All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

1 Samuel 1

Many of us know the story of Samuel. How his mother cried and pleaded year after year for the Lord to open her womb. That she would feel within her body the kicking of a life. That she too would enjoy the bond only a mother experiences when the baby is nourished by her, as it is cradled in her arms. The stare in each others eyes, the sounds the baby makes, and the tears mommy wipes away. There must have been moments when she stared at the other moms who were being kissed on the cheek by their young ones, or clinging to the mommy's neck seeking comfort. So many wonderful things Hannah wept about year after year when trekking the hills to the place of worship. How she murmured under her breath "if you would only give me a son I will give him right back to you" . Or perhaps in her desperate state sighed " if only for a season let me know the joy of carrying and bringing forth life that my husband would stop feeling sorry for me". Year after year she presented her pleas to the Creator. I can't even imagine the agony she experienced when a new child was born in the village, the sounds of celebration and rejoicing while she remained barren.

Until, in an unexpected moment, and through a most peculiar experience the High Priest grants her the petition of her heart. At first he thought she was a drunken mess, until she expresses her anguish and he realizes she needed to be comforted. I can only imagine Hannahs excitement on her way back home, believing she would soon be a mom. Behold, Samuel. She returned him to the High Priest once weened  and would only visit once a year at the time of sacrifices to bring a fresh new coat for the child to wear.

Can you imagine that? Giving up the greatest blessing ever given so that others would be blessed? As a mother I have learned that it is when I surrendered my children to the will and purpose of God  that He was able to move in their lives. I am grateful for the children God gave me and daily cherish the amazing moments I was able to share with them when they needed me and I needed them. The Lord heard my cry and fulfilled hopes I didnt even realize existed. There comes a time when we must let go and allow God.  To do as He pleases. In the end He is and will always be  glorified!  Stay strong, vigilant, pursue your hearts desire and rest in Gods promises that He will soon bless the barren and fulfill all hopes even those un-imagined!
