When I was a small boy I remember that my Dad was always the first one up and out of bed in the morning.
When I was a small boy I remember that my Dad was always the first one up and out of bed in the morning. I'm sure it had something to do with him being raised on a farm as the oldest of a rather large family. As the elder son the chores of the day where a priority for him. The morning chores came before everything else. I don't know if my Dad prayed in the morning before chores or as the work was being done. Honestly, I don't have proof that he prayed at all as a young boy. I do know that my Grandma prayed. She has been gone a very long time. I never knew my Dads Mom.

What I do know is this, my Dad was a loving man. He was a quiet, gentle hard working man. He had great respect for my Mom and their love was a true example of a Godly marriage. He once told me to "always respect your wife". He told me in the only letter he ever wrote to me while I was in the military how proud he was to be my father. He was not a formally educated man. Being the eldest Son, the farm took priority because that was his families only source of income.

I loved to work with my Father around the yard. I enjoyed spending time with him even if he was just outside smoking his pipe. We would sit and talk about the small things in life. We would laugh and share the funny things in life as well. I miss him a lot. He would spend quiet times by himself and we went to Church as a family all the time. We were taken care of both physically and mentally. Loved and cared for. My Mom and Dad loved each other and respected what they both knew God had done for and with them.

I am now older than my Dad was when he passed away. I am born again. God is at work in me. God has placed in me a deep love for people and given me my soulmate to journey with me. I am happy to know that sometimes words don't need to be spoken to know that we are loved.

Father, I give thanks for the time we spend together. You have given us a peace that surpasses all understanding. I rest in your arms Abba. We are loved. May we share our thoughts with you and may you guide us with your wisdom.
Fear can and will stop us in our tracks. Rightly so at times. Because fear, healthy fear can keep us alive. Fear can and will also stop us from being the people God meant us to be. Fear can come from lies that we have told ourselves or that others have told us about ourselves. Such as, "I'm just not good enough" or "Your not good enough".
"I'm not smart enough"I can never help because I'm just not enough of....Whatever.

In my own life my own brokenness helped reinforce the lies that kept me from God for many years. Because of my own brokenness the need to "prove" myself to the world was very powerful. But, when I wasn't successful all the time with that I continued to beat up on myself. Looking back I have been able to see that God was looking for me all along. Just like the Prodigal Son I needed to turn from sin and broken habits and lifestyle and give my heart and very life to God.

When I came here to AllAboutGod.net it was because of an invitation I received because of my seeking help with my relationship with God. I needed answers and I was "hungry" for what God was giving me.

My prayer is that as new people come here to find answers God will direct them in the path he has for them as he has done me. I continue to grow and I long for more time with our Lord. I continue to struggle knowing I'm not yet where I need to be but I am glad I'm not where I used to be. When we seek God with our hearts open to him, he fills us with his incredible perfect love. I do so enjoy his word in scripture which feeds me daily. Prayer is conversation with him and that is joy.

Be steadfast in your journey. You are a pilgrim on this path. Know that you belong to our God the almighty whose love is perfect for you. Have Hope in Jesus our perfect intercessor who gave his life that we might share in eternity. Let his sacrifice soak into your soul.

May God bless you and keep you close to him at all times through Jesus Christ in whose name we pray, Amen

In it was all of the information we as Marines would need to live and get by as new Marines. We had to carry the book with us at all times. We had to read it whenever we found ourselves waiting for something like a class or a training session. We were told to memorize the information because we would be tested on it and our jobs as Marines were hinged on every word in this book. The red monster was to become very close to us.

The Bible is certainly not a red monster. But, it is a very personal and critical part of who we are as Christians just as the red monster was to me and my fellow Marines. I have found that God's word to me is as crucial to me as oxygen for living. The very closeness of God's teaching makes reading and studying it like breathing to me. My prayer for you is that you discover the personal closeness of God's word in his book the Bible.

Dissecting the very words of Jesus for me is very enjoyable.

