Joshua 6:15-19

KJV 15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. 16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city. 17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.

The New Jerusalem Bible

Joshua 6:15-19

6:15 On the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched (in the same manner) round the city seven times. (This was the only day when they marched round the city seven times.)
6:16
At the seventh time, the priests blew their trumpets and Joshua said to the people, 'Raise the war cry, for Yahweh has given you the city!
6:17
'The city and everyone in it must be devoted to Yahweh under the curse of destruction; the life of Rahab the prostitute alone must be spared, with all those with her in her house, since she hid the messengers we sent.
6:18
But beware of the curse of destruction, yourselves, for fear that, moved by greed, you take something lying under the curse; that would put the camp of Israel under the same curse and bring disaster on it.
6:19 All the silver and all the gold, everything made of bronze or iron, will be consecrated to Yahweh and put in his treasury.'

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

15 They marched around the city seven times this would have took more time then going around it once, they had to do more of what was not having results but God had them do this out of faith and after six days of nothing happening God wanted the most from them for their faith to be shown, God is this way with us, when we are about to give up He expects the most out of us.

16 They had faith that God would give them the city otherwise they would not have kept walking around the city.

17 They would spare Rehab because of her faith which was shown by her saving them, Christ would be a descendent of hers. They knew that God’s judgment had come on the city of Jericho; it was not just them gaining the land but God condemning them for their wicked ways so they can inherit their land.

18 They were not to take anything for themselves, this was not always the case but it was here and they needed to listen to it, them taking things when God told them not to made it greed.

19 Everything was to be given to the Lord and set a part for Him, we are to give things to the Lord and not keep everything for ourselves if God requests us to give Him everything then that is what we are to do by faith. This made them keeping something themselves not only an act of greed but thief from the Lord.

What has walking around the city got to do with taking the city? Nothing. It's simply an act of faith.

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. (1 Corinthians 1:27)

I had an incident where I prayed for someone who had a demon. She was unconscious, feverish and the demon was grinning at me. I knew what was going on. You should know other people were present including her husband. That's all I'm going to say. I was hoping for some ice to cool her down. They had a grapefruit. God said...That's it. I prayed for her touching a grapefruit to her skin. She woke up. Why did it work? It took me a while to figure it out. The demons didn't know what to do with it. It was foolish to them and made no sense. They were completely puzzled and got booted out. You're going to pray for her with a grapefruit! You can't do that! It was trusting what God said to me was true.

To take the city, one had to be able to infiltrate it. Thus, the walls coming down meant the destruction of the city, as seen elsewhere in scripture concerning the idea of tearing down a city's walls.

And I will break down the wall that you have smeared with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the LORD. Ezekiel 13:14, ESV

Do you suppose the residents of the city were standing around the walls watching Israel march around the city? What good does it do to march around a city? Anyone have an idea what the walls would have looked like? I thought maybe the residents were looking down and laughing or jeering. This reality show I saw, the residents threw eggs out their window, over a balcony and hit a contestant with them. I figure there may have been obnoxious and discouraging behavior towards God's people. I'm trying to visualize what it might have been like. Would you think, just keep walking, God said seven times. What day are we on? My brain would be working and counting.

Great verse, Amanda.  If God decides to take down a wall, it's not going to stand.

Love,

Mary
