All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

The other day I was on "The Bible" group page on facebook. If you go there, expect to see a lot of athiest and agnostics there trying to tear down Christianity. But anyway, I was there and one guy made the comment about Osirus and the similarities between Osiris and Jesus. He made the comment that the Osiris story was here long before Jesus, about 1200 years. His point was that he believed that the story of Jesus was actually copied from the Osirus story. He went on to say that there arr too many things that are the same, so he could not believe the story of Jesus.

Here are the simularities

Similarities Between Osiris and Jesus Christ

In the Ptolemaic Period, the cult of Serapis was reinvented based on the myth of Osiris
Early Christians in Egypt identified Christ with Serapis, renamed their god to Jesus, and continued their worship as usual

  1. Osiris before death was titled " The Good Shepherd", and Jesus Christ is a shepherd to his followers
  2. Both Osiris and Jesus were killed by treachery from close relationships, Seth and Judas respectively
  3. Osiris and Jesus both suffered a painful death, with sacrifices that were gloomy, solemn, and mournful
  4. The symbol of Osiris was the Djed, which resembles a cruciform form similar to the Cross of Jesus
  5. Both Osiris and Jesus Christ were briefly resurrected, Jesus resurrected after three days of his death and Osiris by the magical spell of Isis
  6. Osiris' and Jesus resurrections served to provide hope to all that they may do likewise and become eternal.
  7. After their respective deaths, both gods became kings in the afterlife, Osiris being the "Lord of the Underworld" and Jesus Christ the "King of Heaven"
  8. They both perform the final judgment of the dead, to decide who should join their Kingdoms and be granted eternal life.

So the reason that I brought this up was to get your opinions on how to handle this topic. How do you explain the differences that make Jesus' story the one that is real. How do you explain away the Orisis story and its simularities?

Hey Rodney,

There are several things I will point out regarding this.

God created the heavens and the earth. He created all things seen and unseen. This includes the angels and the fallen angels. The Bible tells us that Jesus was slain from the creation of the world (Rev. 13:8). What Jesus was going to do in the flesh had long since been planned and made known before He ever fulfilled it in linear time. The enemy knew this and has made a strategic attempt to cast doubt on the truth. There are many illustrations of events that parallel the Word of God. God does not live in time as we know time and God does not answer to man. These examples found around the world are the actual copies even though they may predate in linear time the physical death and resurrection of Jesus. In other words the enemy has sown seed amongst the good seed that grows together with the good seed that will cause many to falter or doubt. These stories are planted in history past and used by many to try and disprove God and Jesus. Man cannot know Jesus by history or intellect alone. If the Holy Spirit does not open ones eyes and bring new birth we would remain lost as we were before and doubt anything that is of God and His kingdom. These people think we are being fooled when in fact they are blind to the truth and reject that which is before them.

To debate them is a waste of time, lest the Holy Spirit convicts them regarding the truth.

1CO 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

1CO 1:20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

I do not believe in Jesus simply because someone told me about Him or even because it made sense. I believe because the Holy Spirit has opened my eyes and convinced me of the truth regarding the Son fo God and His sacrifice for all who will come to believe. Some would call this blind faith ... I call it Spirit led faith.

Lord Bless,
LT
I put this separately because it is of most importance. The account of Jesus is not myth ... HE LIVES. If He were still in the grave we would have ever reason to be pitied more than all people.

1 Cor. 15

Lord Bless,

Another thing worth noting. Man is pretty arrogant. We assume the battle is fought by our rules within our understanding. Man assumes the spiritual is a shadow of the physical, meaning that the physical is the true reality. Just the oppisite is true. The physical is a shadow of the spiritual and the war is fought by spiritual rules against spiritual forces with spiritual understanding.

EPH 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Lord Bless,

Thanks LT,
I really appreciate all the information that you gave. It is the sound information that I was hoping for. It will not only help if I ever need to discuss this with someone, bt it has helped me on a personal level as well. I have written the verses down and will continue to study them.
And you are so right, no-on can be convinced unless they convicted by the Holy Spirit.
Thank you so much.
You are welcome brother. The enemy is a master at copycat tactics.

He masquerades as an angel of light. (2 Cor. 11:14)
He performs conterfeit miracles. (2 Th. 2:9)
He seeks to deceive people and lead them astray. (2 Th. 2:10-12)

Lord Bless,

More awesome verses. Thanks again for your help. I really do appreciate it. You should be thankful that I don't live too close. I am guessing that I would be picking your brain quite often. LOL
Check this discussion out it dealt with similar issues.

Thanks David for reminding of that discussion. It is obvious that you have put a lot of work into that. And It is a great help. I feel very fortunate to be here at AAG with all the wonderful, helpful people here. You and LT hit the nail right on the head. :)

IMO, you can debate as much as you have strength for with unbelievers, but you won't win. You won't persuade. Only God can do that....not man. And here's why...
1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned
Fix you,

I understand what you are sharing with Rodney. We agree that is the Holy Spirit that regenerates and convicts people, but consider these scriptures:

Luke 16:31
But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

Acts 14:19
[ Stoning, Escape to Derbe ] Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.

Acts 17:4
And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas

God uses us to persuade :)

Acts 18:4
And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

Acts 26:28
Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.”

There is a difference here, which most Christians do not appear to understand.

All these scriptures refer to preaching to those who are already God's people, Israel, the Jews and some of the tribes of Benjamin and Levi, to whom the Law was given some 1,500 years previously. They were already the covenant people, they already recognised God, they just needed persuasion that the long-awaited and expected Messiah was really Yeshua. That He was in fact who He claimed to be.

It was also within the context of God's will to establish the early church, with all the supernatural signs, miracles and gifts going on.

This is a totally different situation to that of today.
Hi Fix,
Something I would like to add.

If I want to tell someone about God and they don't receive it, they are the loser....I have already won.

Also, most of Christ's teaching was to the lost sheep of the house of Israel...however...because Jerusalem was a major trade city, I think there were many who weren't Jews that heard his words. And understood and believed.

Even today, Israel is a nation made up of people, some of which are still waiting for the Messiah. Some have dropped all pretense of even waiting for the Messiah that they think hasn't arrived yet.We cannot assume that there is no power in speaking the Word so that others may learn, or all preaching would be futile.

I don't think that God calls us to get in debates with nonbelievers. However, I do know He calls us to share the Word.

I think He calls us to share with each other that we all may benefit.
