These photos are from a month long trip to Florida and a two-week Caribbean cruise most of May of 2012 as a graduation and farewell gift for my German friend Annea as she prepared to return home to Stuttgart, Germany to begin working on her Doctorate. She had never seen the ocean and tropics before. In November, she would return to the area on her honeymoon. I will try to stay with the nature theme along with adding a few general photos of interest. Sunrise and sunset photos from the trip are posted at the end of the discussion "The Glory of Scenery touched by our God".

THE CRUISE
Cruise Ship Herself
We slept late, missed sunrise, until about 9am at the Ramada Inn across from the Port, packed, ate breakfast and drove over to the port at 11, parked and locked the SUV up for its 2 week stay (you always leave car windows in Florida a bit cracked, since he heat can really build up and literally blow out the windows), grabbed our 4 suitcases, and starting waling around the huge port building, and there She was: The Oasis of the Seas, the Flagship of Royal Caribbean International. Annea gave a big gasp, an "Oh, wow, it is huge". Photo is the ship at berth Port of Ft. Lauderdale.
The ship is 1,187 feet long and 208 feet wide that boasts the most elaborate top deck of any cruise ship. Among the many features: 3 movie theatres, 8 separate pool areas, a nine-hole miniature golf course, two SurfRider surfing pools, two rock climbing walls, basketball courts, ice skating rink, ship board sauna & massage, 3 merry go rounds, a zip line and numerous shops and restaurants. Basically one big floating city. The ship had so many activities many people don't get off at the islands but stayed on board. We didn't, we wanted to explore the islands. Cost was $999. per person per week: it was worth it! An Incredible taste of luxury and fantastic service at all hours. If you ever wondered what it is like to be super rich, a week of this and you will know.
(Photo is a stock photo of an overhead view at sea from Royal Caribbean package you are given when boarding that contains photos, lists of activities, times and much needed maps of how to get around the ship).
We were assigned a cabin on deck 3, #357, about midship since we had paid for a lower priced cruise package, that overlooked Central Park (the big circle area in front of the oval like area in front of the horse-shoe shaped structure on the previous photo). Room was nice, comfy bed, lavatory and shower: about like a medium priced hotel room. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner and slept on board and explored the ship while at sea, when at port at an island, we ate breakfast before dawn then we were off and running ashore and only came back for dinner, off again, coming back at midnight to sleep.
Photo is of the view of our balcony table.
After exploring an island from dawn to midnight (we covered a lot of ground, usually outside of the cities), every night at midnight before going to bed we made use of the couples area of the massage, spa, sauna. The attendants came to expect us after the 2nd night. Second to best way to end our day.
Opus dining room at dinner, seats 3000 on 3 decks. We never di get the honor of sitting at the Captain's table under the chandelier, but were usually too occupied with the food was wonderful in quantity, taste and presentation: just top of the line! Fortunately, we were getting so much exercise to burn calories.
