All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Friends, Today I was reading my bible and this verse jumped out at me.

(2 Timothy 4:2,3,4)

v2: Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

v3: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires.

v4: And will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

This brings to mind how some preachers today refuse to teach sound doctrine. They fear confrontation and criticism. They prefer to teach a feel good gospel, about the blessings for health and wealth. They teach Jesus came so that we may prosper through His blessings.         Many believers today, tend to follow these preachers in droves. Mainly because they make them feel good about themselves. You can see this happening in the mega churches of today.

These preachers teach false ideologies, viewpoints, and philosophies to oppose sound doctrine.

Most of the believers in those mega churches don,t even know what doctrine is.

I hear a lot of Christians today say that they don't need doctrine, that we should concentrate in fellowship and worship. They say doctrine only brings division.

You know what I think. I believe we need to study sound doctrine in order to learn and grow in our spiritual life.  Sound biblical doctrine is the truth about our faith, It's divine truth.

What do you think about this? Should we study sound biblical doctrine? Should we ignore it and fellowship and worship? Why?

Raul,

The word doctrine simply means teaching. When one says they do not need doctrine they are in essence saying that they do not need to learn.

If a teacher does not teach sound doctrine as a whole, they should not only not be teaching ... they should not be listened to either. The key to this question is "What is sound doctrine?" It must be Bibical teaching presented in context. We also recognize that there are some subjects that are absolutely central to the faith and some that are not as valuable and even allow for some varying views. Romans 14 talks about debatable matters. There are some things that are not 100% clear to us. Thus, we end up with several views on certain subjects. Many of these varied views deal with the final stages of the end times. There are many who love Jesus and disagree on some topics. Note Philippians 3:15-16.

Lord Bless,

Raul,

I believe you are right on both views. There are many people who ignore sound teaching and thus they are tossed back and forth by the wind. There are many so-called teachers who teach anything but Scripture. These teachers will toss in a verse or two, but their message really has nothing to do with expounding biblical truth.

LT

hi Raul

the bible says study to show yourself approved by God rightfully dividing the word of God, this is a great help for us this way we are not subject to everything we hear from a preacher, we can take the good and reject the bad, but we must search completly asking the Holy Spirit to guide us, so lets suppose someone disagrees with what i say, the scriptures says,  then  i must be able to show them the reason for my belief, example i heard a preacher preach a serman that was totally one sided, after the service i spoke with him and said what about these other scriptures, he said i never thought of it that way i'll look into it, he could have said get out of my face, as the denomation had there established doctrine which he was preaching, but he was a man of God and was willing to look into it, thus if i am "challanged" i must look into it again and be able to show i am right or change my opinion because of something i hadn't seen before, one danger is that application gets preached as scripture, example i was in a church, they were going to kick the pastor out,( a small group didn't like him) from years earlier, nothing to do with me, on the night this was to take place i was getting a ride with my friend so i was reading in Isa. "it will not take place" (for fun look it up) it has nothing to do with kicking a pastor out of a church, but God used that portion of scripture to tell me it wouldn't happen and sure enough at the last monent one of the head people stood up and said these who are trying to remove the pastor did something wrong according to there constitution night closed go home, it's a long story but short form they never kicked him out and the ones who wanted to do it were gone in 3 months, now if i said you cannot remove a pastor according to this scripture i would be wrong as i would be speaking application that God used to show me in a specific incidence, you also say, you want to experence God it's easy, walk on water, you now say, ok, this guy isn't playing with a full deck, or he is a few bricks short of a load, but i say, peter walked on water, yes that is true, but what was his reason? his reason was obedence God Almighty in the flesh as Jesus said come, peter obeyed amd walked on water, the key isn't walking on water the kee is obedence, when God speaks to you just simply obey, sometimes that will also involve waiting for the right timing, when we here Gods voice and step out to obey we will usually be amased at thoes who come against us, because many want a statise quo religion and not a radical relationship as we should have, think of it this way God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, in pefect harmony, enjoyment, etc. throughout eternity, create the earth, and mankind, man blows it, and sins,  The Father says, Son will you go down and suffer there punishment for them, so if they come to you, I, can forgive them, totally radical, Jesus is in complete confort, with more than we can even emagine, and to go and suffer for something he didn't do, many would say Not, I, but Jesus obeyed and look at the results, he showed us the key to walking on water, as charles stanley says "obey God and leave all the consequences to Him," i hope this helps you

Great topic Raul,

How important is Doctrine and what is it?

http://www.allaboutgod.net/forum/topics/how-important-is-doctrine-and

What is the Christian authority for doctrine?

Why do so many in the household of our Lord shy away from the word Doctrine? What comes to your mind when you think of doctrine? Are doctrines manmade?

>>"Divisions and separations are most objectionable in religion. They weaken the cause of true Christianity.- But before we blame people for them, we must be careful that we lay the blame where it is deserved. False doctrine and heresy are even worse than schism. If people separate themselves from teaching which is positively false and unscriptural, they ought to be praised rather than reproved. In such cases separation is a virtue and not a sin.

The old saying must never be forgotten, "He is the schismatic (a participant in or cause of a schism/division) who causes the schism"... Controversy in religion is a hateful thing... But there is one thing which is even worse than controversy, and that is false doctrine, allowed, and permitted without protest or molestation. ... " Iain Murray . . .</ P <>

Some among the Family of Christ feel doctrine is not important or maybe that is not the most important thing in our Christian life. They claimed love is above all. I agree that love is our highest calling and that we can have all the right doctrines and not have love, which is a travesty, but without the right doctrines/belief, we cannot love God or our neighbor according to God's will. God gave us intelligence, the ability to reason and the ability to choose. We are to love Him with our whole mind, so why would we neglect loving Him according to His will (His word), His doctrines?

If we believe erroneous doctrines we will practice the wrong attitudes and beliefs.

Mattew 16:12 (New King James Version) 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees

Act 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Rom 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

1Ti 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.  1 Timothy
