All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

How does a backslider go back to God> Especially when it seems everytime they try , it seems impossible.  No holy spirit drawing them back... does that mean they arent chosen? When they ask for comfort but instead recieve such evil , does that mean Gid is saying go away? I am in my 50s and i know my questions seem like a dumb hick  but i need to know. Thank you in advance for any replies. I know to read and pray and to repent... I just cant ever believe I am saved. My children needs a praying mom. I need to trust in God... I just have so much fear of Gods rejection.

1Jn 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Luk 15:11

Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons.

Luk 15:12

The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.

Luk 15:13

"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.

Luk 15:14

After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.

Luk 15:15

So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

Luk 15:16

He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

Luk 15:17

"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

Luk 15:18

I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.

Luk 15:19

I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.'

Luk 15:20

So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

Luk 15:21

"The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

Luk 15:22

"But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

Luk 15:23

Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.

Luk 15:24

For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.

Luk 15:25

"Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.

Luk 15:26

So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.

Luk 15:27

"Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'

Luk 15:28

"The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him.

Luk 15:29

But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.

Luk 15:30

But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'

Luk 15:31

"'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.

Luk 15:32

But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'"

>>How does a backslider go back to God:

By going back. However that going back looks does not matter, as long as the heart it's sincere, God will not despise true repentance coming from a broken heart. There was a time in my life that I had no strength to fight, no strength left in me to stand, I was drowning in the mud and I was eating the vomit God saved me from. All I could muster was: I am sorry. I am sorry Lord and He did the rest. I do not know how God is dealing with you at this particular time. There were other times I said the same words (I am sorry), but He did not respond as quickly, and He let me know that He was not playing with me. That I should not trample on the blood of Christ. There have been times that God has not responded to my cry, he heard me, but He was teaching me a lesson and reminding me not to take his grace for granted. I do not know in what period of your walk you are with God or if you are born again or not, but it sure sounds like you are to me.

>>Especially when it seems every time they try , it seems impossible.

For nothing is impossible with God."  Luke 1:37  Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son."

>>No holy spirit drawing them back... does that mean they arent chosen?

If you are speaking of someone you know, we can never know if God is calling them back or not, because we are not previewed to those matters of the heart and mind. If you are talking about yourself, well, you are here and all good things come from above. It is not your righteousness that has you here, but your Lord, who gives you the desire and the will to do.

>>When they ask for comfort but instead recieve such evil , does that mean Gid is saying go away?

Whosoever comes is welcome to come by God.

Hebrews 12

7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

>>I am in my 50s and I know my questions seem like a dumb hick  but I need to know.

We appreciate your questions and please feel free to ask all you want. I pray God leads our answers to you.

>>I just cant ever believe I am saved.

The good news is that eternal security in God does not depend on your feelings, emotions etc... but in his perfect faithfulness.

>>I just have so much fear of Gods rejection.

Perfect love casts out all fear. God is perfect love, so as you draw closer to Him, He will draw closer to you and the fear will dissipate.

Love and blessings - I will pray for you.

LT and David have given you some terrific advice, which is Scriptural.

When we are backslidden, our faith is at its lowest ebb.  Don't let your faith become shipwrecked.  Proverbs 14:14 says, "The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways, and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways."

In Jesus' Parable of the Prodigal Son, which LT posted, the Prodigal Son represents the backslider.  God is like the loving Father who waits for us with outstretched arms for our return and calls for a celebration.  As the Father tells him, "My son,  you are here with me always; everything I have is yours."  The good news for the Prodigal Son is even better news for you!  God wants you back and he will welcome you with open arms.

God won't reject you.  You think you're not trying hard enough or conversely that you're trying too hard, and that's why you haven't been able to "go back to God?"  Stop "trying."

Instead, acknowledge the reality that you are a sinner, throw yourself humbly on God's mercy, and surrender to the amazing grace of Jesus Christ, which will come down on you like a cascading waterfall of love and forgiveness.  Repent with all your heart and mind, ask the Lord to forgive your sins, believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and start bearing fruit.  Are you ready to do this?  In Christ, the Holy Scripture assures us, all things are possible.

"Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings.  Behold, we come to you; for you are the LORD our God" (Jeremiah 3:22).

3 This is good, and xit is pleasing in the sight of yGod our Savior, 4 who desires zall people to be saved and ato come to bthe knowledge of the truth.

This verse tells me that God wants all of us saved...therefore, I don't believe he rejects anyone who accepts Christ as Savior.

By your own words, you say you can't believe. Read and study God's Word which is His Will for our lives. Pray while studying. You will see the truth and believe it.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; (Psalm 103:8-13)

As far as the east is from the west, do you know how far that is?  God is rich in mercy.

You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. (Psalm 86:5)

Love,

Mary

Janie, you are not trampling on the blood of Christ or trying to engage God in playing -- that is not what was meant by those words. You are just very hurt and very sensitive from past hurts. You may say you will stop seeking God but you won't. You can't. Can't you see this? Your heart is ever turned towards God and seeking comfort and love. God is there for you but it is you, Janie, who keeps yourself from God and from His love. It is you. It is you. It is you. Please see this and please don't hate me for saying it. You just feel so worthless that you think you do not deserve the good things from God. Please don't be angry with me. Just like I told you about the nightmare.

Jesus died for you. That is love.

Amen Amanda.

Janie, you know I see you as a Sister in Jesus. I want you to reach the point where you will allow yourself to trust that God really loves you. I think you hold back because you have been so hurt by this world and it makes you afraid to risk being hurt anymore. We do battle several enemies in this life. We battle the flesh, the self, the fallen world, and satan.

