All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I am wondering what we do about witnessing to those who get "uncomfortable" when we talk about God to them.  I have family members who tell me that if other family members are uncomfortable when I talk about things that God has done for me, then I should not talk about him, because that will just turn them off from God.

My understanding in the bible is that we are to spread the word of God to everyone!  That we will be persecuted by man, and alienated by them when witnessing.  BUT...when we witness we are making God happy and we will be blessed.

I also understand that when we witness we are to be led by the Holy Spirit.  We are not to just talk about God with our own words, but to let the Holy Spirit talk through us.  I also understand that actions speak louder than words.  Hopefully my family will see the changes in me in the last year...which sometimes I dont think they do..but ya never know.

My mom and I kind of got into it about this matter again.  She is still saying that I cannot "force" the issue about God on my family...which is not at all what I do.  I only mention here and there what the Lord has done for me...when led by the Holy Spirit.  I dont see anything wrong with that..and if that makes them uncomfortable then thats their problem.

Any feed back on this would be most helpful!

Another guy posted a discussion on here just yesterday about this very thing. The discussion took on another life but the question he had was about witnessing to his parents who only ridiculed him. http://www.allaboutgod.net/forum/topics/ents

Kelley,

Continue to preach with your walk and pray for them. In God's timing God will honor your heart's desires. Invite them to Church, bible studies etc... if they say no 1,000,000 times, is ok, you keep doing it.

It took about 15 years for my dad to accept to join a bible study with me and the rest of the family. Be in it for life beloved. God is with you. Rejoice through it all and seek God's kindome and His glory, all else will be added to you in God's timing.

I read that Taminator and didnt really learn anything about witnessing...only other matters..lol.  but did learn somethings about my questions.  I will continue to pray for them and that my actions will speak louder than words at this point.  I will also pray that the Holy Spirit will speak through me to them.  That is what Im most comfortable with at this point. Thanks everyone for the input!

I'm sorry hun. My bad. I guess when you mentioned the parents, I thought of that discussion. I'll pray the Lord give you the words you need & the right time.

Thats ok.. Totally understand.. Enjoyed reading the other discussion anyway. Thanks for the prayers!

I found this article and explains it better than I could-

At some point, every Christian has had a family member, a friend, co-worker, or acquaintance who is not a Christian. Sharing the gospel with others can be difficult, and it can become even more difficult when it involves someone with whom you have close emotional ties. The Bible tells us that some people will be offended at the gospel (Luke 12:51-53). However, we are commanded to share the gospel, and there is no excuse for not doing so (Matthew 28:19-20Acts 1:81 Peter 3:15).

So, how can we evangelize our family members, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances? The most important thing we can do is pray for them. Pray that God would change their hearts and open their eyes (2 Corinthians 4:4) to the truth of the gospel. Pray that God would convince them of His love for them and their need for salvation through Jesus Christ (John 3:16). Pray for wisdom as to how you can minister to them (James 1:5). In addition to praying, we must also live godly Christian lives in front of them, so they can see the change God has made in our own lives (1 Peter 3:1-2). As Saint Francis of Assisi once said, “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”

Finally, we must be willing and bold in our actual sharing of the gospel. Proclaim the message of salvation through Jesus Christ to your friends and family (Romans 10:9-10). Always be prepared to speak of your faith (1 Peter 3:15), doing so with gentleness and respect. Ultimately, we must leave the salvation of our loved ones up to God. It is God's power and grace that saves people, not our efforts. The best and most we can do is pray for them, witness to them, and live the Christian life in front of them.

As you preach the gospel,  some people will turn against you, some will even reject you,but don,t worry keep on , remembered that Jesus Christ was betrayed by his own disciples, yet he still payed the price on the cross for us all. Also its very difficult to convince a non believer the first time you approach him/her, but don,t give up, There are a lot of blessings we get when we win souls for the lord
