All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

i encourage all to start a food and water supply besides their normal food shopping. food shortages may be ahead, but i think that it will become so high in price, even a loaf of bread. also, stock up on some other items like medical kits, emergency candles, etc. so when the dollar collapses totally, what are we going to buy food with? its good to have xtra. God wants His people prepared and ready for the trying times ahead. you dont want to be one of those out in the store fighting off other people for water and food supplies at the last minute. also, you may want to get even xtra for family and friends that wont prepare for themselves. dollar stores have some good bargains. what do you think about this?

Carla I have pet ratties and Im here to tell you that rats and their lil cousins can chew thru plastic in fact the only thing rats can't chew thru is stainless steel....just thought I'd let you know....

Thanks Penny..  yikes!  good to know..

does this go for mice too?

I'm not real sure about mice and their chewing capabilities but being close cousins to rats I would say yes. Just a FYI as well rats carry active salmonella in their digestive system....thats why they can eat what they do and not get sick.....isn't God creative? The lowly hated rat has been around for centuries....also it is said if a rat won't eat it humans shouldn't eat it....mine do not care for Mcdonalds french fries....
Good to know Penny..  I would have to agree about the french fries. :-)
This topic has been on my mind for a while.  I generally do not talk about it because I don't want people to think that I am a nut.  Remember the 2000 scare with computers. Nothing happened.  However, I believe this is different.  We have preparred somewhat but what about government run programs.  Nursing homes, orphanages.  If this thing falls apart completely there will be many needs and few resourses.  And we will still have to stand before a Holy God regardless of the insanity that might go on around us.  Christians own Europe during the plague because of the care they took of the sick.  This could be our turn to win our nation back to Christ or forever loose it, depending upon our actions.
I work at a retirement home and we do have emergancy supplies (it is required by state law) but only for 3 days. I believe it will be indeed up to we believers to help out when this earthly government collapses. You make a good point Michael.

(Example of earth built house built for $5k in Wales a few years back-more details on main photo in my photos).

Ah, I see this topic is still active.

From March 2 to April 2nd Anna and I did a barebones backpack trip deep into the Wayne National Forest as my annual pre-birthday and spring "time of testing" and self-evaluation; plus she had never been camping except for a weekend in nice weather with all the usual camping gear.

During our 1 month "retreat" in the deep woods, once we got about 100 miles in, day 5 through 10 using a hand axe, a hand drill for peg joining, and my old Marine collapsible shovel, we built a 8x15 foot version of a hobbit house like pictured above with 7 foot ceiling, a 2 foot square fireplace built from fieldstone, and four 1 foot pieces of Plexiglas for windows: we were quite comfortable in 22-45 degree outside temperature,

We had packed in 10 pounds of rice, beans, 20 pounds of potatoes and flour, 5lbs of coffee, 2 boxes of tea bags, 5 lbs instant milk (ick), 4lbs of sugar and salt,  couple cans of pepper, various favorite spices I gained 3 pounds, Anna 2.  We carried a total of 75 lbs. between us, could easily have doubled the weight but wanted to give Anna a taste of "primitive" living like the colonists/pioneers where it was 1 man and 1 woman and a wagon of basic supplies, their faith in each other and God, and a lot of hard work and cooperation versus nature.

Unfortunately due to the heavy agribusiness in the region, we were limited to 2 meals of fish each week due to mercury levels, et.al; Anna did learn to ice fish, catch rabbits with snares, and I took one deer with my recurve bow.

Wrong time of year for foraging native edible/medicinal plants except wild onions (which helped flavor stews).

We very much enjoyed the night of the meton full moon.

I tested out several other bronze/iron age techniques, including bronze smelting, wood fired river clay pottery, tanning, making deer hide parchment and other artesian techniques of the bronze/early iron to refresh my memory and give Anna insight into human prehistory.

When weather gets warm, we'll do this again when God has made the earth more bountiful in unspoiled areas; this year at the cabin I want to explore the entire process of making linen by the low tech methods used in Old Testament through early medieval times (pretty much unchanged during this timeframe).

Coming back to "civilization" and reading about the mess in Japan, Charlie Sheen and the near worship over other "beautiful people" like him; the continuing mid-east fun and games, $10.8 billion for the NCAA basketball tournament; her comment was "ick" why would any intelligent life-form want to have contact with humans?

As some of the recent posts have pointed out, the main problem when there are social disruptions and collapses, is of the two-legged nature; much of human history of survival and nation building is based on taking what you need from others, not using your own God-given skills and sweat from your own hands.

Anyway, it is good to see this topic being treated thoughfully.

ps. Do not try to simply go out in the woods and try this, unless you really know what you are doing.

pss. And, yes, the first thing we did getting home was having a very nice dinner in the hot tub; ice cold creek water or a sponge bath just doesn't get it for me at all.

God bless an keep you all!

Cute picture reminds me of a hobbit house! Life as we know it will certainly change when the government falls. And we all know its going to we just don't know when. I'm thankful we live by the river here in Oregon.
