  • What do you mean, more specifically?
  • Are you asking whether or not Christians are bound by the rituals, practices and traditions of the Mosaic covenant?
  • Are you asking if the Old Testament has any relevance or significance for Christians?

For Christians, all 66 books of the Bible, from Genesis through Revelation, Old Testament and New Testament writings alike, are sacred scripture.  By sacred scripture, I mean the uniquely inspired and reliable Word of God that contains all of the things that we need to know for our salvation, including guidelines for our belief, worship and behavior.

The Old Testament is foundational.  It tells us that there is only one God, the creator of all things, and it tells of the prophecies and preparations that were made for the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The New Testament is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, and it tells the story of Christ's birth, his life and ministry, his death, resurrection and ascension, and the growth of the early church.  Accordingly, one cannot fully understand and grasp the significance of the New Testament--in particular, our need for a savior, Jesus the Christ--without being grounded in the Old Testament.

As Christians, we accept the Old Testament as authoritative, but interpret it in the light of Jesus' teachings.  Jesus, the Son of God, is the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and the mediator of God's "new covenant," which was sealed with his death on the cross (Luke 24:44Rom. 3:21-22; Heb. 1:1-3)

Excellent Colby. It is always good to see you around.

Dan, my brother-

God speaks to us every time we read his written revelation, His Word. No one who has read the word can say that God has never spoken to them. Hence the entire counsel of God is his will for us and it should be study.

Often the N.T. calls upon us to live a certain way and the O.T. has the stories how that looks practically.

The Word states that we should walk by faith in both Old and New Testament. We see examples of that in both Old and New Testament, but the longer stories of how that looks are found in the O.T.

Blessings

Thank you, David.

Thanks Colby I agree to the fact that Old Testament is foundational and it tells of the prophecies and preparations that were made for the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ but Christ came he gave us the gift of salvation but why people again call Abraham as their father , and pray to like God Bless me like David give me wisdom like Solomon , when Christ assured ask for the Holy spirit and it will be given to you ...

Hi Dan,

Good  subject matter you have going here.

And you've got some Biblical All Stars (Colby and David) on the field.

One thing jumped out at me - "but why people again call Abraham as their father"

I believe the answer is found in Galatians 3:29, " And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise."

It's all part of the package deal - Jews and Gentiles, God's original plan, together in Heaven.

Amen.
