1 John 1:9 What does it mean?
Are you keeping your sins forgiven? Are you keeping short accounts with God? Are you worried about any sin you may have forgotten to have forgiven before you die? Are you fearful that God is about to punish you over a sin you may not even remember you did?

Without the law there would be no Grace. If any man tells you differ they are not of YHWH. Grace -unmerited favor.
all sin 1 Jn.1:8 but the law is Not useless. The New Covenant is in effect, Yet Christ himself said not one jot of the law is changed. God's law is still in effect it is overcome by the sacrifice, yet those who do not partake of the sacrifice shall be judged by the law. We either live under Grace or the Law. Those who live under Grace have a ongoing relationship with God (Repentance is needed)
Christ fulfilled many things! With the New Covenant only practices and ordinances have changed Not the Law!
Christ says so himself!
Matthew 5:17-18 (King James Version)
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
When we Embrace the sacrifice and have a realtionship with God through his Word and Mercy, we are washed clean and live under Grace. If one doesn'y partake of the sacrifice they will be guilty of the Law.
Look at the 10 commandments just to look at major laws!
Do you think you shouldn't put God first? Do you think you should steal? Murder?,........ect

Mark 12:29-31 (King James Version)
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Depending on how to see the commandments the two commandments simplefy the 10 and serves as an outline to go by!
According to Jews and Christians the first 4 commandments have to do with your relationship with God! which are sumed up with the first great commandment Christ gave (first 3 if you are catholic or lutheran)! The last 6 commandments (7 if you are lutheran or catholic)are summed up by the 2nd commandment Christ gave and are civil (laws)haveing to do with your relationship with others!
Christ is not the only Jew to simplefy it like this for he asked another Jew how he read the law having to do with relations to man and he answered just like Christ did with the second great command he gave and he was not a Christain but a Jew!

He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Christ did this a thrid time:
after Qouting the Civil Laws!!!!!!! and further exsplains that these are simplfied in this way!

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

These are to be Judeo Christian roots and the foundation for the New Covenatnt as well as the old! This nation is trying to destroy these standards as well as many churches!
Yes we live under Grace! Yes Practices and ordinances have changed But Christ supported the law even when descibing how to pray!!!!!!!!!!! He said he came Not to Change or to do away with the law not one bit rather to Fulfill it! Something we can not Do! Yes he became the passover lamb. Circumsision is of the Heart and other than that he is the Blood sacrifice! Heb.2:14,***1 Cor. 5:6-7/ (1 Tim.2:6)

The law has Not been done away with BUT those who are saved and cleansed through Christ are not subjected to the Law if they stand with a relationship with Christ at judgement! That is what allows God's wrath to Passover us! This is Living under Grace!

Let me see if I understand you. Are you saying that once we are saved we must maintain our right standing with God by keeping the law? I would rather say that I died to the law to live in Christ. I have never met anyone capable of keeping the law. I know I can't.
Didn't Jesus provide the sacrifice that purged our sins forever and sanctified us through His offering? Once we are in Him we are made the righteousness of God, right?

no that is not what I am saying you Cant keep the law! There is need for repentance when one sins after devoting their life to Christ according to Heb.6 in the right context.
I have no idea how you could the context you did from my post.Any Christian knows that all sin, that is why a documented 1 JN1:8 among others
Christ does his part we are to met him hafe way. Faith without works is Dead. Keep in mind the unpardonable sin, the knowledge of knowing better is present in such.

I totally agree....that this topic affects more people....than any other....and needs to be cleary understood....

I agree totally....
If we could have kept the law....Christ died in vain.
The simpliest way I have of thinking about it is that we started out with one command....
and we failed to be able to live up to that one thing....that God asked of us.
So................ Christ came to pay the price....so that we could go back to one law....and that is the law....
of faith.
Can we do that one thing????? Sometimes, even that is hard for us..... but, that is what is required of us....
to believe.

