All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

When I was young, my mother insisted that we go to church every Sunday morning and every Sunday night and also made sure that we attended a youth group once a week, so of course I did and as a result I gave my heart to the Lord at a very young age.  Other than going to church, my mother never prayed with me or read the Bible to me.  I guess she thought church was enough.  However, as I grew older, I turned away from God and lived most of my adult life "enjoying" things of the world. Recently, I have gotten back on the right path and have committed my life to Jesus. Within six months of doing this, I read the Bible (NLT version) through from cover to cover and was amazed at what I found!  I couldn't believe that I didn't know what was in there.  I always thought that just because I had gone to church all those years, I knew everything there was to know about being a Christian, but in actuality, I knew very little!!  I now have very young children myself and I'm looking for some thing that I can do to make them more aware of God's truth and hopefully give them a better start than I had as a child.  My oldest, Alivia, is 4 1/2 and my twins, Connor and Leigh Anna, just turned three.  I've started taking them to Sunday School and church regularly over the last year, but what can I do at home on a daily basis to help them along?  Any suggestions?

Hi Kathy,

I am so very thankful that you started this discussion.  I have two boys, and I have been teaching them about Jesus.  I have tried a few things that have worked..  sooo---some ideas to start:

Do devotions with your kids as often as their attention span will allow.  Know when to stop so that they are not overwhelmed, or bored.  There are some really fun devotion kids books with coloring and crafts.

Also, build the discussion about Jesus into their day..  invite Him into every part of your lives.  When they have a question, tell them that you will look the answer up in the bible together.  Train them in this way to continually seek out God's opinion on things, and not the worlds.  Pray in the morning--the day is an offering to the Lord that His will is done and not their own.   and at night---for protection and guidance also when they sleep..  pray for the people in the world who don't know Jesus.  When they are not sure what to do about something, teach them to pray about it and ask the Lord what He thinks they should do.  God is so faithful beloved..  He is beautiful, and He will bless all your efforts.

God Bless you for Glorifying Him and your faithfulness to Him.

Blessings, Carla

Thank you Carla, these are great ideas.  I was trying the "devotional" with them, if you want to call it that, I could not keep their attention for more than a few minutes, but if there were coloring or crafts involved, they would love that!  I was also doing this just before putting them all to bed, which may not be the best time for this age. I'll try it in the evening after supper when we have a little more time.

God bless you,

Kathy