At the end of Steve Arterburn's book "Healing is a Choice" is a Forty-day Challenge. If you take his challenge everyday for the next forty days it will take you about five minutes to read this devotional. I found for myself it had great significance reading it aloud. Reading this devotion helped me to see just how much God Loves me. Language, the power of spoken words to our Lord from our heart is prayer. Prayer has incredible healing abilities. Please take this challenge. Go to a quiet place and read these words.
Opening Prayer
Lord I am broken and hurting due to the brokenness of others and mistakes of my own. Please use your powers to heal me and give me courage to make the choices I need to make to allow your healing in my life Forgive me for standing in your way of healing for me. Thank you for allowing my past to end one second ago, and my future to begin right now in this moment with you.
Affirmation: Today I chose to Heal

Today I choose to Heal.
My healing begins right now, in this moment.
I am no longer bound by my sick past.
There is healing in my future.
For the next twenty-four hours, I choose to live free and heal.
I choose to let go of past hurts that I cannot undo.
I choose to forgive myself for wrong choices in the past.
Today I will dwell on what is good and right, not on the darkness I have experienced or the darkness others invite me to live.
Today I will live beyond myself and live for God.
On this day I will choose to feel my life rather than live in denial.
I will not medicate away my pain, sorrow or anxiety.
I will allow each negative feeling to lead me to greater depths of healing.
I will not drown out or ignore my negative emotions.
I will work through these feelings and move out of them.
I will not project them onto those around me.
When I am unaware of what choice to make next, I will choose to do the next right thing.
Today I will not hide or run away.
I will connect with those who love me and with those who need my love.
Throughout this day I will stay connected to God and ask him to guide me and lead me.
Today will be an adventure for me.
I will take a risk and enjoy the unpredictable.
I will not be governed by my fears.
I will choose to do something uncomfortable that might lead me to know the truth about myself or live life to the fullest.
I will not lie to myself today.
I will seek the truth and will ask for help when I need it.
Today I will reestablish some boundaries that will protect me from unhealthy people and unhealthy situations.
I will tear down some walls that are keeping some wonderful people from knowing me and loving me.
If there is some ungrieved loss, I will grieve it as much as I can today, and then put it away.
Today I will choose reality and embrace it.
I will accept my life and pick up my life right where it is.
I refuse to wallow in self-pity.
I will not focus on what I do not have or what might have been.
On this day I will not give up.
No matter how difficult the struggle, I choose to persevere.
I will not let any excuse be strong enough to derail my path to healing.
I will never give up or give in to an old life that did not serve me well.
I will allow no one to discourage me.
Today I will heal and rely on God to deliver me through the choices I make.
Today I will allow God to control my life, and each choice I make, I will make with God in mind and love in my heart.
On this day I choose healing.
I will do what I can do to heal and accept the limitations God has placed before me.
I will see every limitation I encounter as an invitation by God to do for me what I cannot do for myself.
I will accept that healing is sometimes slow and delayed and will grow in character in the meantime.
Today I will step outside of myself and serve others.
I will find a need and fill it.
I will find the hurt of another and help heal it.
I will not become self-absorbed or filled with self-obsession.
I will reach out to someone in need and do what I can to meet that need.
Today I will ask for God’s help to live out His purpose.
Today I will live for God and not myself.
Today I choose to live.
Today I choose to love.
Today I choose to heal.
Recommended reading for all those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.tag:www.allaboutgod.net,2013-05-22:1383940:BlogPost:14578262013-05-22T11:24:51.000Zjourneymanhttp://www.allaboutgod.net/profile/Jmeister

A man in need of prayer. With his brothers and needing them to stay with him and prayerfully join with him. But, this does not happen. They are weak and tired. Three times Jesus asks them to stay awake and pray with him and just as Jesus predicts Peter's denial (for three times) they fail him and fall asleep.. Jesus in his own human weakness ask for "this cup to be taken away". Do you see yourself in this picture like I see myself at times? Falling "asleep" in our efforts to pray with our Jesus. Our chance here is to stay awake this time and pray with Jesus. Pray about him and our own failings and storms of life. Can we stay awake with him? I picture myself next to Jesus laying prostrate on the ground before God our loving Father. When I am with him he is all that matters. I pray. He has given his life for me. Without him I am nothing. His love is like oxygen. Each word that comes from him food for life. May God Bless you all. Jesus has proven how much God loves you and me.

