuss that there are many people all around us, even in our Churches who are brokenhearted and wounded.

Their lives are full brokenness. There is not the fullness of joy, the completeness of peace, or the overflowing love in their lives that there should be there as Children of God.

Text Luke 4:16-20

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted

Some of the reasons people are brokenhearted.

A. Rejection, abandonment, divorce.

B. Abuse, cruelty, and hurtful words.

C. Loss of job, loss of a relationship, or loved one.

We don’t have to walk around with brokenness in our lives. We don’t need to spend our whole lives here on earth dealing with our brokenness.

Jesus said he came to heal the brokenhearted. He is a God who can take a broken heart that is like humpty dumpty; fragment and in pieces and even though all the kings horses and all the kings men can’t put it back together again, yet God can, and will put it back together.

Sociological studies show that broken and hurting people hurt others. Those who have been hurt in their heart are often angry, bitter, resentful, or close themselves in. Huge barriers are erected in their lives to keep people away so they won’t get hurt again.

My Grandfather’s brother’s heart was broken when he was a young man by a girl friend who booth used and betrayed him.

It is sad to say that all the rest of his life was marked with anger, resentment, and cynicism.

the pastor even commented on his demeanor at his funeral.

Joni Erickson Tada

You don't have to be alone in your hurt! Comfort is yours. Joy is an option. And it's all been made possible by your Savior. He went without comfort so you might have it. He postponed joy so you might share in it. He willingly chose isolation so you might never be alone in your hurt and sorrow.

Albert Haase

It takes a lot of emotional and psychological energy to keep a wound open, to keep a grudge alive. The longer I allow a wound to fester, the more bitterness, anger and self-pity poison and it eat at heart and soul..

A broken person needs heart surgery by the Great Physician. Only Jesus can heal the brokenhearted. He is the healer of the inward parts of man; spirit, heart, and emotions.

I do not hesitate to say that in many cases that healing is nothing less than a miracle.

Exodus 15:26b The LORD says; “I am the Lord who heals you…

When our heart is shattered, there is one truth we need to hold on to: God loves us unconditionally. But regardless of our weakness and fears, God does hear us when we call for his help.

It’s true: Satan’s lies can greatly sway you and me during those vulnerable moments.

In a traumatized wounded state, we may not—or cannot—comprehend the depths of God’s unconditional love.

To help us experience God's love and prepare our hearts for his life-changing healing, we must first know him. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

If you are deeply wounded, you may ask: “Why would God heal me?"

1- God heals because he is The Healer—and because he loves you. He created you for his infinite love. In Jeremiah 31:3, God says to you, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”

2- God heals in response to his promises. In Jeremiah 30:17a, God says to you, “I will restore you to health and heal your wounds.”

Think about it: Jesus dedicated much of his ministry to healing diseased bodies and broken hearts.

3- God heals when you demonstrate faith—even a smidgen the size of a mustard seed. Matthew 9:22 tells of a woman hemorrhaging for twelve years. As Jesus walked by, she touched the hem of his garment. Jesus turned and said, “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.” By faith, she reached out and was healed instantly. God responds to faith.

4- God heals to encourage people to come to Him. David wrote: “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins, and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion” (Psalm 103:2-4).

5-God wants to heal you of a broken heart so you can minister to others who are brokenhearted.

Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted of God. 2 Corinthians 1:4

Floyd McClung says;

Emotional healing is almost always a process. It takes time. There is a very important reason for this. Our heavenly Father is not only wanting to free us from the pain of past wounds, he is also desirous of bringing us into maturity, both spiritually and emotionally. This work is done from the inside out.

Here’s a mystery you may find hard to believe:

God not only heals, but he can turn even the most horrid experiences in your lives into something good.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:28-29.

The Scripture does not say that the things that hurt us are good, but that God can and will use these things that have hurt us to conform us to the image of his son.

Although the damage and scars in our lives may run extremely deep, Jesus can heal them. He heals broken hearts; he repairs wounds.

When a bone is broken and then heals it becomes stronger in the broken place than the rest of the bones.

No matter what sins we have committed, no matter how terrible our life may be, God loves us. Our job is to rest in his unfailing love and surrender our heart to him.

That takes time, because we need time to learn to make the right choices. He loves us enough to take the months and years necessary to not only heal our wounds, but also build our character. Because without growth of character we can get wounded again.

Max Lucado wrote;

Our Savior kneels down and gazes upon the darkest acts of our lives. But rather than recoil in horror, he reaches out in kindness and says, 'I can clean that if you want.' And from the basin of his grace, he scoops a palm full of mercy and washes our sin away.

All of us know the story of Job.

The story of Job is indeed the story of the human condition. The message of Job is that evil could sometimes happen to good people.

However, those who believe in God and trust in him would triumph over evil.

Evil can never have the last say in the life of any Christian.

The cry of Job is the cry in the hearts of many Christians today.

Many of us are struggling with both physical and emotional pain; many of us may have made some mistakes in life; life has not been fair to us.

However, it is important that we stop blaming ourselves or hanging on to the past with its regrets.

When the night appears too long and the day so dark, we must remember that we are not alone.

We must look up to Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.

Jesus Christ shows us in the Gospel that he has the power to change our condition.

We are looking to Jesus because He alone can heal us of our hurts and pains; he alone can change our financial condition; he can take care of our families and children; he alone can forgive us our sins and strengthen us to serve him with a healed and restored heart.

The Good News is that if we accept Jesus as our Master and Lord, he can do for us what we could never do for ourselves. Yes, Jesus has the power to change our conditions.

Prayer

Father God we come to you The Lord who is a healer of broken hearts. Father many of us have experienced deep woundedness in our hearts that has caused us to become bitter, we just can’t get through it on our own without your help.

Father thank you that Jesus showed us the heart of God when he came to live among us.

Today help us all here in this church to come to know you as the healer of broken hearts that you can give us grace to forgive, that we will be able to become strong in the broken places and experience the love of God filling our hearts where there once was filled with brokenness.

Father if there is anyone here today that is struggling and needs the great physician to do a work of healing, I pray they will draw near to you and allow the Holy Spirit to do the work that needs to take place.

In the name of Jesus amen