When you repented and believed you were saved, you entered into a permament relationship with God. Satan would love to make you continue to live in fear but God's wrath is not for you. Nothing will cause God to stop loving you not even when you are so hurt that you feel God has abandoned you or rejected you.

That has been my biggest fear, too.

But grace is given regardless of whether I deserve it. My personality has nothing to do with it nor my works, and my failures will not cause God to withdraw His grace.

We sometimes look at people's personality, history, performance, etc...
but God does not look at merit.

Grace is freely given. The world does not operate this way but God does.

God's grace is at the point of salvation but also throughout our lives. Many hardships invade our lives. It doesn't mean God hates us. 2 Cor 4:17.

God is with you through every difficulty. I know He longs to lift these burdens from you. I don't have the answers for why you have been through so much pain. It took me awhile to accept that all the painful things that happen to us do not mean we have gotten outside of God's love.

You said:

The closer i try to get to God the bigger the battle and the more It seems the evil attacks on my mind .

That is the spiritual battle and we all are fighting it.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." -- John 16:33, NIV.

Part of Scripture about the armor of God says "above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one." (see Ephesians 6:10-18)

Those fiery darts are very painful. When our own faith gets weak, God bless the people who surround us and lift up their shields for us to help protect us from the evil.

>>He let me know that He was not playing with me. That I should not trample on the blood of Christ."

BUT HE NEVER STOPPED LOVING ME. HE NEVER STOPPED PURSUING ME AND HE BEAT ME UP WITH HIS LOVE AND NOT HIS WRATH, BUT HE DID LET ME KNOW THAT AS HIS SON, HE WOULD WOOP ME, IF I CONTINUE TO CHOOSE DARKNESS. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE HE LOVES ME SO MUCH WHEN I HAVE DONE HORRIBLE THINGS AS A BORN AGAIN CHILD OF GOD.

He let me know He was not playing with me, but He also demonstrated his incredible love for me too many times to number or mention here. I am sorry that statement caused the opposite reaction it intended to have. As we often say here - this kind of communication is difficult because most of us do not have the time to invest in them as much as we would like to and hence make statements without qualifying them or unpacking them.

Love and blessings to you

We Must Have Disasters In are life. To bild are faith and know that God Is there with us.

James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and

complete, not lacking anything".

From Mark: "The trials produce perseverance, and perseverance must have a

perfect (or complete) work. In the end, there is a time when the trial has completed its work. It’s over! It’s

time to move on! It already did what it needed to do (a complete work). It caused us to be more "mature

and complete, not lacking anything!"

*Job 7:17 "What is man, that You should exalt him, that you should set Your heart on him, that you should visit

him every morning, and test him every moment?"

From Mark: "Every morning, an examination . . . every moment testing? We must be IMPORTANT to Him!

*1st Peter 1:7 "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested

by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ".

From Mark: "Your faith is worth more than gold, and gold must be tested by fire. What is it that He is testing?

Your FAITH! Why? It is because it is worth more than gold. How are you able to move mountains? BY YOUR

FAITH! As it says in James 1:6-8, we must not doubt, for a "double-minded man (or woman) is unstable in all his

ways. We are not going to be that double-minded person!"

Love Your Brother In christ Ace

How does a backslider go back to God:

(Matthew 26:28).

In His love, God knew that our conscience needed to be freed from guilt and condemnation. He knew that forgiveness of sins was our greatest need. In the ultimate act of love, God not only suffered the pain of our wrongs, but also paid for their consequences in order that we may have forgiveness offered to us when we sin. All we need to do is to accept His free gift of forgiveness. Or maybe you are struggling with trying to forgive another for deeply hurting you. For all who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, forgiveness has been freely given. If we acknowledge our wrongs and ask for forgiveness, God will forgive us - no questions asked: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9).

xxxxxx,

I see you speaking in some of your responses about *feelings*. *Feeling* was a word I used to use frequently in my speech and writing to explain how I thought in terms of the Lord. Over time I have learned to listen to the Holy Spirit.

Feeling is one of the physical senses pertaining to the body. It is also used to explain how we think. When speaking of the spirit, we can't use this word logically because it doesn't pertain to our spirit. When we are reborn, we are a brand new creature. We have the Holy Spirit abiding in us. We don't know our spirit, because it is perfected in Christ. Before we are saved our spirit is *dead* or our spirit *sleeps*. We have to rely on our *soul* or our *mind*...what our intellect actually knows. The world frequently influences that knowledge.

Once we are saved, listening to the Holy Spirit is something we need to do. In a *saved condition* we are able to do that. We will receive instruction from Him. Our *hearing* might not be immediate. We have to study and allow Him to get through to us. As you pray and study the Word of God, you will receive knowledge. It isn't your mind telling you. It is more subtle than that. You receive the assurance of certain things you have studied and prayed about.

God isn't going to reject you. The rejection that you feel is what your mind is telling you through what it knows. The mind is not dependable in the spiritual world. It frequently feeds you wrong information as guided by your intellect. Satan has access to your mind. He doesn't have access to your spirit. God wants you to know Who He is. As you learn this, you will recognize when the Holy Spirit speaks to you and when it is Satan.

At this point, it would be a wonderful thing if you set up a study/prayer  program to further increase your knowledge of God. The Bible is filled with God's truths.

Blessings to you as you study and learn Who God is in you life....
