All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Do we relate to the word of our Lord Jesus when He said to "Love thy neighbor" and further explained who our neighbor was? Our neighbor is the person in most need of our care and affection. Love through prayer is how to reach many that are otherwise unreachable. For those that we can reach in person, show your love and affection through your actions. You are the message.

Hi Stew,

I was wondering how often such an important message in God's Word would appear in scripture..so I looked it up. In the KJV I found 8 times by the 'Blue Letter Bible'. I didn't know it was also in the OT....But Our Lord is the same, Yesterday, Today and Forever... :)

Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD.

NT
Mat 5:43,44
Mat 19:19
Mat 22:39
Mar 12:31
Luk 10:27
Rom 13:9
Gal 5:14
Jam 2:8

Love thy neighbour Also goes directly with 1 Corinthians 13---God is really teaching me this lately...It is coming up everywhere for me.. (Even billboard signs on the highway-- LOL--no just kidding). But truly, What an important lesson.

1Cr 13:1 If I could speak in any language in heaven or on earth [fn] but didn't love others, I would only be making meaningless noise like a loud gong or a clanging cymbal.
1Cr 13:2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I knew all the mysteries of the future and knew everything about everything, but didn't love others, what good would I be? And if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, without love I would be no good to anybody.
1Cr 13:3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; [fn] but if I didn't love others, I would be of no value whatsoever.
1Cr 13:4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
1Cr 13:5 or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.
1Cr 13:6 It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
1Cr 13:7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1Cr 13:8 Love will last forever, but prophecy and speaking in unknown languages [fn] and special knowledge will all disappear.
1Cr 13:9 Now we know only a little, and even the gift of prophecy reveals little!
1Cr 13:10 But when the end comes, these special gifts will all disappear.
1Cr 13:11 It's like this: When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.
1Cr 13:12 Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. [fn] All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now.
1Cr 13:13 There are three things that will endure--faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love.

What would Christianity look like if we all truly lived this out. God's Love for people!!! It can't be our Love, it has to be His...Isn't that amazing!

So then we move to 'Love thy neighbour as thyself"....

We must take the first step out in faith. Because in the flesh we don't know how to do it. We need to have God's heart for the lost, the broken, ....for our neighbour! GOD HELP US!

Love in Christ (I say that all the time...but God is teaching me what that means),
Carla.
So true Carla,

What a wonderful discovery of supporting scripture. Love is the key.

Blessings, -Stew
Does that mean I have to love my brother too even though he annoys me soooooooooo much???
Hi Rox...

hahaha.. yes even your brother!
Blessings, Carla
Do I have to also love teacher I apsolutally hate at college????/
I think you already know the answer! :)
I have this one tutor and I hate her soooooooooo much she is so horrble to me she treats me like a small child I feel so young as if I don`t know how to use a computer a printer or a fax machine or a telephone
Loving thy "difficult" neighbor is so representative of the "narrow path" we are called to follow. Sometimes the most difficult to love are those that are closest to us. To love is work. Love is an act that we do by choice. God is love.
Hi Stew and Roxliverpoolfan,

I agree with what Stew has said here.. Also, we have to remember God's Grace towards us.. Rom 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Italics mine

We also need to remember that each one of us is more than capable of being 'thy difficult neighbour'...
What does Jesus mean love your neighbour????
So you mean I have to love my enemy even a gir who is in my college???? and I have t also love my worst tutor??? and I have to love my dad and my mum even when they are so horrible to me????
