All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Hebrews 6:4 - 6-6

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

I came across these verses a few minutes ago while doing an engine search on something entirely different. When I read the verses I was stunned. The few of you who know me ,know that I have a hard time with believing that God would except me back after walking away from Him or even accepting that I belonged in the first place.  I read these verses over and over again and  I cant see them meaning anything different than what they say.  In one time in my life I thought I had tasted of the heavenly gift and was made partakers of the Holy Ghost. <--- not words I would have used but I did believe that I had beautiful dealings with the Holy spirit...

These verses  must be why I always feel lost. If any one reads this and feels led to respond, it is my hope you respond with what you believe these scripture verses mean to you and hopefully not think I am wanting to talk about OSAS . Thank you for any replies. I am really upset about this. Is it now impossible for me?

Hi Ribon,

I read your post and felt your pain. God is the best Father in the universe. Think about what you consider a loving Father to be like. Maybe you come up with things like one who nurtures his child and is so proud of them. They do not have to do anything to earn that love. They are his offspring and love is what motivates that father to care for that child. He makes sure that the child is taught the ways of life, he teaches him everything so that he will be successful in life and so that life will go well with him. He provides shelter, food, fellowship, toys, he gives up his free time to go to school plays, to enjoy a tea party with them or what ever else the child may need. His focus is on the child who constantly makes many mistakes, breaks things, gets into trouble, and a host of other things that children may be found guilty of. He corrects, disciplines and always redirects the child but this good father never abandons his child because to do so would be wrong on his behalf.

Well Father God cares for us the same way. He is nurturing us. And just like the child who makes many mistakes and sometimes does it knowing he is doing wrong hoping to get away with it, so do we at times make mistakes and rebel against God. But he knows us and loves us regardless. In Philippians 2:13 it says that God is working in us helping us to want to do his will and then energizing us with the ability to carry out his will.

Often times the reason we are so sure that Father God will abandon us is because we have not had relationships that made us feel valued and loved even when we did wrong. Sometimes parents withhold their love when they are angry with their children. We then think that Father God is like that and that when we do wrong he no longer loves us or will cast us off.

Now to address the scripture in Hebrews chapter 6. This is a scripture that many have wrangled with throughout my life time at least. The writer was speaking to people who knew God and were in danger of throwing off the sacrifice of Christ to go back into the sacrificial system of the law due to severe persecution they were enduring. There are at least 5 strong warnings in Hebrews that are addressed to believers and these should be taken seriously, however God will never cast off even an erring child when it is at least in his heart to do right.

It is evident that you want to serve the Lord but may be having difficulty with remaining faithful in your walk with him. It doesn't matter how long we have served the Lord if we do not nurture that walk through fellowship, worship, prayer, studying the word and whatever else keeps us in communion with the Holy Spirit we will grow cold.

We are commanded to stay aglow with the spirit, to walk in the spirit so that we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, and to avoid sinning. The Spirit is our Comforter given to come alongside and help us. He prays for us when we do not know how to pray, he teaches us, and shows us things to come.

Father God has given us everything we need to succeed in this walk of faith. You can do this. You have the One who spoke the worlds into being who abides in you to help you. If he can hold the universe together he can keep you from falling and present you faultless before the Father in love.

Keep Faitful to him. "For a just, man falleth seven times, and riseth up again......Prov. 24:16

Blessings,

Helen
