A faith barrier is made up of attitudes that short-circuit our trust and prevent us from obeying the Lord's will. A negative self-image can hinder us in this way, as can ignorance of God's character and promises. Three other attitudes can also trip us up: doubt, feelings of inadequacy, and fear of failure.

Moses doubted that the Israelites would believe he had been chosen by the Lord to lead them. But God graciously provided reassurance--in the form of evidence that He could accomplish everything He'd promised (Ex. 4:1-5). When doubt invades our minds, it can be overcome with diligent study of Scripture and persistent prayer, which will dislodge uncertainty and replace it with biblical truth.

Moses wasn't eloquent, and a perceived lack of skill left him feeling inadequate for the job--he was afraid trying to speak would make him stumble. God patiently reassured him of divine help in that task. The Lord often chooses unlikely people to carry out His plan because He looks at the heart, not human qualifications (1 Sam. 16:7). He can overcome all our inadequacies.

Sadly, Moses did not embrace what God promised but instead asked to be relieved of the assignment. A fear of failure can prevent us from saying yes to the Lord.

Carrying out God's will requires a heart that trusts Him, a soul that steps out in obedience, and a mind that leaves success or failure to Him. As we break down the faith barrier, we will be able to see the evidence of God's presence and power--and experience the joy of obedience.

It doesn't seem fair, does it? Paul spent his life serving Christ, and yet he experienced continual suffering. Why would God let one of His most faithful servants go through so much pain? This isn't just a question about Paul; it's an issue we face today. In our minds, the Lord should protect His loyal followers from hardships, but He doesn't necessarily do so.

Maybe our reasoning is backwards. We think faithful Christians don't deserve to suffer, but from God's perspective, suffering is what produces faithful Christians. If we all had lives of ease without opposition, trials, or pain, we'd never really know God, because we'd never need Him. Like it or not, adversity teaches us more about the Lord than simply reading the Bible ever will.

I'm not saying we don't need to know Scripture; that's our foundation for faith. But if what we believe is never tested by adversity, it remains head knowledge. How will we ever know the Lord can be trusted in the midst of trouble if we've never been challenged by hardship? God gives us opportunities to apply scriptural truths to the difficulties facing us, and in the process, we find Him faithful. For example, how would Paul ever have known the strength of Christ if he had never been weakened by pain, persecution, and adversity?

Depending on your response, trials can be God's greatest means of building faith or an avenue to discouragement and self-pity. If you'll believe what Scripture says and apply its principles to your situation, your trust in God will grow, and your faith will be strengthened through adversity.
ARE WE LISTENING ?tag:www.allaboutgod.net,2017-07-17:1383940:BlogPost:17374462017-07-17T06:00:50.000Zsandra v villamerohttp://www.allaboutgod.net/profile/sandravvillamero

Bad news, danger, and pain all cause us to look for help. As believers, we dwell with the almighty God, who is able to aid us. At those moments when we are sideswiped by life’s circumstances, we should cry out to Him.

In the Bible, crying out refers to speaking audibly with great emotion concerning an urgent need.
It takes both faith and humility to share our heart’s concern aloud. Crying out, then, is a way for God’s children to express trust in the Lord’s ability and willingness to help. By calling upon Him with such urgency, wealso lay down our pride and any attitude of self-sufficiency.

In Psalm 3:4, for example, David wrote, “I was crying to the Lord with my voice, and He answered from His holy mountain.” When we call aloud for help in Jesus’ name, we invite His power into the situation. Remember that there is strength in just speaking His name.

The fact that this is put in the imperative mode means it is not an option in our life. It is not something we do if we feel like it. It is to be a deliberate response to another person whom we know to be in the family of God, regardless of how we feel toward that person.

Many people struggle at this point. They say, How can you command love? Love is a feeling, and if you don't love somebody, you can't help it. Love is our master; we do not master it. Those who say these things reveal that they have a very serious misconception of love. Unfortunately, we are victims of Hollywood in this respect. We think of love as a feeling we have of affection toward another.

But love, as Jesus speaks of it here, is far different. We can be sure of one thing: He would never command us to do what is impossible for us to do. The secret, of course, is that we are to love, He says, as I have loved you. This kind of love is to arise out of the same kind of relationship that He has with the Father that made it possible for Him to love us. In this same manner, and from the same source, we are to love one another with the same quality of love. He loved us because God is love, and He was indwelt by the Father. He was in the Father, and the Father in Him. As He yielded to that relationship, love flowed out. It could not help it--God is love. Since God is love, as we yield to that relationship to the Son, love flows from us. And it will have the qualities that His love has. He goes on to define for us the aspects of love that mark the quality of His love for us, which we also are to show to one another.

