All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

24 This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break. 25 When the man saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!”But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 “What is your name?” the man asked. He replied, “Jacob.” 28 “Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him. “From now on you will be called Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have won.” 29 “Please tell me your name,” Jacob said. “Why do you want to know my name?” the man replied. Then he blessed Jacob there. Gen 32:24-29
We have such a Powerful example here. Do we give up too soon? Do we hold onto the desire, until we receive what we desire? Or, are these verses a clear example of what we are to do? Hold on until!!! Period!!

For this reason, take up the whole armor of God so that you may be able to take a stand whenever evil comes. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm.  Eph 6:13

We are to stand! So is Jacob, I mean Israel our example? And, is these verse but one of many, that remind us of who Lives in and for us? Hold on and Stand until you receive, is this the message?

Before I backslid I concidered myself a christian who loved God and thought I would never ever walk away from the Lord. I couldnt even nor did I want to imagine leaving Him. I always  tried learning and memorizing scripture. When I had a humungus trial I tried quoting some of  the scriptures you mention. The Armor of God I had memorized , I dont remember now but it had helet breastplate ect. I also was memorizing about how nothing could seperate us from God . I said these scriptures day in and day out. But, when I went through my trial ans I spoke these scriptures they didnt help me at all. I know now "or arleast" I think I know now that these verses didnt help me because I didnt have a clue what they meant. I think the helet means knowledge. So Im thinking that I knew the verse but I didnt know enough. I hope i am not entruding with your message here. I just want to learn and these verse you mention reminded me of my failure.

Alienated

We all fall short, we all struggle with and in our walk with The Lord.  "Failure" I believe is not getting up again.  Not wanting to ever try again.  I have discovered that when I have done as you have shared, no matter if I have walked away, He Never left me.  His Love and Kindness were always there reaching out to me.  Pulling me back to Him.  Do you have contempt for God, who is very kind to you, puts up with you, and deals patiently with you? Don't you realize that it is God's kindness that is trying to lead you to him and change the way you think and act? Rom 2:4 Or another trans. Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?  God's patience is all about leading us to repentance.  His Love for us is unmatched.  The enemy would want us to feel bad about the mistakes we make.  Yet, our Loving Father, His Son, and The Holy Spirit, want only for us to know The Love they have for us.

The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. 2Peter 3:9  Also, regard the patience of our Lord as an opportunity for salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him. 2Peter 3:15  We can see the same Knowledge here.  He is patient with us, wanting only to lead us back to Him.  The enemy does not want us to understand this aspect of His Love for us.  it only wants us to feel, we have no hope when we turn from His Love.  Nothing could be farther from the Truth.  When we " backslide" from our walk, He is always there working to bring us back.  I cannot speak for everybody, but I have run from Him many times.  Far more than I would care to remember.  What I do and want to remember is, how His Patience and Love brought me back to His Loving Arms.

As we memorize Scripture that is the first step.  We begin to meditate on them more and more.  The Spirit will show us their meanings, what we need at that time.  What I have discovered is, the depth of their meanings are very very deep.  We will see one thing, then the next time see something more.  This shows that The Word of God is Alive!

Alienated, I have felt many, many times what you are calling yourself.  But, know this, you are Loved and Cared for by The Father, The Son, and The Spirit.  Also, by people here as well as the rest of His Body.  I am sure you have been hurt by, many in His Body.  I have as well as many others here.  You are not intruding by sharing your thoughts.  Quite the opposite, I welcome them.  Maybe instead of the verses reminding you of failure, let them only be examples of growth.

I guess what im trying to say is I didnt know how to put on the full armour of God

Make no mistake: We live in the midst of a battle between the forces of Satan and evil on the one hand, and those of God and righteousness on the other hand.  This battle is at times intense with respect to individual believers and the church itself.  Satan stands at the ready to exploit to his advantage any sign of weakness or vulnerability among believers.  In the end, we can be certain that God will prevail and Satan and his forces will be completely and utterly destroyed.  In the meantime, as we await God's victory, we must be strong and resilient in order to endure.

When Paul the apostle Paul was close to the end of his life, despite of all of his achievements, he summed it up by saying, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith” (2 Tim. 4:7).   Paul fought, he prevailed, and he stood firm to the end.  We should follow his example.

Paul implores the Church at Ephesus and us to put on the "whole armor of God" in order to withstand Satan and evil.  But, what does that mean exactly?

Jesus showed us the way when he resisted Satan's temptations by quoting from God's Word.  Likewise, equipping ourselves with a knowledge of the Scriptures and applying its teachings to our daily lives, frequent prayer, fellowship with other believers, as well as standing firm in the faith can help us resist the temptation to sin.

  • "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).
  • "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world" (1 Peter 5:8-9).
  • "But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness" (1 Timothy 6:11).

Thank you  A servant (chris). Im goinf to copy paste what you said and what Colby said to you. I beed to ponder on this stuff.  Really thank you

Colby

As I understand what you have shared here, my point is more to God and ourselves.  Just how much do we desire what we seek from Him.  How Jacob wrestled for the Blessing he sought.  How we have the Word on which we make our stand.  Do we give up to easily?  When things begin to be difficult and our resolve weaken, are we to look at the example of the actions of Jacob?  Not that we are to fight God.  Yet, to show what our hearts desire.  Even though He knows our hearts and our desires.  Many times we need the reminder, we may at times require the knowledge of just how much we desire what we seek.

We know from what we read in the Word, of God's Plan for Jacob all along.  Quite possibly Jacob needed to know just how much he was willing to do, for what he wanted.  And, we are given a truly remarkable example, of the actions a man took, to gain what his heart desired.   And to be encouraged, For this reason, take up the whole armor of God so that you may be able to take a stand whenever evil comes. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm.  Eph 6:13  when we have done all we can, we Stand.  Not of our own strength, but His.

I wasn't sure if you were asking a question or making a statement in the discussion post, but what you've said, which comes from Scripture, works for me. :)

I felt I had asked questions, and I was not making statements, forgive any mistakes on my part.

I guess the biggest question I have about this story of Jacob is, are we to know God wants us to Wrestle, Stand, Hold On, and do whatever we need so we Receive what God has for us.  And, go to any length to show ourselves and any others our Faith and Belief that He has ONLY The BEST for HIS Children!

I think some people do lose trust and give up when they think God isn't doing something that they want God to do. I learned the Lord's Prayer when I was about eight and I've prayed it almost everyday since then, except for the periods of time I stopped praying. One line says, Your will be done on earth as in heaven. Do I want what God wants? Everytime I've prayed it, I was saying it. Now, I finally realize what God wants is truly what is important.

Amen