Today as you go through your day what is your vision telling you? Do your eyes seem to be blurry in seeing others? The guy who cut you off in traffic today was really helping cloud your vision right? The clerk in the store with the wild haircut, how did she appear to you? Your husband/ wife now there is someone who can really give you vision difficulty. Did your eyes focus this morning on Jesus or on you this morning?

From the moment we get up in the morning our eyes start focusing on us. What we will wear that day. How do we deal with our wife, husband, or children? Who we will deal with at work? Who will we deal with on the ride to work? Our vision is obstructed by our self. So how do we as Christians take our focus off of ourselves and onto God instead?

First, the privilege of prayer is something we must never take for granted. It is such a powerful means of talking and sharing with our God. So meaningful that when the disciples asked how to pray Jesus gave them what has come to be known as “The Lord’s Prayer” Matthew 6: 9-13. So from the moment we get up in the morning we should work on making it a habit to share our” first fruits” of the day, waking and seeing and breathing with the Lord.

I think I must say that for me, to love Jesus is not enough for me. I say that I am in love with Jesus because I am in Christ. There is a big difference here. Totally committed to “following” Christ requires us to give up love of self. We must place our eyesight on him and focus it completely on Jesus. Is this something we can just do? Well the disciples did it didn’t they. Jesus said “Follow me” and they did. Our eyesight, our vision must follow Jesus. Does this mean I must pack up everything and go somewhere? Sometimes, it does mean that. Only through deep meaningful unselfish prayer will we learn God’s path for us. I have learned to value God’s gift of patience and wisdom more than any silver or gold. “Love is patient”. God is love.

I ask God to keep my eyesight on him. I want to be able to see the beauty of the heart that belongs to the girl with the half bald head and bright pink hair on top. Remember that it is not my job to criticize other drivers.

I am in love with Jesus and committed to him. My eyesight was cloudy this morning. But, Praise God I have not stayed in the cloud of darkness.

As many of us are advancing in years it becomes increasingly important for us to stay as healthy and active as we can. Sometimes this is very difficult. I can certainly attest to this fact! But what is even more important is for us as Christians to stay flexible in our walk with Jesus. Anyone who has worked or played sports can tell you “stretching” is vital before doing any physical labor or sports activity. Loosening up our muscles and “warming” them up helps to keep us from becoming injured. I equate “stretching” of our Christian muscles to reading God’s word. Listening to good Christian music is another. We have so much to choose from now for all tastes. Listening to Bible tracts is one. Fellowship with other Christians who also love this stretch. There are many, many more. I’m sure as many as God’s blessings on all of us. Practicing these connections will keep us flexible, pliable to God’s work in us.

Some time back I was reminded how important it is as we go about learning and growing to be “coachable”. Our ability to listen to what God is telling us. Our willingness to “let go and let God” as well as the “practice” of reading God’s word for us, are crucial to growing in Christ. Our willingness to take direction is directly affected by how much we “know” of the love God has for us. He loves us. We must also love ourselves in a balanced manner. He is working out a perfect plan in our lives. God also tells us what he is looking for from us.

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] Matthew 22:37-39

Loving God and loving ourselves and our neighbors is the goal. What must we do to reach the goal? How do we as Christians attain the goal God has planned for us? The answer is to stretch our muscles in God’s word. To read or listen or watch God’s holy word given to us so that we might become stronger in Christ. There are many resources available to us to help us learn and spread the good news of Jesus throughout “our” world.

I come from a place of not loving myself very much. Broken, hurting and confused I tried my best to “perform” without God in my life. Seemed like no matter how hard I worked or what I looked like in the world I was still on the “broken list”. God lifted me up out of the pit and held me close! Now as I grow it is my desire to live for him and in him. I have no desire to let my Christian muscles grow weak. My day starts with prayerful thanks. Stretching out and looking for all the blessings God has given me. Working my ears and reminding myself that God tells us he loves us always. Using my voice to praise and thank him for “all” that he has done and will do.

We can’t allow ourselves to stay dwelling around the past. Are you stuck in your old way of doing things? What was it like when you first came to Jesus? We must stretch our muscles. We must grow and look to our God for his plan not our old one.