The first is given in the words, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Love lays down its life for another. We all know how fully Jesus Himself exemplified this. His is the greatest love that anyone can demonstrate toward friends. Obviously this means more than simply dying physically for them. If it meant only that, there would be very few of is who could or would ever fulfill this, largely because we would lack the opportunity to do so. And, of course, one could do so only once! But our Lord is commanding us to do this repeatedly. So He means by this that we are to give ourselves up for one another. When you go out of your way to meet a friend's need, when you are willing to spend time with someone who is a Christian just because that one is a Christian--not necessarily because you are drawn to that person--and you are willing to go out of your way and to give yourself up for him or her, you are laying down your life, a part of it at least, for that person. This is what Jesus had in mind.

God is always at work in our lives. Even during seasons of adversity, He wants to accomplish something powerful and good. How should this knowledge affect our response? Today's passage teaches us to choose to rejoice during difficult times. This doesn't mean we have to be happy about the hardship itself. Instead, joy comes from drawing close to the Lord and believing steadfastly that through His redemptive power, He is growing and preparing us. If your usual response to trials is anxiety, anger, or depression, the idea of having joy in the midst of a negative situation might not seem logical. However, if you look beneath the surface, you will discover that this biblical directive makes sense for several reasons.

Often, our natural reaction to pain is to run in the opposite direction, and as fast as possible. However, God wants to teach us endurance--much like a long-distance runner builds up strength in training--so that we can fully benefit from what He is doing in our hearts. He uses trials as a refining fire to purify us like gold and bring us to greater spiritual maturity. As we realize that we are actually being made more complete through our adversities, we'll begin to face challenging times with confidence that He always has our best interest in mind.

While a worldly viewpoint sees hope and joy in the midst of dark times as naïve, a spiritual perspective discerns that we're really progressing on a journey toward life at its fullest.
Since spiritual discernment is the ability to see life from God's perspective, it requires that we know how He thinks and acts. The Bible is His unchanging, infallible revelation of Himself. However, the Lord doesn't simply give us a list of facts about His character and ways. All throughout the pages of Scripture, He illustrates who He is and how He operates.

Although the Bible is ancient, it's not a dead book. It's alive and as fresh as if He were speaking directly to you. The stories may have taken place centuries ago, but the principles and applications are current and relevant. It's our instruction book about how to live. Guidance for decisions and discernment about situations are found from Genesis to Revelation.

God's Word is active and piercing. The words don't simply sit on the page. They penetrate our hearts and judge our thoughts and motives. This convicting quality is why some people don't like to read the Bible. But self-discernment is essential if we don't want to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Some Christians live on a surface level, never understanding why they react to situations the way they do. But if we'll approach the Word of God with an open spirit, it will bring to light our hidden motives and reveal unrecognized sins.

Spiritual discernment involves seeing not just our circumstances but also ourselves from God's perspective. Have you learned to embrace the piercing sword of Scripture, or have you avoided doing so because it makes you uncomfortable? Remember, God's Word cuts only so that it can heal.
HE HEARStag:www.allaboutgod.net,2015-03-29:1383940:BlogPost:16222002015-03-29T10:18:44.000Zsandra v villamerohttp://www.allaboutgod.net/profile/sandravvillamero

Three Hairs
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M, " she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day.
Reflection Questions
List three things in your life that are currently troubling you, then pick one of them. What are 2 ways in which there might be able to positively view the situation you chose?

Obviously this story is trying to show us how we can maintain a positive perspective when bad things happen. If you've already answered reflection question #1, you've found how this is true in your own life as well. What is at least one other important message in this story?

From question #1, take one of the two remaining situations that are troubling you. What are some humorous ways that somebody might be able to look at those situations to help ease a bit of the tension?
I hope you've enjoyed this story! Have a delightful day :)THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF AMBITION.tag:www.allaboutgod.net,2015-01-26:1383940:BlogPost:16088802015-01-26T03:37:15.000Zsandra v villamerohttp://www.allaboutgod.net/profile/sandravvillamero

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all (Mark 9:35).

Our Lord evidently knew what these disciples had been talking about. So when they get into the house at Capernaum , He asks them, What were you discussing on the way?

A simple, normal question--but He is met by embarrassed silence because they had been discussing who was the greatest among them.

Somehow that did not sound right in the presence of Jesus. It would be wonderful if we always had this awareness that what we say and think is being done in His presence.

It would make us feel differently about many things.

We are not told how this argument came about. I suspect that it was occasioned by the events of the transfiguration.

James, Peter, and John had been chosen to go up on the mountain with the Lord and to observe this marvelous sight. Jesus had strictly charged them to tell no one what they had seen.

I believe they kept this charge. But it is quite possible to keep a secret in such a way as to make everybody agog to find out more. When they came back, the others probably asked,What happened up there?

And they said, Oh, we're not permitted to say. One of these days perhaps we might be able to tell you, but you ordinary disciples are excluded from this for now.

And then, of course, the argument readily arose as to who was the greatest.

To answer this, Jesus gave them a marvelously revealing statement. He told them the truth about ambition. Notice He did not rebuke them for wanting to be greatest.

Never does He take them to task because of their desire. God has somehow built into every human heart the desire to succeed at whatever we do.

He did not rebuke them, for this is part of our humanity--to want to succeed. What He did do was to tell them the true way to greatness.

