All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

We all have a specific reason why we came to God. Was it because you feared being sent to hell? Was it because you were looking for a better way? Or, was it because of His great love for humanity?

Great question Misch,

My answer here will probably not be exactly what you are looking for but bear with me since is the only one I can give. I was not looking for God in any away.

He saved me. He walked into my life and with the power of the Holy Spirit changed me. Like we see in 1 Thessalonians 1

4For we know, brothers and sistersb loved by God, that he has chosen you,  5because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.  6You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

God Chose me unto salvation, why he chose me, I do not know, other than for and by his good pleasure. The Gospel came to me through a couple of testimonial books in the form of short novels with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. Conviction strong enough to drop me to my knees sobbing like a child. A power in the Holy Spirit powerful enough to break through all my resistance and lead me to cry out "I am sorry, I am sorry for all I done." I was not seeking God, bur He was pursuing me. My circumstances were the appropriates ones for me to want him, but they did not of themselves bring me to Christ.

It was the Father that brought me to Jesus and at his feet I could do nothing but repent and rejoice at a marvelous salvation.

David Velasquez,

I am freaking jealous. Glad for you but still I am jealous,

Janie,

What in the world are you Jealous about beloved? The same salvation I have is the one you have. In Christ we are one in the Spirit sis :)

Mr D, Maybe "Jealous" isn't the word I should have used. I just had a spur of the moment of the grrrrrrrrrrrrs while reading your post. So since I was growling I just figured it was jealousy.  =D. Its all good.

I do believe that no one can know the Lord unless He calls them.

Janie - Love you sis. You are very beautiful. One day in heaven and/or on the new heaven and earth we will visit.

Hi David, God bless you!

I can relate to what you said about resistance. A Christian I know tells how he hung around Christians and just never accepted Jesus. Childhood friends just kept talking about Jesus. He said one day he was fed up with hearing about Jesus and asked what is it you want from me! Why do you keep telling me about this Jesus! If you knew Ray, he's this burly guy and tough. He was probably pretty intimidating in his unChristian days. His friend recited Romans 10:9,10. To hear his story about how he fought and held out and that moment. This is what Jesus wants. He wants us to believe and to be saved.

Love,

Mary

:) Love to you Mary. We have a beautiful God.

HE DID.

I am not sure you know much of my testimony.  I was a born and breed Catholic in the mid 70's, during the Spirit movement.  My parents first got into it, I was right with them I was 15.  A priest taught us about accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour, along with others laying hands on us for being Baptized in Holy Spirit, with the evidence of  speaking in Tongues.  Just as it speaks of in The Word.  I saw The Light and was forever changed.  Now a great many people have trouble with that.  I judge NO ONE.  It is just how it happened for me.

Now I have Never been perfect.  I have failed many, many times.  The reason I just said HE DID, was that I was Called.  I never feared hell. (apart of Catholic teaching and school).  I just always see how things happened to me, as a Gift.  I operate in many Gifts at times, NEVER, NEVER, for or of my own. I just have always heard Holy Spirit, Jesus, and The Father, or GOD.  It took me a long time to know not everybody does.  I thought and still do, if He can reach me, He can reach anyone.  The biggest reason for that is, I was never taught anything against Holy Spirit or speaking in tongues.  It just has been apart of me since I was 15.

My parents and others went back to the Catholic Church.  I left because not long after I received the Holy Spirit, the Church stopped most all of that.  I have had to stand my ground many times, with others.  I have been a outcast many times.  Not because I did anything out of line in a Service.  But that is another story all to itself.  I hope I answered so to explain.

I think this is a most Wonderful question. And, I thank you for asking more about it all.  God Bless you my Sister.

Chris,

Has anyone ever told you why they have a problem with your born again experience? I think is a beautiful story.

What he did on the cross brought me to him. How I got there involved lots of questions and lots of looking at myself before I acknowledged that it really did happen.

Grazer,

I really like how you phrased that. Pretty cool how there is diversity even in our born again experiences. Of course the same work is happening inside of us, but there is a difference on the outer experience.
