Many forget that Jesus once served as a one - man jury on a death - penalty case .

In a famous New Testament story , an adulterous women was dragged to Jesus

feet . The women was guilty of a capital offense and had been caught in the act by

at least one witness . The law mandated her death , but precribec a different response

" Let whoever is without sin cast the first stone . " He was teaching that only a perfect

being - only God - should have the power on death and life .

Yes very true

I believe only God has the right to take a life

Well said Chip , amen
If we say that God is in control (another topic I may post), and acknowledge that God placed rulers in authority as the Word says, then all we can do is pray God's will be done. I've heard quite a few stories of convicts turning to Christ and leading other inmates to Him. Remember Paul was in prison but for a purpose of spreading the gospel there.
God said vegeance was his, and Jesus said to forgive, love your enemy, and turn the other cheek. No, I don't believe God approves of the death penalty. There is no redemption for the dead, but it can come to those in prison.
Exodus 21:12
“Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death.

Exodus 21:17
“Whoever curses his father or his mother shall be put to death.

Exodus 21:16
“Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.

Exodus 21:15
“Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death.

Numbers 35:16
“But if he struck him down with an iron object, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death.

Leviticus 20:27
“A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.”

Should anyone say "But that's the Old Testament...."

Romans 13:1-4
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.

1 Peter 2:14
Or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.

Yes we're to be forgiving but even as forgiving as God is, He destroyed those cities that refused to follow Him. He was merciful to send prophets to warn them but they did not listen and the ultimate wages of sin is death.

Paul was arrested and was not against the death penalty.

Acts 24:10-11
If then I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything for which I deserve to die, I do not seek to escape death. But if there is nothing to their charges against me, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar.”

Acts 7:54

As Stephen laid the blame for the slaying of Christ squarely on them, the members of the council began to murmur. Finally under heavy conviction, they interrupted his sermon and rushed on him in preparation to stone him. They were so angry at him that they literally gnashed their teeth like ravenous beasts, There was no recognition of the fact that the Sanhedrin did not have the power of sentencing to death. There was no judicial trial; it was martyrdom. As a Believer in Christ we are dead to sin the penalty has been paid in full by Christ Jesus. we must forgive at all times
