All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I have been dealing with depression for some years now. Its so wearing to awake every morning and in some way wish I hadn't. I have tried so many therapies but nothing has helped. In the begining it all started with a number of family problems and health problems. Now ashamedly it seems to be driven by financial problems. as probably with so many people in these difficult times. Its all begining to wera my family out, as they feel I should just pull myself together! Wish I could !! Having found this site though, I now feel so optimistic and any suggestions of bible readings, prayer etc would be so much appreciated. I pray to Jesus many times a day but feel rather greedy in asking him to help me out when so many other people have so many greater problems, but I feel the power of darkness gathering around me and feel so frightened.

Thanks Kat, God Bless you too. I realise now as you say that there are no quick fixes. I am so gratefull for having God to talk to and people like yourself. Have you found that the depression gets better as time passes ?
Neil
Hi Neil, I know and have been were you are in life and it is a very dark and scary place!
God does not want you to be powerless!!!!

2 Timothy 1:7 (New International Version)
7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
1 John 4:18 (New International Version)
18There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is
1 Chronicles 16:11 (New International Version)

11 Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always.

Stand on the word of your Father!!!

Seek his face ..means (learn of his nature!!) as we are recognized by our face and our name..
Jesus is the face of our Father unseen, his life is the very Face of your Father!

When you learn of his true nature you will no longer be afraid.

Read Collossians, galations and Romans, all are inspirational and let you know so deeply through the words of Paul our fathers nature, read Mathew,...read, pray and SING YOUR HEART OUT IN PRAISE!!!

An important lesson was learned through Pauls actions to sing to our Father even in the dingy prison he was encaptureed with so little hope and so much dispair!!
There are just so many promises of his love to you and I have just so much to share on this matter because my Father has shown me his nature and freed me from Depression, my life is no bed of roses and my grandmother is on her death bed as I speak, my day has been long and difficult, but my Father gives me still the key to happiness and that key is in seeking to know his true nature and in so knowing his true intentions for me.

I would love to talk to you more and encourage you so I will add you as my freind.

There is a way through the darkness and that is Jesus Christ!!
Dear Maggie,
yes I know you are right. I place my trust in God and will pray for you and your problems. You sound like such a nice person. I feel so selfish when I ask God to help me with my depression but each day it seems to get worse, and so many times I have wished that my life could end and I could find peace.
I know that I am not alone with these feelings and that so many others suffer the same way. Its when I realise that there are such kind people as yourself out there that I feel encouraged.
I would love to hear from you and thanks again so much for your advice and encouragment.
Neil
you are not selfish! far from it Neil.
God wants you to ask him, he wants to be able to give you as his son every good thing.
HE LOVES YOU.
Can you imagine wanting someone to have something you know is awesome, and they wont even look at it!
Ask ask and ASK AGAIN he would dearly love to hear your voice, asking for his help, asking for his joy, asking for the very thing he wants to give you so very very much.
Niel, please watch this.
Thanks for your message Maggie. I struggle each day, but find great comfort in the help and encouragement I get from kind people such as yourself.
God Bless you
Neil
I am so sorry to read of your terrible struggle with depression. I can TRULY say I know what it is like. It is so overpowering and tenacious and to me, feels like a 'monster' that just won't go away...I too know the feeling of waking up in the moring and wishing I hadn't. There is hope. I had taken all the antidepressant medications and NONE of them worked. I finally had to go on a mood stabilizer and it has helped so much.

I also understand family members saying things like "You just need to try harder..." or "Get yourself togehter..pull yourself up by the 'bootstraps'".. Soooo fustrating because they just don't get it.

I know what you mean about feeling 'greedy' or maybe a selfish for asking Jesus to help you throughout your day. Don't worry PLEASE. He WANTS you to ask Him and loves and cares for you. I will say that praying for others seems to help in a different way and helps us to take the focus off ouselves and onto something positive you can do for others. Somehow, praying for others helps to 'lift' the depression a bit. Just a little advice. Also, praising God for who He is is very helpful, too.

