There are alsorts of reasons why we need to cover, hoever, I rely only on what scripture reveals to and what revelation comes from the Holy Spirit, I just pray that more ladies will see it the way God sees it and not as opression.

be blessed

May the Peace of our Lord be with all of you,

I have found an AWESOME promise in this scripture that applies to us if we are obedient with regard to the Covering,

1 Corinthians 11:6-12
6For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
7For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
8For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
9Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
10For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
12For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

We see that for a woman to leave her head uncovered while praying or prophesying is a dishonor to her spiritual head (her husband, according to verse 3). Why? She dishonors her husband to God, because that which is a glory to man needs to be covered in God's presence so that God receives all the glory.
Verse 6 explains that if a woman takes off one covering (the cloth one), her natural covering of hair should also be taken away. However, says God, if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair shorn (this is talking about cutting the hair very close, in the same way that a sheep is shorn), then she should cover her head. So this leaves us with two options: either a woman cover her head, or have nothing but very short stubble on her head. These verses explain that a woman covering her head does not make her inferior to men. Men and women are equal in value. Without men, no girls would be born. Without women, no boys would be born. Both men and women are needed to keep the earth populated. However, men have authority over women, and women are not to exercise authority over men. A married woman is supposed to submit to her husband (Ephesians 5). But God uses six verses to ensure that we know all are equal in God's kingdom.
We also see from verse 10 that the covering is a sign to the angels, both good and bad. "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels." This verse has caused a lot of weird reasoning – that it really is talking about men (instead of angels), or that the angels would be shocked to see an uncovered woman, or some other explanation of like caliber. However, I believe it is very simple. The head covering is a sign to both angels and demons that this woman is submitted to her husband and God, and is a Christian. Angels are not all-knowing. A head covering shows them that this woman is to be protected. It also shows the demons that they'd better get lost. Furthermore, it offers protection for the woman's family.

I agree whole heartedly there is nothing that should be excluded and the Whole Word is applicable and relevant, I cannot just pull out scriptures that I agree with and forget the rest. This is something i find so scarey about "christians" and I am finding it more and more on the net and on so called gospel TV people twist the word to fit in with their own views and that is really scarey. I have a prophecy in this regard and should publish it on the web.

Be Blessed and keep on covering for our Lord

I have had some supposedly spiritual women get downright offended at the fact that I cover!
If we canot accept 1 Corinthians 11 and 1 Tiimothy 2:12 then we cannot accept John 3:16 either...

The word tells us that He will lead us into ALL truth and if we spend time to meditate on the Word and Listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, we will be set free to follow after the Master with our whole hearts. Some people see this as being legalistic and old testement, however, ALL of the word is relevant if we are to be true disciples, regardless of what the world tells us we are set apart and the word tells us that even though we live in this world we are not to be part of it, in other words not to follow after the practices and fads dictated by fashion fundies and so called social guru's etc. The word tells us that we are a Royal Priesthood a Peculiar People so we need to be different and to stand out so people can see that we are different

Be Blessed Women of Worth and stand tall in the sure knowledge of the Love, Grace and Salvation of the Lord Jesus

Hi Miclelle,

Thanks for the site really interesting so many things we are not taught, and really good information. I was not taught in my church or anywhere else about covering, The Holy Spirit impressed on my mind that I need to cover up and wear linnen garments that was how I started, under His gguidance and He showed me what was acceptable and which coverings to use and with trial and error I eventually settled on a dress code that made my spirit feel comfortable and at peace.

May the Grace of the Lord be with all of you

I cover all the time, except for during the night (I have heard of some women who wear a covering in their sleep, I don't know of one that will stay on).

At the bottom of that article are links to other interesting articles, such as on myths about the headcovering and on colors and styles (bottom line on that, whatever covering you like, Scripture does not specify type or color).
I wear a bandanna, some women use very broad headbands, some wear snoods - even a ballcap is acceptable if that's your style! (Ballcaps don't seem very ladylike to me, but if you're going to a game, or just washed your hear and need to pray, it works)

I wear a covering, not because of what I read in the Old Testament, but the new testament - in First Corinthians chapter 11.
And I am married. I was reading this in Scripture and felt the leading to start covering. My husband says if I am being obedient to scripture, he is 100% supportive of what I am doing.

Hi Debbie,

My Lord also requires me to wear linnen garments and to cover my Head when Prophecying, Worshiping or Praying, People think i'm barmy but I regard it as an honor for my Lord, as He has ssen fit to set me apart in this way, I do not have a husband so My Lord is also my Husband as in Isaiah 54.

be Blessed