16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 2 Corinthians 5:16-18

We are new creations! Our old is gone forever! God loves us! Jesus says take his hand and walk with him. “Follow me” he told his disciples. Stretch our hands high! Take a deep breath! Let the air out slowly…..God loves you! :-)

It was a Wednesday September 21, 2011 at work. I had not been feeling to well dizzy, nauesea, and my back was really hurting. I decided to go and see our occupational health nurse. Well not long after chatting with her I was on my way to the Emergency room in Worcester, MA. What seemed to take forever was actually not long at all.
As if by her own miracle my wife was in the ER with me. Seems like you tell the same story 1000 times while you are there. Whats wrong? What hurts? What were you doing when this happened? Then they tell you,"well we are going to keep you here for observation". Suddenly it seems all else stops. Now you are a plastic name band with your birthday and Doctors name on it.

You don't sleep in the ER you close your eyes and then they poke you with something else. Surrounded by genuinely wonderful people it's hard to focus on the world around you. I prayed a lot. No I mean it. I prayed a lot! Night time comes more pain meds. Long night ahead "help me Lord I pray". Not knowing is very painful. Trusting in God is something I happily embrace. I have no control here at all. Only he can answer my questions I know. Around 10:00am a Doctor comes in with her students around her like ducklings around their Mommy duck. She is short and round. Abour 5 feet 1 inch and carries herself like a drill sargeant. "Good morning she says with great confidence"! Then the questions start. "Stand up she says". I rise slowly. "Do this, do that, look at this, stand on one leg". I obey as best I can. "You have strabisimus". This I learn is a term for eye muscles that are basically out of control. This is what is causing my double vision, dizziness, nausea. So now what I ask? Oh well you need to see a neuroopthamologist! She says to us. My wife and I are like two little kids. What about my chest and back pain I ask? "Oh she says that you'll have to see the spine clinic about".

Three weeks later I have not been at work because the double vision keeps me from driving, reading, typing, so I'm praying a lot. My eyes are so bad one going in one direction the other eye in another I have to buy clip on shades to cover up the "vision issue". I noticed in trying to talk to people it was hard for them to look at me and the dancing eyeballs. Yeah, Ok it was hard for me to look at them too. It is hard for most to hide pity and we feel a need to look away.

Yesterday was my appointment with the "eye specialist". We were excited finally answers! Into Boston, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary! World reknown leader in medical knowledge! My back is so bad I can't walk up so my wife gets me a wheel chair. Dizzy, broken and hopeful we make our way up to the 9th floor. We meet the Doctor and two hours of examination later they say "there is nothing we can do for you medically. It may go away on its own or it may not." I am like"are you kidding me!" No he says. Sorry.

My wife and I leave kinda in a fog. She looks at me and crys. I join her crying. "Can you believe this", I say. We pull away into the Boston traffic heading for home. You know what I say to my wife? Tonight when we are going to bed we are going to pray and I would like you to take some Holy water I got from Lourdes and bless my eyes. So,we did exactly that! My wife dipped her finger in the Holy water and blessed my eyes in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit! Today my eyes are perfect! All day no problems! ! Not once! No double vision! No dizziness! PRAISE GOD! PRAISE GOD! I am typing my little fingers off to tell all! We must always do what we know to do. But never ever never forget that GOD is IN CONTROL! I am here to testify to the truth of this miracle.

Some questions for tomorrow.tag:www.allaboutgod.net,2011-09-19:1383940:BlogPost:11514312011-09-19T00:59:59.000Zjourneymanhttp://www.allaboutgod.net/profile/Jmeister

Father, Gentle God have mercy on your creations tonight. Many of us have fallen away from you. Many of us have never known you. Our hearts break tonight. So I know you are saddened too. Thank you for loving us so much. You gave us your son to die a horrible death. You raised him up so we could be with you again. You show us what it means to forgive. Father bring us closer to you. Saved by the cross we reach out to you. Comfort those who seek peace, love and joy! Jesus said to Peter, Do you love me?

We love you Lord! Bless us so we can feed your lambs. Bless us so we can love your lambs. Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from God! We lift up all your lambs tonight to you dear God so you may cover them in your glory! Father let not one lamb be lost tonight. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ , Amen
