Why did God give gifts to the Church.

I don't like to start discussions but prefer to comment on others. However, I thought I would share this and if you disagree, please just disregard. I spent much of my time in the Charismatic/Pentecostal world and saw a few things out of whack. Here is a little on my take of the true purpose of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I could write a book on this subject and may someday. I do want to share some things and let you all knock me around a little bit. I am not knocking the gifts but believe that sometimes we can get things out of whack a little.

The very, very short answer:

He gave us gifts, so we can edify oneanother. He also gave the gifts, so we can bring him glory as we function above and beyond our human abilities.

1 Peter 4:10Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

⁴ Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; . . . ⁷ To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12:4, 7)

⁶ Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; ⁷ if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; ⁸ the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. (Romans 12:6-8)

Why did God give gifts to the Church.