Hi Terry,
The Download seemed to take ages, possibly because we are out in the Sticks. so I never had an opportunity to watch and listen. Yes it is important to keep a short account with the Lord. It keeps my relationship with the Lord fruitful and effective.
Having asked God to forgive ALL my sins is necessary because there are sins that I have committed and possibly others even now of which I am not even aware of. Grieving the Holy Spirit may be done without even being aware of it. Therefore I trust God's promise of complete forgiveness
When I consider what my Lord accomplished on the cross for us, I do believe that God has already forgiven me of every sin. The price for my Body, soul and spirit has been paid in full (an accomplished fact) Therefore I and all other Christians I believe, will stand before God not in our own righteousness, but in the righteousness of Christ before God, and we will be found sinless.
Any rewards and crowns we are to receive will not only be for walking in the Spirit of God and leading a Christian life, but will mainly be for the things we accomplished for the Kingdom of God (Soul winning, encouraging Christians, Christian service etc) and those things that have already been hidden under the cross, will have no part to play in that day, Just as the Law itself cannot accomplish my salvation.

1John is one of my favorite books in the NT. We must take it in it's context and first understand that it was written to Christians.
1John 1:5-10 says NAS,
"5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us."
This is the whole though contained in these 6 verses. In 1John 1:9 the key word is, "if we confess".
which means in the GK, " to speak the same, to agree. John is saying that when we confess our sins that we are in agreement with God that what we have been doing is sin.
Denial is broken down when the truth is presented by the Word of God and by the convicting power of the Holy Spirit in the Christians life. We are then set free and cleansed from our sin.
John 8:32 says, "And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." The place of coming into the truth, and the removal of the denial that what we are doing is the place where the cleansing blood of Jesus makes us clean.
Anyone who would use 1John 1:9 as an excuse by saying, I will just sin, because I can confess it later has a real heart problem. This Scripture is the pathway for us as Christians when we do fall and need to repent and get right with God again. The blood of Jesus has cleansed us, is cleansing us, and will cleanse us, what opens the door to cleansing is confession.

I'm not sure who is being addressed, But Bob is quite right. One cannot assume that one may sin and believe that God will continually forgive us. Confession of sin is the route to be taken when we do sin. But should we "Willy Nilly"continue to sin the same old sin time and time again, even after confession, we would need to ask ourselves, where am I going wrong? Why can I not overcome this/these sins?
Gad is quite correct when he points out the following words of Christ: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
If we really love people, we would wish them no ill and do everything possible for them. i.e. Help to meet their every need, love them, Rejoice with them, etc.. The last thing we would do is quarrel, fight, rob or hurt them in anyway. By treating them as we ourselves would wish to be treated, and undertook love as a top priority in our lives. We would be fulfilling the whole Law.
In today's world this is not easy, but still we must aspire to this goal with our whole heart. If we do have this sincere desire for ourselves, I believe that God will understand should we falter. In return we would/must be quick to respond in confessing our failure. I believe this form of progress is known as "Growing in grace"

If we are still bound by the law we are still under the curs of the law. We can chose our own righteousness that comes from our ability to keep the whole law or we can receive the righteousness of God in Christ by faith. If we must continue to get our sins forgiven to stay saved we cannot stay saved. In order to be forgiven again it would be crucifying the Son of God again putting Him to open shame. If we add anything to the gospel it is no longer the gospel.

I tend to think that Christ's death on the cross is only as adequate to save us in the degree that it is enough to keep us forgiven. Jesus died for all the sins we will ever commit or else we are sunk. If we have to ask Him to forgive us again we are telling Him that all He went through on Calvary was not enough.
All things are lawful unto me but I would rather keep a good testimony. If we abuse the liberty we have there are consequences that have nothing to do with whether we are forgiven or not. In one degree or another we have all abused this liberty and justified it in our own minds the things we want to do. Let me be the example (lol). I have in times passed ate too much. I love to cook and I love my cooking and I love to over eat. I am free to eat like a stump-grubber but if I do I get fat and we all know of all the other things that come with obesity. Jesus took our punishment. He took it all. We are free! I am free but I think I will resist the ice cream we have in the freezer a bit longer.
As we mature in Christ there are things we want to avoid because they do not reflect who we are in Him. As we mature in Christ there are things we want to avoid because we know that these things are not good for us. As we mature in Christ there are things we want to avoid because we conceder what effect our actions would have on others and how the lost would view our savior.

The wages of our sin in death. Jesus died the death we deserved. Jesus rose from the dead to give us the eternal life we do not deserve. We are the righteousness of God because Jesus made it so.
