Scriptual Principles: 1. why does God allow trials? what is God's purpose for allowing you to suffer heartache? although everything that comes your way is not necessarily sent by God, He is sovereign--that is, everything that touches your life must first pass through His hand. of course, sometimes the reason you'll experience trouble is because of the consequences of your own or another's action. at other times, your pain won't seem to have any rhyme or reason. yet, God knows exactly what He's doing when He allows affliction into your life, and He has a unique plan for what He wants to accomplish in you.
2.God's purpose of purity: one of the reasons God allows trials in your life is to rid you of the things that shouldn't be there. because they don't fit who you are as a follower of Christ. His desire is to purify you--making you Holy in His sight and useful to the kingdom of God. unfortunately, the best way for Him to get your attention is through difficulties and trials that will drive you to Him. God has an amazing plan for your life, but if you're distracted by sin, you'll head in the wrong direction and miss the blessing He has for you.
3.God's purpose of proving: perhaps you have faith in Jesus as your Savior and trust God to answer your prayers. however, when hardships assial your life, what happens to your faith? an important lesson you'll learn is that untried faith is unreliable faith. in other words, you don't know how devoted you are to God until your tested. this is why He will send trials into your life--to prove the quality of your faith. He wants to grow your trust in Him so that you'll obey Him even if you don't understand His direction and won't give up no matter how tough the challenges become.
4.God's purpose of patterning: God also uses trials to show you who He is--He reveals His love, power, wisdom, and character by helping you in times of need. as God is teaching you bout himself, He is also transforming you into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. He is shaping you and working in your heart to make you a living demonstration of His comforting presence in another preson's life. with His Spirit, humility, courage, comfort, and commitment, you are an active testimony of His grace to the world.
5.God's faithfulness in the process: as you face the process of God purifying you, proving your faith, and patterning you to be like Christ, you can count on Him to be faithful. Paul writes in 1 Cor. 10:13, no temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. God knows how much suffering your heart can handle, therefore, He's going to limit the trials that touch your life. it's never God's goal to destroy you; rather, He wants to build your character and bless you through your relationship with Him.
6.God's design in the process: God has designed hardships for you personally--He will never burden you with a trial that you don't need. rather, He's tailored your situation to teach you something specific bout being more like Christ. God works in your life to build you up, to get you back on track, and to train you to be the person He created you to be. when you realize that God's purpose is for your good and that He's your constant comfort and help through trouble, you'll be able to thank Him for all that you're learning through your hardships.
7.God's progress in the process: if you were in training to lift heavy weights, you wouldn't starting by lifting a 200 lb. barbell. rather, you would begin exercising with 5 lb. weights. then, when you were able to handle 5 lb weights, you would progress to 10 lb. weights and so fourth. in other words, you would progress in the intensity of your training. the same is true in your spiritual life. as you're able to handle more in faith, God will increase the weight of your burden to continue to stretch you. He does this because He sees your potential and knows what He can do in your life. God isn't trying to break your spirit, He's teaching you to be submissive to Him so that you can serve Him with execellent and joy.
8.God's measure in the process: How does God measure how far you've progessed? He does so through the way you respond to difficulty, temptations, pain, loss, and disappointments. are you truly surrendered and committed to the Lord? are you walking in His ways and allowing Christ to live through you? the goal is to make you more like Christ, so reflect Him in everything you say and do--no matter how diffcult the circumstances.
Conclusion: you must choose how you'll respond to difficulty, hardships, and pain. will you be devasted by it or will you trust God? Will you cry and complain or will you thank God for what He is doing because you know He is building the character of Christ in you? You'll either waste the burdens and sorrows that assail you or you'll allow God to make you stronger through them. God is always at work in your life, and if you want His best, you must trust and obey Him no matter how your circumstances may appear. are you willing? have faith in Him and claim the encouraging promise of Romans 8:28 which assures, God caues all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
