I am thinking about being baptised,do you think it is a good idea or should i wait longer? I love jesus with all my heart,is that a good reason to be baptised?I would like your views on when is the right time and why would one be baptised.
Being baptised is an act of obedience for a new believer. It is often called "an outward symbol of an inward change". When I was first saved, I was reluctant about baptism, mainly due to shyness and possibly a little pride, but I had committed to do whatever God required of me. So, I looked in the scriptures and was quickly convinced that it is what is expected of us.
" 11In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
13When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross." Colossians 2:11-14
"18For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him." 1 Peter 3:18-22
I am extremely glad that I did get baptized. When true repentance, surrender to God and trust in Jesus takes place, it is absolutely amazing. An undeniable, very real change takes place. Although I knew that I was already saved, after I was baptized I felt an amazing peace. I really felt like it catapulted my walk with the Holy Spirit.
hope this helps,
"I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live. " Psalm 116:1-2
P.S. I just saw on your profile that you're 43. If that's part of your concern, don't let that be a factor. I was 41 when I was saved and baptized five years ago. You will find overwhelming support from fellow believers.
I believe that if you feel the need to be baptized , do not wait ! In the New Testament ther e are examples of people being baptized. For the most part they were baptized without delay. The Phillippian jailer comes to mind.
Being baptized ....in my opinon is our way of OBEYING Jesus. The decision is yours and yours alone.
I wish you well , GOD BLESS
it's a good idea. Don't wait anymore..
Baptism, it is one of Jesus's command . (Read, Mark 16:16)
it's wonderful, amazing for me being baptized, I have baptized last year after 2 month I have received Jesus as my Lord, my GOD. I was very enthusiasm to get baptize, but I didn't do it because of my emotional, so I tried to find the verse about baptize, why someone should get it. (when I was a child (about 2-3 years), my parent have baptized me).
Pray n read the bible, and I found these : (You may read this verse)
- Matthew 2:6 ....baptized....confessing their sins.
- Matthew 28:19
- Mark 1:4-5
- Mark 16:16 ...believes and is baptized will be saved...
- Acts 8:36-37 ....."See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?'' Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may"....
- many more...
You can find the reason.
It's enough YOUR LOVE TO JESUS, that's a good reason..
Once one has been a believer by accepting Jesus as his personal saviour, you should always seek guidance from the Holyspirit whom Jesus promised that he would send to us to guide and counsel us. Through baptism we receive the full power of the Holyspirit, who is our silent oversear and will always guide and counsel us. Be blessed brethren and recieve your baptism in Jesus name.