It is not by seeking to be first, He said. It is by a willingness to be last. It is not by getting people to serve you; it is by becoming a servant of all.

There are two kinds of ambition. There is the ambition to be approved and applauded by people, and the ambition to be approved and applauded by God.

There are those who want to gain fame and attention and influence and power. The measurement of the ambition to be great before people is always How many serve me?

How much power do I exercise over others? How wide is the extent of my influence? Who of us has not suffered many times from this desire to be known, to be admired, to be considered great?

But Jesus points out that true greatness is never found there. The measure of true greatness isHow many do I serve? How many can I help? T

his is the mark of greatness in the eyes of God. Christianity is a radical faith! It is exactly the opposite of the natural instincts of the heart.

Our natural inclinations will get us deeper and deeper into trouble.

Though we may achieve a form of greatness in the eyes of people, it will turn into cobwebs and ashes in our hands.

Teach me the meaning of these words in the depths of my heart. Help me to strive for that greatness that will shine throughout eternity.

MULTIPLE SECOND CHANCES
I am a man of second chances. Or, more accurately, I’m a man of many second chances. God has lovingly shown me the fullness of His grace more times than I can remember.

Even though I grew up in a great Christian family, I chose to go my own way until I was in my late twenties. It was then that God gave me a big second chance, revealing Himself to me in a way that only He ...could orchestrate. Finally, at 27, I recognized my sin and repented. The old had gone; I was a new creation!

In late 2009, God gave me another huge second chance at life. Wendy, the kids and I were making our annual Christmas visit to Jamaica, where Wendy’s family lives. Forced to land in a blinding rainstorm, our plane crashed off the runway onto the seashore. One moment everything was as it should be – all orderly and tidy – then literally in the blink of an eye, noise and chaos exploded and, just as suddenly, everything went silent and black.

As the emergency lights flickered to life, I saw my boys climbing out from underneath ceiling panels, wires and luggage. Our daughter’s baby seat was upside down in the foot well. She was frightened but safe, and we carried her as together we scrambled onto the wing toward safety. As we put distance between ourselves and the dangers of the wreckage, God’s miraculous favor was undeniable.

The most vivid thought that flashed through my mind in all of this was the simple, obvious truth that life is brief. God does not promise us tomorrow. As such, we have to make the most of every day. Every decision we make, especially about where we are going to spend eternity, is critical. We must deal with these questions today… now.

If you are in Christ and know Him personally, this truth is for you: the old you has gone and the new has come. You’ve been given the ultimate second chance!

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 that because of this transformation, we are committed to the ministry of reconciliation. We are Christ’s ambassadors and “now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of Salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).

God gave us this ministry of reconciliation, the message that He is reconciling the world to Himself through Christ. He has entrusted this message to us. Let’s make the most of that privilege!

Look at your life right now. Are you a pastor or the head of a nonprofit? Think about your ministry. We all need to identify where and how we are consciously delivering God’s message of reconciliation. He has created us for this very task. As we in faith begin intentionally sharing, we will start to see the miracles that He is doing all around us. We will grow and move forward. Let’s do this today. We have no time to waste!

God was calling His people to return, but they had wandered far from His presence and showed no interest in a life of worship. The economy of their day was thriving and the people had few needs which went unfulfilled; they were content and saw little need for God.

Through Amos, God sent a strong warning. Although He promises to answer all who respond to His call, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Joel 2:32), and He promises to be VERY patient, "not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9), God also warns that the opportunity to hear His Word may not always be available.

Amos 8:11-12
"'The days are coming,' declares the Sovereign Lord, 'when I will send a famine through the land - not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. Men will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.'"

When we hear the Word of God, the door is open and we are in the middle of a God-directed opportunity. At that moment we have the opportunity to respond to the truth and draw closer to our Heavenly Father. But when we reject His Word, we begin to close the door and harden our heart - the opportunity begins to fade: "So, as the Holy Spirit says: 'Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart'" (Hebrews 3:7-8).

We have been blessed to live during this time in history. Yes, we face the unrelenting pressures of an over-indulgent, self-consumed society; but we have also been blessed with a wonderful abundance of the Word of God. In most parts of the world we have the freedom to worship with other believers and full access to truth-filled teaching. In fact, God's Word has become so readily available that many of us take it for granted.

In the midst of our overflowing blessings, we are becoming complacent and no longer treasure His precious gift. But what would happen if His Word was taken away? What would the world be like if no one was allowed to speak or hear the Word of God? What if we searched for His Word and it could not be found?

Our Heavenly Father loves us dearly. He "wants ALL men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4); and He wants those who believe to be "conformed to the likeness of His Son" (Romans 8:29). Our Father continues to call us to know Him with a greater and more intimate love. Let's make the most of this awesome opportunity by receiving the Word of God, in all its forms, with a hungry anticipation, and then by obediently responding to His call. Let's shake off ALL forms of complacency and rejoice that we do not yet live during a famine of hearing.
