All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Hebrews 6:4 - 6-6

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

I came across these verses a few minutes ago while doing an engine search on something entirely different. When I read the verses I was stunned. The few of you who know me ,know that I have a hard time with believing that God would except me back after walking away from Him or even accepting that I belonged in the first place.  I read these verses over and over again and  I cant see them meaning anything different than what they say.  In one time in my life I thought I had tasted of the heavenly gift and was made partakers of the Holy Ghost. <--- not words I would have used but I did believe that I had beautiful dealings with the Holy spirit...

These verses  must be why I always feel lost. If any one reads this and feels led to respond, it is my hope you respond with what you believe these scripture verses mean to you and hopefully not think I am wanting to talk about OSAS . Thank you for any replies. I am really upset about this. Is it now impossible for me?

So is "fundamentalist".

Tammy and Watchman,

I will usually respond with either "Thank You" or "Your point is?".

Lord Bless,

LT

:)

LT,

I was reading it in a book so there wasn't a lot I could say that they would hear.

You could burn the book. They still will not hear (I am not sure they hear in person), but it will make you feel better ... very therapeutic :-)

ROFL

ROFL. See, Tim my husband has a co-worker who is Catholic. Tim was kidding him one day & said his wife, Tammy, thinks Catholics are going to hell. Well, I may have somewhat said that but I don't believe they all are - just most of them. Jose is his name. Jose now is on a mission to make me change my view. He first sent with Tim the Catechism. Weeks later, he had a book & said he felt led to give it to Tim's wife. What he doesn't realize is he was giving me ammunition, not transforming my thinking. So, I've really been studying it since. Tim told Jose that he kept pushing the issue & Tim tried warning him but he wouldn't back off. Tim warned him I was studying it pretty deeply. So, Jose's reward is ME. Tim introduced us thru email & he's received my first email on Mary being sinless. Just waiting on his reply while still studying. The good thing is Jose, as well, has had to dig deeper himself. Prayerfully, God will remove the veil from his eyes.

I just found it really interesting that the book kept calling us Bible-believing Protestants as if that was a bad thing.

The problem with a typical Catechism is that it teaches them what to think; but not why, or how to discover and understand it. I have Catholic friends who may get the basic idea of Christian doctrines, but have no idea at all why or how to find those subjects in the Bible. I was astonished at a friend of mine who considers himself a "renewed Catholic" who had never read the book of Ephesians. He had no concept at all of why that book would be essential to his comprehension of his faith.

This is why many Catholics confuse whether it is wrong to use capital punishment. They have never actually read what God's word says about it. They have no idea that Jesus specifically did not end capital punishment at any place in the New Testament. Because they have never read it.

It's really sad but the sources are right there in their face. They just need to pick it up & research it. I just pray Jose does the research for himself thru all of this. Wouldn't that just be awesome if he truly found Christ while trying to convert me to Catholicism?

Hi Group,

Romans 12:1-2 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible.

And Janie, it is my belief that if a new convert coming to the Lord is not exercising these two verses, Hebrews 6 kicks in.

(1). A new believer presents his/her physical body to God by repentance and  abstention  from worldly lusts........and

(2).a renewal of one's mind to a Godly walk...... Incidentally, we can think of "renewal" as in "urban renewal". This type of renewal involves a complete wrecking and tearing down of a whole neighborhood, and starting with brand new material.

Just like completely discarding one's mind completely of all worldly fertilizer........and allowing the Holy Spirit to start cultivating His nine fruit for a change of life.

And I stand with LT: I also reject the idea that a child of God, who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit is also indwelt by demons. There is a great difference between possession and oppression.

Romans 12:24 = And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Grace and Peace.

Richard, just curious of your thoughts. You said:

"... I also reject the idea that a child of God, who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit is also indwelt by demons. There is a great difference between possession and oppression.

Romans 12:24 = And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."

How do you interpret Ephesians 6:11 then?

"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

The word there "Wiles", in greek, is the word "methodeia" which is the same word that would be used for describing how someone would breach a wall, in warfare. It can mean to construct a means of digging under or climbing over a city wall. In context, since the idea of warfare and armor is the construct of the sentence, it seems to indicate the Devil would use his wiles to get into your life, so you need armor to prevent such a breach. This passage is written to the Church at Ephesus, so written to Christians.

For me, I don't see the work of the Devil as merely trying to possess a person, but rather to corrupt them and defeat them in various ways. In fact, demonic possession seems to be the rarest kind of thing he does to destroy people.

Just curious of your thoughts.

Scribe, my brother in Christ,

Glad to hear from you.......

O.K., now some of the things I'm going to say here can be also applied to my post - "My Dad Can Whip Your Dad".

God gives believers His armor (Eph. 6:11), part of which is from the Holy Spirit's nine fruit. Sometimes soldiers don't have their equipment ( armor) on securely, or not polished and clean (just like Christians), and they are not ready for battle.

That's why army officers and non-coms must have regular inspections......just like pastors, elders, deacons, etc.......to make sure the troops (or saints) are ready for enemy attack.

I agree, Satan wants to discourage believers to fall out of the ranks of churches. How does he do this?

My answer: I Peter 5:8, " Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (N.A.S.B.).

I firmly believe God allows Satan to tempt believers (with restrictions, like with Job)....and we are being told here to check our armor (Be of sober spirit) because like on the old T.V. show - "Candid Camera.......when you least expect it.........

I Peter 5:9, "But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world." (N.A.S.B.).

So this suffering goes on regularly all over. The devil is ambitious and active (Rev 12:10-12).

We "resist" the evil one by keeping and wearing our "armor" in A-1 condition.

And check out Ephesians 6:18, " With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints." (N.A.S.B.).

Sounds kinda like the two verses from I Peter........

I agree with you, Scribe......Satan doesn't want to possess people. He'll let his demons do that. But he wants to wear folks out (like Job) .....discourage them (like the apostle Peter)......or whatever he can do to cut into the disciples of Christ. In the end, that's how he can destroy people........on judgment day.......................sad.

Grace and Peace.