In Christ,
Dawn
Thanks Dawn, your help is much appreciated. Strange thing about depression is that you doubt anyone else could suffer from it in the same way that you do, but clearly many do and I will pray for them. Without God I would have been lost ages ago. Having a family that doesn't understand as you well know makes it very difficult but now that I have discovered so many kind and helpfull friends such as yourself, I feel that I am not alone anymore and have someone to talk to about it.
Thanks again Dawn, I will ask about Mood Stabilizers as well.
God Bless you
Neil
Brother Neil:

You have a great heart for humility and honesty and a love for the Lord. I've been through it most of my life and now am on the other side. What I can share with you is at my website www.LifeUnderGrace.com - you can even email me through my website. The reality of victory is CHRIST IN YOU, your identify in God's eyes.

Bob
Thanks Bob, I will look at your website with great interest
Dear Neil,
You need never feel alone my friend...you have found a kind, friendly, supportive and understanding place. I think we all have those times..."just woke up...can't wait for bedtime" (sad but true). There are many reasons they're either in the mind (thoughts, circumstances, problems), or chemical. I believe more often than not...it is the enemy twisting our perception of thoughts, circumstances, and problems. Sometimes it can be God trying to get our attention about something.
You said "many other people have so many greater problems" and they may...look at those to put your problems into perspective...however your problems are just as important.
You also said "you feel the power of darkness gathering around you and feel so frightened"...
Fear....the Lord has taught me a huge lesson on fear within the last week or so...and I am hoping somehow this will be a blessing to you. I've lived way too many years in fear, because of a situation fear has been the underlying feeling of my days. Even while praying: "Im afraid, what do I do" "I'm afraid, help me"....The Lord showed me "I didn't give you the spirit of fear"....I kept praying and listening. I have thought of fear as being "in" me, a part of me....what I "really understood" is the spirit of fear is a seperate entity from myself and it's a spirit from the enemy. I've been told fear isn't from God by people and I've known it...but there was something about this particular day that made everything click. I have now seperated fear from myself.

Psalms:16:8
I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Hebrews 12:2
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Ephesians l:17-19
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
You will be in my prayers and I believe if not for your circumstances you wouldn't have found this site. You have something very valuable, something God has given you something nobody else has and something nobody else can do. Why feel greedy while praying for help? God will not help unless you ask, God will not take what you don't give up. He is waiting...give it all to Him, he wants you to give him your problems so He can turn them into good. Remember He won't take anything....unless you give it to him:)
God Bless You and as I said you will be in my prayers...your family also.
p.s. The way out....is to look up:)
In Christ,
Debbie
Dear Debbie,
thanks so much for your response to my mail on depression. God does work in strange ways and you are so right that if I hadn't been suffering this depression I may well not have found this site. I never thought that I would discover so many caring people like yourself, and can honestly say that it has lifted my spirits so much.
I accept these times as a test of my resolve and faith and find that chatting to God whilst I am working makes me feel a lot better, but anybody listening will peobably think that I have lost my marbles, which makes it even more fun. Thanks so much for your kind words and advice
May God Bless you
Neil
I don't know if this will help, but the Founders of our Country gave up so much for us that many died in poverty. Poverty is no disgrace. Jesus said there would always be poor people. You have to keep reading Matthew 5 & 6. We are commanded not to worry about food, clothing & money. We must obey Jesus in this, because money is an up & down proposition. Sometimes we have enough & sometimes we don't, but we must be joyful & thankful even when we are depressed. It lightens the depression & one day the sun is bright and so is our outlook. Money won't save us, can't resurrect us & neither can popularity, great health & a cheerful mind. Only Jesus Christ can save us & give us new life & Jesus is a good place to begin our Thanksgiving Holiday for 2010!! Jesus is the WAY out, up & towards renewal.
